Chapter 186 The Unknown Side

Chapter 186: The Unknown Other Side

Upon hearing that familiar name, Huang Rongyu's eyes finally showed a hint of emotion.

"So it really was for her!" The Empress keenly noticed the emotional fluctuations in his eyes and was furious. "That Ye Fei is nothing but a good-for-nothing who can't even gather spiritual energy. How could she possibly enter my Lingyun royal family!"

"A piece of trash who can't even gather spiritual energy?" Huang Rongyu raised a handsome eyebrow, then suddenly realized something, his sharp gaze sweeping over Nan Yantingrong: "Are you slandering Ye Fei?"

Nan Yan heard Rong nervously twisting her fingers. Huang Rongyu and the Empress both had their eyes on her, and she felt a sense of crisis, as if she were being pricked by needles. She paused, then smiled bitterly and said, "...I didn't slander her. It's true that she couldn't gather spiritual energy before."

"That was the Ye Fei of the past, not the Ye Fei of today."

Huang Rongyu said coldly, then turned to look at the Empress: "I want to dissolve the engagement. It has nothing to do with Ye Fei. I just don't like Nan Yan Tingrong and hope that Father Emperor will take back Chengming—that's all."

Every cold word was like a sharp blade cutting wounds into Nan Yan Ting Rong's heart, causing her pain so intense that she was almost numb.

Her eyes reddened as she looked at him in disbelief: "Were all those wonderful years we spent together just a mirage? You're lying to me... You must be lying to me!"

"You have feelings for me, don't you?"

Nan Yan listened as Rong pleaded, hoping to see even the slightest hint of reluctance in Huang Rongyu's eyes, but the boy's dark eyes remained as still as a deep pool, cold and cruel.

She covered her face and ran out of Yingfeng Pavilion, sobbing.

"Tingrong! Tingrong!" The Empress tried to get up and pull Nan Yan Tingrong away, but she ran too fast and had to give up.

The scene was quiet and desolate. The Empress raised her hand and waved it gently, and the palace maids took their leave. In a short while, only Huang Rongyu and the Empress remained in Yingfeng Pavilion.

They were opposites, one standing with an air of elegance, the other seated on a phoenix chair, languid and carefree.

"Huang Rongyu, who gave you the audacity to ask the Emperor to retract his decree?" The Empress sneered, resting her chin on her hand. "Do you think that just because you are favored by the Emperor, you can do whatever you want?"

Huang Rongyu stared indifferently at the undisguised disgust on the Empress's face, and curled his lips into a half-smile: "Finally, you're not pretending anymore?"

"It's just the two of us here, there's no need to pretend in front of you." The Empress's voice was as sharp as a needle. "If I had known you had this talent, I should have strangled you fifteen years ago!"

"Unfortunately, it's too late." A glint of cold light flashed in Huang Rongyu's eyes. Although he was smiling, his smile was particularly ruthless: "Your Majesty, you should know very well who it is because you are still sitting in this position."

“If it weren’t for my mother, you would be nothing more than a lowly palace maid. Not to mention Yingfeng Pavilion, even the gates of the royal palace would be a place you could never set foot in your life.”

"The most valuable quality in a person is self-awareness. Some grudges are not that I will not avenge them, but that the time has not yet come."

Huang Rongyu strode gracefully to the Empress, her long, slender hand resting on the armrest of the phoenix chair. She looked down at the Empress with disdain: "As long as I, Huang Rongyu, am alive, Huang Tianqi will forever be a pitiful crown prince suppressed by me, in terms of both cultivation and status..."

The boy's clear and melodious voice floated lightly into the Empress's ears, and his oppressive gaze made her break out in a cold sweat.

Seeing that the woman was intimidated by him, Huang Rongyu was satisfied. He slowly straightened up and bowed to her with a smile: "Your Majesty, there's no need to worry about the marriage. I have other matters to attend to, so I'll take my leave."
