Early the next morning, Su Aimin dug Su Qingyun out of bed.
"Dad, please let me sleep a little longer." Su Qingyun tried hard to open his eyes. It was pitch black outside. What time was it?
"Didn't you say you had to go to the county with me? If you don't get up now, you will miss the bus." Su Aimin urged.
"Right away, right away."
She resigned herself to her fate and got up, putting on a blue shirt with small flowers and a pair of simple black pants.
"You're so old, but you still need your mother to braid your hair. I think you're getting younger and younger." Qin Ying fiddled with her hair skillfully, with a scolding look on her face but a smile in her eyes.
"I don't know how to braid." Su Qingyun pouted, enjoying her mother's craftsmanship with peace of mind. The original owner had thick and long hair. She felt it was okay to let her hair down a few days ago, but she couldn't let her hair down when she went into the city today, right?
In order to facilitate her experiments, she basically kept her hair short. She really couldn't handle the various braids that were popular at that time. There was either an extra strand here or there. In less than ten minutes, she gave up and asked her mother for help.
"Okay! Our Yunyun is so beautiful!" Qin Ying said with satisfaction.
Su Qingyun looked in the mirror and nodded with satisfaction. Not bad, this little face is so tender that it seems like water can be squeezed out of it.
Su Aimin urged from the side: "We really have to go, otherwise we will miss the bus."
"Let's go, Dad." Su Qingyun hurriedly followed.
The figures of the father and daughter disappeared in a hurry. Zhang Xinlan, who got up early to make a fire and cook, curled her lips. These two, the big one and the small one, are not doing their job!
"Yunyun, can you still walk? If not, let's take a rest." Su Aimin looked at his daughter with concern.
"Let's take a break." Su Qingyun said with a bitter face, sitting down on a tree stump by the roadside.
No wonder her father said they would miss the bus. To get from Luoshui Village to the county town, they could only walk to the town and then take a bus to the county. It was more than ten miles to the town. Su Qingyun was so weak that she couldn't walk that far. She now felt that blisters were formed on her feet.
I don’t know how long I walked, but I finally arrived at the bus stop. It’s called a station, but it’s actually just a sign on the side of the road. You can’t see it unless you look carefully.
There were not many people waiting for the bus. Many farmers had never even been to the county town in their entire lives and had always stayed in the place where they were born and raised.
"Yunyun, the car is here. Be careful and follow dad up." Su Aimin called out when he saw the car from a distance.
Su Qingyun followed him into the car. Su Aimin took out the banknotes from his pocket, paid the fare, and took her to find a seat.
In addition to people, there were chickens, ducks, geese and everything else in the car. The sounds of "cluck" and "quack" were endless, mixed with the stench that rushed into his nose. There were still two hours to reach the county, so Su Qingyun could only grit his teeth and endure it.
The car had to stop for ten minutes and hadn't started yet. Su Qingyun closed his eyes and tried to ignore his surroundings.
"Sister, your chickens look so well-fed." It was her father's voice.
Su Qingyun opened his eyes and watched his father chatting with an older woman wearing a straw hat. She was holding a hen tied with straw in her hand. Among a pile of wilted chickens, the hen looked particularly plump.
"Of course. The chickens in my family are raised by eating insects. We feed them very carefully. They can lay at least two eggs a day." The eldest sister looked proud.
"Two eggs?!" Su Aimin's eyes widened and he exclaimed, "Why don't you raise such a good laying hen?"
Although large-scale free trade is not allowed now, no one cares about secretly selling one or two chickens.
The eldest sister's face was filled with visible reluctance. "My daughter-in-law has given birth and has no milk. I'm planning to sell the chicken to buy her some... Oh, right, milk powder. Who else would be willing to sell it?"
"That's true." Su Aimin nodded in agreement.
He smiled and said, "Well, sister, you want to sell this chicken anyway, can you sell it to me?"
"You?" The eldest sister looked at him suspiciously.
"Yes." Su Aimin nodded confidently, pointing at Su Qingyun and introducing her, "This is my daughter. She just fell seriously ill a while ago. I was thinking of buying her an old hen and stewing it for her to nourish her body."
"My dear, you bought a chicken specifically for your daughter to nourish her body?" The eldest sister was shocked and repeated his words again. She looked at Su Qingyun's pale face and believed it a little.
Su Qingyun: ...
What kind of body-building is this? Her father is using her as a shield.
"Then...how much can you offer?" the eldest sister asked hesitantly, "I won't sell it for less."
"Look at you saying that, big sister, don't worry, I will never cheat you."
Su Aimin looked at the chicken carefully, thought for a moment and said, "Well, sister, the price of a chicken is about three dollars and a half now. I see that you raise chickens well, so I'll give you four dollars. You won't lose anything."
"Four yuan?" The older sister said with a dissatisfied look, "I'll go to the county and ask around. I'm sure I can get a higher price."
"Sister, that's not the way to compare," Su Aimin explained slowly. "If you go to the county, first of all, asking around is very time-consuming. Secondly, people in the county have many choices and don't necessarily have to pay a high price for your chickens."
Su Aimin pointed to a pile of chickens and ducks around him, and the eldest sister fell silent.
"Also, big sister, the round-trip fare to the county is almost three cents. The bus hasn't left yet, so you can still get a refund. If you sell me this chicken, won't that save you money?"
The eldest sister's eyes lit up. Yes, how could she forget about this!
"Brother, why don't you take a look at my chickens? They're no worse than hers. At worst, I can just give them a lower price." A black man who had been listening for a while couldn't help but say.
"That won't work! You agreed to buy mine, so you can buy mine." The elder sister was anxious. How could someone steal the money she had earned?
She hurriedly stuffed the chicken into Su Aimin's hands.
