Chapter 160: The Desolation of the Past
This was the first time Ye Fei had ever heard the Seventh Elder speak in this tone.
She hesitated for a few seconds outside the door before choosing to enter the main hall. The Seventh Elder sat in the main seat. Usually, she would sit casually with her legs crossed, but today she leaned back in her chair with her arms crossed, showing no sign of laziness. Her face was so gloomy that it looked like it could drip water.
The Grand Elder sat opposite her, his expression equally solemn, and the two seemed to be arguing about something.
Seeing Ye Fei walk in, the Seventh Elder's gloomy expression softened: "Little Fei'er, you've come."
The First Elder's hand, resting on the armrest of his seat, clenched slightly. He saw Ye Fei and didn't continue speaking, only reminding her, "Seventh Brother, this matter is of great importance. Do not act rashly."
The Seventh Elder sneered: "I know what you're worried about, but the human and demon races have always kept to themselves. If the demons dare to cross the line, they are breaking the agreement made a hundred years ago!"
"Now do you see clearly? The demons are a bunch of cold-blooded, brutal, and untrustworthy bastards!"
Ye Fei stood silently by the door, not saying a word, just listening to the argument between the two elders.
The First Elder frowned, clearly not wanting Ye Fei to know too much about what was going on behind the scenes: "Alright, Cheng Lan, let's leave it at that for now."
He stood up, flicked his sleeves, and walked out of the Heavenly Mystery Pavilion.
The atmosphere inside the main pavilion gradually returned to silence. Ye Fei poured a cup of floral tea and handed it to her, saying, "Sister, calm down."
The Seventh Elder took the teacup, his anger fading: "My adopted sister is much more obedient and sensible. My good-for-nothing disciple, who knows where he's gone off to now!"
Ye Fei pursed her lips and sat down next to the Seventh Elder, saying softly, "Sister, were you and the First Elder talking about the Demon Clan just now?"
“Jing Shen encountered the demons in Guiyuan City last night.” The Seventh Elder did not hide anything. She took a sip of her flower tea and continued, “The demons slaughtered innocent people and then fled to the nearby forest.”
Ye Fei remained silent; Mu Jingshen had indeed kept it a secret for her.
But recalling the Seventh Elder's chilling tone, her heart tightened.
After a while, Ye Fei asked again, "Sister, you sounded like you also hated the demons just now, why?"
The Seventh Elder was surprised by Ye Fei's question. Her fingers traced the rim of the teacup, and her gaze drifted towards the main pavilion's entrance.
Just as Ye Fei thought the Seventh Elder wasn't going to answer her question, the girl chuckled softly, "Also? Little Fei'er, why did you use that word?"
Ye Fei replied, "I heard about Mu Jingshen from Rong Yu."
"I see." The Seventh Elder put down his teacup, gently placed his hand on the red jade bracelet on his wrist, and a trace of nostalgia appeared in his eyes. "The Ten Thousand Swords Sect is a well-known righteous sect in the human realm. Its first rule is 'Evil shall be punished'."
"Jing Shen joined the Ten Thousand Swords Sect because his parents were killed by the demons. He wanted to use his sword to cut down all the evil in the world... My lover was also killed by the demons, but I can't remember where to go after avenging my lover."
Ye Fei was surprised and quickly apologized, "Sister, I'm sorry, I didn't know you..."
"It's alright, this happened many years ago."
The Seventh Elder smiled, raised her head and closed her eyes: "Just when I was aimlessly wandering, it was Zhu Ying who invited me to become an elder at Lingfeng Academy... From then on, I stayed at the academy for nearly a hundred years under the name of the Seventh Elder."
Ye Fei raised an eyebrow: "That Shadow Chasing Steward from the Wugui Pavilion?"
“Yes, Little Fei’er, you would never guess that Zhu Ying was once an elder of Lingfeng Academy.” The Seventh Elder winked at her playfully. “He used to be the Sixth Elder. After I became the Seventh Elder, he left the academy and went to Wugui Pavilion to work as a steward.”
