Chapter 25 Enlistment Notice

As soon as her eldest brother Su Congjun left, Su Qingyun's school start date was approaching. Just a few days before she was about to go to school, the enlistment notice of her second brother Su Congwen arrived.

Captain Qin Youfu arrived at the Su family's house in high spirits. The gate was open, so he went straight in and called out in the courtyard, "Auntie, uncle, are you there?"

"I'm here, Youfu." Wu Guixiang heard the voice and came out immediately.

Thanks to the tractor improved by Su Qingyun, the corn in Luoshui Village was harvested first and the busy farming season ended first. In recent days, everyone has been idle at home.

"What's wrong, Youfu?"

Qin Youfu shook the list in his hand and handed it to Wu Guixiang, "The enlistment notice for your family member Congwen has been mailed to the brigade. I came to inform you."

No matter which era, it is absolutely a glorious thing for a family to have a soldier. In this era, the respect for soldiers is even higher. This time, only Su Congwen from Luoshui Village was selected to join the army, and Qin Youfu was naturally proud of it.

"So soon?" Wu Guixiang was surprised. When did this kid Congwen sign up? The notice has already arrived.

She quickly shouted into the house, "Second brother! Second brother's wife! Congwen! Come out quickly!"

Zhang Xinlan, who was resting in bed, heard her mother-in-law's loud voice and reluctantly stood up. "What are you yelling about?"

"I told you to get up, why are you talking so much?" Su Aidang said impatiently, put on his clothes, lifted the curtain and went out.

Su Congwen ran out the door like a gust of wind, "Grandma, has my enlistment notice arrived?"

His fair face flushed with excitement, full of nervousness and anticipation.

Qin Youfu smiled and pointed at what Wu Guixiang was holding. "Look, there it is."

Wu Guixiang was still reading word by word when Su Congwen snatched it away and said, "Grandma, let me see it first."

"You kid!" Wu Guixiang said unhappily, and went in to call Su Dalin to cheer him up.

What? Enlistment notice? Zhang Xinlan sat up abruptly upon hearing these words and quickly got out of bed.

"Why so soon?" She couldn't believe it. Why did Congwen leave like that?

"Is second brother leaving?" Su Aimin's family came out after hearing the noise, and Su Qingyun asked.

"They told me to pack my things and get ready. A military vehicle will come to pick me up around the afternoon of the 28th, which is the afternoon of the day after tomorrow."

Su Congwen was so excited that his hands were shaking. He had always been an introverted person and rarely showed his emotions so much. He was obviously very happy.

"The day after tomorrow?!" Zhang Xinlan exclaimed, "Isn't this too soon?"

Su Dalin had just come out of the house and heard this and said, "Military orders are as heavy as a mountain. Even if we have to set out immediately, we must obey them. In the past, when we marched and fought, we would just leave at a moment's notice without even having the chance to prepare."

He looked at Su Congwen, smiled with satisfaction, and patted him on the shoulder, "Congwen, well done!" Their Su family finally had a soldier!

"Second brother, that's awesome!" Su Congwu was also happy for him.

Su Qingyun smiled and congratulated him, "Congratulations, second brother, you got what you wanted."

Su Congwen scratched his head, a little embarrassed, "Thank you, Yunyun."

Qin Youfu said, "Okay, you guys enjoy yourself first, I'll be leaving first."

"Thank you, uncle." Su Congwen said gratefully.

The whole family was very happy, except Zhang Xinlan, who asked Su Congwen with a serious face, "Did the higher-ups tell us which unit we're going to?"

"No." Su Congwen shook his head and said, "The higher-ups didn't tell me. I guess I won't know until later. It doesn't matter, mother. I'll write to you as soon as I get to the army."

"I don't care if you write back!" Zhang Xinlan glared at him.

Su Aidang said cheerfully, "If your mother doesn't want it, you write it for your father."

"Okay." Su Congwen nodded readily. It was the same whether he wrote to his mother or his father.

"You two, father and son, are really in the same group!" Zhang Xinlan gritted her teeth.

Things had come to this point, and no matter how unwilling she was, there was nothing she could do. Zhang Xinlan felt sorry for her son and quickly started packing his things.

"Everything you need to eat, wear and use must be brought with you." Zhang Xinlan muttered to herself as she busied herself inside and outside the house.

"Don't be so anxious." Su Aidang held her back. "They have everything in the army, and they still need food. Besides, everyone in the army wears uniforms. What's the point of packing clothes? You might as well bring an extra thick blanket in case the winter there is cold."

"Yes, yes, bedding." Zhang Xinlan was reminded and ran away like a gust of wind again.

In the end, although the luggage was repeatedly streamlined, two large bags were still packed out. Now, we are just waiting for the military vehicle to pick us up tomorrow.

At night, Zhang Xinlan lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. Su Aidang's original sleepiness was destroyed by her, "What are you doing here at this hour?"

"Your son is about to leave, and you can still sleep!" Zhang Xinlan pinched him angrily. She married him because she wanted him to be honest, but now it seems that he is heartless.

"Congwen is going to join the army, not to any dangerous place. Why do you worry so much?" Su Aidang turned over and said.

"Okay, go to sleep and stop thinking about it." Su Aidang's tone was already beginning to sound confused.

Zhang Xinlan glared at his back. "You didn't give birth to this child, so of course you don't worry about it! We don't know when Congwen will be back after he left."

Whenever she thought about Congwen leaving home soon and might not come back for one or two years, her heart felt as if it was being tightened. How could she possibly sleep?

Outside the house, Su Qingyun, who was passing by their house on her way to the toilet, heard the conversation between the two. She thought about it, went back to her room, put on her clothes, and knocked on the door of her parents' room.
