With Zhang Guilian's deliberate flattery, Jiang Shengli's matter was completely forgotten in the Jiang family.
After all, life must go on. Although Jiang Shengli is gone, there are still two younger sons at home, and besides, both of them are Jiang Wanmin's biological sons.
On the other hand, Jiang Xile had already left the Jiang family and moved into a guesthouse in full view of everyone, so what would happen to the Jiang family afterward was naturally none of Jiang Xile's business.
The silent night embraces all things. Under the cover of darkness, no one knows what might happen. Only the moon, hanging high in the sky, witnesses it all.
At three in the morning, people are naturally sleeping the most soundly, immersed in sweet dreams, completely unaware of the danger quietly approaching.
In the corridor of the guesthouse, one could occasionally hear snoring coming from different rooms. Before 10 o'clock, the police had already checked the rooms once, and the doors of the guesthouse were all locked.
Jiang Xile stayed in the innermost room on the second floor. The main reason she chose this room was to make it convenient for her to commit crimes at night.
Opening the window, Jiang Xile was only a meter away from the external staircase on the second floor. With his skills, he could easily leave the guesthouse.
Just in case, she locked the door from the inside, moved quietly, and in the moonlight, she was so fast that she was just a black shadow.
She knew the way to the Jiang family's house all too well; taking the main road was no good, and the side roads were safer and more secluded.
In about ten minutes, Jiang Xile arrived outside the Jiang family's courtyard. Finding a suitable spot, she jumped down from the wall.
Like a nimble cat, she moved lightly and made no sound. Standing in the courtyard, she could clearly hear Jiang Wanmin's snoring and even Jiang Ping'an's sleep-talking.
Instead of rushing into the house, she started by looting the storeroom in the yard. Whether it was useful or not, anything belonging to the Jiang family was swept away, leaving not even a single piece of firewood behind.
The warehouse was mostly filled with dried vegetables, coarse grains, potatoes, and some discarded old furniture.
One of the cabinets, Jiang Xile remembers, was used by her mother before she passed away.
Later, when Zhang Guilian entered the house, she disliked the bad luck, so she bought a new wardrobe and moved this one to the storage room.
Opening the wardrobe, there were still a few old clothes that my mother had worn before. After so many years, the fabric was somewhat weathered, as if it would crumble at the slightest touch.
There weren't many clothes left; the good ones had all been taken away and given away by Zhang Guilian. The few pieces that remained were ones that Deng Chunxia used to wear frequently, and they were quite worn.
The wardrobe has a classic design and is made of high-quality wood, which is why Jiang Wanmin couldn't bear to throw it away.
While rummaging through the drawers, Jiang Xile accidentally bumped into something and discovered a hidden compartment suddenly appearing from the bottom of the cabinet.
Jiang Xile stared wide-eyed at the thing that suddenly appeared in front of her: a flat, rectangular wooden box.
She reached into the compartment and took it out. Inside were several letters and a fine jade pendant.
This jade pendant is warm to the touch and has a delicate texture. Although it is not the color of imperial green, it is definitely a rare treasure in later generations.
Seeing this, Jiang Xile had some guesses in her mind, but since they hadn't been confirmed, she didn't want to be too presumptuous.
Picking up the letters inside, five of them were addressed to Chunxia, suggesting they were written to the original owner's mother.
To satisfy her curiosity, Jiang Xile opened all the letters and glanced at their contents by the moonlight.
Sure enough, this was a love letter written to the original owner's mother, and the signature on it was naturally not Jiang Wanmin, but a man named Yan Shu.
From the contents of the letter, Jiang Xile learned that the man's surname was Jiang and his full name was Jiang Yanshu.
Jiang Yanshu is a soldier who was accidentally injured during a mission and was rescued by Deng Chunxia. During his recovery, the two developed feelings for each other and secretly pledged their lives to each other.
Later, after Jiang Yanshu recovered from his injuries and returned to the army, the two maintained contact, or rather, Jiang Yanshu maintained contact with Deng Chunxia unilaterally.
Because of his military post, Jiang Yanshu's whereabouts were unpredictable, making it difficult for him to receive letters from Deng Chunxia. However, Deng Chunxia would receive letters from Jiang Yanshu every few months.
The two maintained this simple contact until one time, after Jiang Yanshu completed a mission, he came to the Jiang family to propose marriage, and the two had a closer relationship.
It was during this encounter that Jiang Xile, the fruit of their love, was born.
What Deng Chunxia didn't expect was that Jiang Yanshu suddenly disappeared from her world after the marriage proposal.
Two months later, when Deng Chunxia discovered she was pregnant, she received a suicide note from Jiang Yanshu's comrade-in-arms.
The letter seemed to still bear Jiang Yanshu's bloodstains, and every word on it expressed apology and regret to Deng Chunxia.
This outcome would be unbearable for anyone, but fortunately, no one outside the Jiang family knows about the affair with Jiang Yanshu.
With the baby in her womb in mind, Deng Chunxia quickly calmed down and then found Jiang Wanmin to take over, so that Jiang Xile could be legally registered.
Among these letters, besides the one Jiang Yanshu wrote to Deng Chunxia, there was also a letter from Deng Chunxia to Jiang Yanshu.
The date above was after Jiang Xile was born, and the words are filled with nostalgia for Jiang Yanshu and love for the new life.
Closing the envelope, Jiang Xile felt relieved. Sure enough, there was a reason why Jiang Wanmin's attitude towards Jiang Xile had changed.
Even so, it was not a reason for him to stand idly by and watch the original owner suffer abuse. Even though Deng Chunxia made him a scapegoat, he still benefited from it.
