Chapter 653: Perpetual Interests
Having been rejected by the dean twice in a row, the Second Elder of the Ming Clan's expression had long since turned sour.
But given the presence of so many people, he couldn't afford to make a scene, so he could only put on a forced smile and say, "Heh... it seems this kid is destined to have no chance with our Ming clan."
The dean saw a dark glint in the eyes of the Second Elder of the Ming Clan, paused for a moment, and finally sighed.
He bowed again: "Second Elder of the Ming Clan, if you really value Xiao Li's talent, why not wait until he finishes his training and then test whether he is willing to join the Ming Clan?"
“If Xiao Li is willing, I, as the dean, will naturally be happy for him to join such a powerful force as a hidden family.”
"But if he is unwilling... a forced marriage will not be happy, so I hope the Second Elder of the Ming Clan can grant his request."
Upon hearing the dean's words, the Second Elder of the Ming Clan finally dropped his displeasure.
The dean of Lingfeng Academy had rejected him twice earlier, but now he had come up with a good excuse, allowing both sides to gracefully back down.
Is it because he is so shrewd and adept at handling people—or is it because Lingfeng Academy, one of the three major higher academies on the Eastern Continent, is afraid of the power of a hidden family?
But whatever the reason, if he doesn't agree now, it will only cause others to gossip behind his back.
Nothing is more important than the reputation of the Ming clan.
Thoughts flashed through his mind, and the Second Elder of the Ming Clan smiled and said, "Dean, you are right. Our Ming Clan certainly hopes to recruit more outstanding talents like Xiao Li, but his wishes are more important. I will respect his decision."
The dean narrowed his long, narrow eyes and smiled, "That's absolutely right."
After exchanging pleasantries, the dean decided to go outside the Divine Wind Hall for some fresh air.
Time flows differently within the Eight Desolate Divine Realm than outside. The younger generation may seem to have survived for many days in the various secret realms, but only an hour has passed in the outside world.
The dean stepped out of the Divine Wind Hall, gazed at the scenery outside, and took a deep breath.
Just then, footsteps sounded behind them. The dean glanced to the side and saw a figure dressed in white, ethereal and otherworldly.
He is the eldest elder of the Jing clan.
The dean bowed to the woman: "So you are Elder Jing of the Jing Clan."
The Grand Elder of the Jing Clan smiled and waved to the Dean: "I just wanted to give you a word of advice."
"A warning?" The dean asked, puzzled. "What does the Grand Elder of the Jing Clan want to warn me about?"
“I actually heard what the Second Elder of the Ming Clan said to you just now.” The First Elder of the Jing Clan looked directly at him and said slowly, “He said he would respect all decisions… but the truth is quite the opposite.”
"The Ming clan has adopted a secret approach to deal with the younger generation who are unwilling to join the clan."
The dean was somewhat surprised, but didn't show any emotion on his face: "What do you mean by that?"
The Grand Elder of the Jing Clan glanced at him, his jade-like fingers lightly tapping a flute at his waist: "Dean, you must understand what I mean."
"Why did the Grand Elder of the Jing Clan tell me this matter alone?" the Dean asked directly. "Aren't the three reclusive families always united and amicable, sharing a common enemy?"
"Unity and harmony? Shared hatred of the enemy?"
The Grand Elder of the Mirror Clan took out the flute and examined it closely in his hands, murmuring softly, "There are no eternal friends, only eternal interests. Ever since the divine artifact appeared in the Eight Desolate Divine Realm, conflict has arisen between the three clans..."
