Chapter 28 Educated Youth Settlement

Jiang Xile didn't know what day it was, but there were an unusually large number of people at the supply and marketing cooperative. She found a gap and slipped inside.

"Hey, hey, don't push!"

Ouch, my foot!

"Who the hell grabbed me like that?!"

Amidst the chaotic noise, Jiang Xile successfully reached the counter.

The sales clerks all had stern faces, as if this wasn't a place to sell things, but rather a detention center; not a single one of them smiled.

However, in this day and age, you can't expect these government employees to have a good attitude.

There's a brightly lit sign on the wall that constantly reminds you: "Do not assault customers without cause!"

So, if there's a "reason," then you can just get a beating!

Jiang Xile sighed; this wasn't the time to dwell on that.

The sales clerk's eyes caught sight of him, so he immediately straightened up, took out the money and tickets, and said:

"With a red heart for the motherland, hello comrade, I am a newly arrived educated youth. Could you please give me two lunch boxes, a thermos, three boxes of cooking oil, and five catties of cotton?"

"My job is to serve the people, and our pursuit is to satisfy the people."

Hello, fellow educated youth. There is no cotton available right now. If you want to buy some, please come back in two months.

The rest of the items totaled twelve yuan and thirty cents, plus ten industrial coupons.

"Unity can unleash all the power of unity; here's the money, count it carefully."

With a few quick movements, the sales clerk wrote out the order form and then handed Jiang Xile a lunchbox, thermos, and calamari oil in a mesh bag.

"The road to the mountains is long and arduous, but we are not afraid of hardship. Comrade, take your things with you!"

"Like the Foolish Old Man who moved mountains, we forge ahead with determination. Thank you to the sales clerk for your thoughtfulness."

After buying her things, Jiang Xile plunged into the crowd again and squeezed her way out.

When I finally came out of the supply and marketing cooperative, my clothes were wrinkled and my hair was a bit messy.

With a sigh, I realized that this was the only supply and marketing cooperative in the entire Songzhan Commune, and it would probably be just as bustling from now on.

After leaving the supply and marketing cooperative, Jiang Xile carried her things to the state-run restaurant, but she didn't eat there. She just bought two meat buns and left.

There weren't many people in the post office at the moment. I didn't run into Duan Chengyu or Mu Tianye along the way, and I didn't even encounter Liu Hongtao.

It must be said that this world is not very big, but it is not small either.

Even within the same commune or area, there are many intersections and many paths, and each choice represents a different direction.

Therefore, chance encounters are not something that happen casually.

After wandering around for a while, Jiang Xile walked towards the meeting place through a nearby alley.

When they were almost at their destination, they took out the two large packages that had been prepared in their spatial storage.

When Jiang Xile arrived, everyone else had already returned.

"Sorry, we had a lot of stuff, so we're a little late!"

"It's not late, it's not late, we've only been here a few minutes."

Receiving Liu Hongtao's goodwill, Jiang Xile smiled slightly and then stood beside the group.

Seeing that everyone had gotten up, Li Tiejun also stood up from the oxcart, tapped his pipe, and then tucked it into his waistband, saying:

"Now that everyone is here, let's set off. You have a lot of luggage, you can put it all on the oxcart."

However, you'll have to walk back yourselves. After all, this old ox is getting on in years; he's our brigade's treasure, and we can't let him get tired!"

"Yes, Captain, we understand!"

Li Tiejun nodded.

"Let's get started then, don't delay. Keep the horses aligned, don't let them fall and break, I won't be responsible!"

"Yes, yes, we will be careful!"

Duan Chengyu and Mu Tianye flattered Li Tiejun enthusiastically, while the others also moved their luggage onto the oxcart.

After all that trouble, they set off from the commune at nine o'clock in the morning.

Following behind the oxcart, the six men walked on foot toward the direction of the Progressive Brigade.

This walk took more than two hours. I thought I could get a good rest when I arrived at the educated youth settlement, but little did I know that even more chaos was yet to come.

As the old ox's mooing subsided, the oxcart stopped at the entrance of a small courtyard.

Jiang Xile glanced at her watch; it was exactly 11:10.

"Thump, thump, thump!"

Li Tiejun got off the oxcart and began knocking on the door, saying as he knocked:

"This is the educated youth settlement of our brigade. Except for those who are married, all the other educated youth live here."

No sooner had he finished speaking than the door was opened from the inside.

"Squeak!"

The sound of the wooden door creaking was particularly jarring.

"Captain, what brings you here? Is something the matter?"

The person who opened the door was a young man in his twenties with a dark complexion and a mouthful of yellow teeth. There seemed to be some vegetable leaves stuck to his teeth, so he looked like he was eating.

"Zhang Zhiqing! Where's Guo Dongxu? Didn't we tell him that new educated youths are coming today? Didn't he tell you?"

"Oh, that's right. The manager did mention it, but we didn't expect it to be so quick. Please don't stand at the door, come in!"

After Zhang Hao finished speaking, he looked at Jiang Xile and the others and said:

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention just now. Please come in, comrades!"

The door was wide open, and Zhang Hao stood to one side.

Hearing the commotion, the people eating inside came out, each still holding unfinished pancakes in their hands.
