When the father and daughter walked to the department store, Su Qingyun felt like her feet were not her own.
The first floor of the department store sells daily necessities. These days, in addition to money, you also need various tickets to buy things. Even with these, the supply still cannot meet the demand. Buying something is like fighting a war.
"Yunyun, get ready, Dad will take you in." Su Aimin rubbed his hands, eager to try.
"Or... let's just forget it, Dad." Seeing this terrifying crowd, Su Qingyun swallowed his saliva and felt like backing out.
"Now that we're here, how can we not go?"
Well, these are the four words that people fear the most.
Before she could charge into battle with her father, Su Qingyun was hit hard by someone and her shoulder hurt.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, little girl, are you okay?" The person who bumped into her was an old woman wearing a patched coarse linen shirt. Her wrinkled face was full of apology. She was holding a child in her arms with her eyes closed, perhaps she was asleep.
"It's okay." Su Qingyun patted his shoulders without being angry.
Su Aimin frowned, looked at the child, but still said nothing.
"Thank you!" The old lady hurried away holding the child, looking in the direction of leaving the city.
The girl was bumped, and Su Aimin didn't want to take her to the crowd anymore. "Yunyun, let's go to the second floor. There are cloths on the second floor. Let's see if there are any patterns you like."
He was about to take Su Qingyun to the second floor when Su Qingyun suddenly stopped.
Fabric? Pattern? Su Qingyun knew something was wrong.
"Dad, the one who bumped into me just now was a beggar!" Su Qingyun screamed.
"What?" Su Aimin didn't react. "What do you mean by 'beating flowers'?"
"The old woman who bumped into me just now was wearing patched clothes, but the child she was holding was covered in fine silk. The child was still breastfeeding, and she was just wrapped up and carried out of the house. This means her home is not far away. But the old woman obviously doesn't speak from here, and she was walking out of the city!"
The more Su Qingyun spoke, the more she felt something was wrong, and her face became anxious. "Also, just now I saw the child sleeping with a slightly red face. I thought it was from the sun, but now it seems that she might have been drugged, right?"
Seeing that she spoke so conscientiously, Su Aimin's face turned serious. Kidnapping a child is not a trivial matter. If not handled properly, a family can be ruined.
"Let's go and follow them and see." He hesitated for a moment, then said, it is better to believe it than not to believe it.
The father and daughter chased in the direction the old lady left.
Fortunately, the old lady was probably old and was holding a child, so she didn't walk far. The father and daughter followed closely behind her and discussed countermeasures.
They couldn't just go up and say the child was abducted, could they? It would be terrible if they got bitten back.
The old woman kept walking forward, then suddenly stopped.
The father and daughter looked at each other. Isn't this where they wait for the bus? This bus will pass through several villages, but where is her destination?
"Let's go, get on the bus, and catch the car too." Su Aimin made a prompt decision.
The two walked forward and stood at the waiting area. The old lady raised her eyes and looked at them warily.
Su Qingyun moved the corners of her mouth twice, and raised an extremely brilliant smile, "Grandma, you are waiting for the bus too, what a coincidence."
The old lady squinted her eyes and looked at her, recognizing her. "It's you, little girl. Who is this?" It was nothing for a little girl, but she became wary of the grown man.
"This is my dad."
"Oh, aren't you shopping in the department store?" The old lady looked at their empty hands.
"There are too many people. I can't squeeze in, so I won't buy anything."
Su Aimin smiled. He looked upright and his smile was honest, which made it easy for people to let down their guard. The old lady visibly relaxed a little. In order to avoid her suspicion, the father and daughter stopped talking.
After a while, the tattered bus stopped at the platform, and the driver turned off the engine and waited for people as usual.
Su Qingyun and the other man deliberately got on the bus after her, and waited until the old lady sat down before looking for a seat as if nothing had happened.
The bus had two rows of seats on each side, with an aisle in the middle. The father and daughter sat on the right side of the old lady across the aisle.
There weren't many people on the bus. Su Aimin looked around, stood up, walked to the driver's side, and took out a cigarette from his pocket.
"Old Chang, would you like a shot?"
The driver always glanced at him and waved his hand, "I'm smoking my pipe. You can't handle this foreign stuff."
"Try it, this is a good product from Haishi." Su Aimin still stretched out his hand, "Let's go downstairs and smoke it. My daughter is sick and can't stand the smell of smoke."
Lao Chang couldn't refuse, so he had to follow Su Aimin out of the car.
Through the car window, Su Qingyun could see the conversation between her father and the driver. Before they could say a few words, the driver quickly looked towards the car. She understood that her father was telling the driver their guess.
After a while, the two men got into the car as usual.
There were more and more people on the bus, and quite a few of them were carrying chickens and ducks, and the bus started to get noisy again.
Perhaps it was too noisy. Su Qingyun frowned as he looked at the child in the old lady's arms. The child woke up, waving his little hands in the air, pouting, and crying loudly.
As soon as he cried, the chickens and ducks clucked even louder as if they were competing with each other, and many people looked over with frowns.
"Auntie, why is your child crying all the time? Is he hungry or has he peed?" An uncle sitting in the front turned around.
"It's okay, I can just comfort you." The old lady rocked the child gently.
But perhaps it was not the familiar breath of the child, he cried even louder.
"No, Auntie, you have to take a look. If the child has peed or is hungry, coaxing him like this won't help." Another kind-hearted auntie also spoke up. She was a little puzzled. "Why did you take the child on such a long car ride without anything? A child this young will be hungry in fits and starts. He can't survive without food."
