"Auntie Wu, there's a letter for you! It's from the capital!"
At noon, the postman rode his bicycle to Luoshui Village. He started shouting to greet people before he even reached the door of the Su family. In the whole area, his favorite thing was to deliver letters to the Su family. After all, the Su family had many glorious deeds. He felt like he had benefited from it by helping to deliver letters and parcels.
“Here I come!”
When Wu Guixiang heard the sound, she ran out quickly. She had been thinking about the letter from the capital all day long. She looked towards the village entrance eight hundred times a day, and her eyes were almost worn out.
She took the letter from the postman with a happy face and said, "Thank you."
"You're welcome." The postman smiled. "Oh, and here's the remittance slip."
"Remittance slip?" Wu Guixiang was stunned and took it with confusion. Did the third brother send her money?
Seeing the amount on the remittance slip, Wu Guixiang was shocked. What were the third brother and his friends planning to do with so much money? Were they giving her the pension money and not returning it?
The postman left, and Wu Guixiang walked back inside, muttering, "I really have so much money I don't know where to spend it, and I'm sending it home. But what in Beijing doesn't cost money? I really don't know what to do!"
Although his tone was complaining, he couldn't control the upward curve of his mouth.
Inside the house, the others were eating. When they saw Wu Guixiang come in, they all asked curiously, "Did the third brother and the others send another letter? What did they say?"
"I haven't read it yet." Wu Guixiang was interrupted by the remittance slip and remembered that she hadn't read the letter yet. She unfolded the letter paper and read it quickly.
After reading it, she smiled. "The letter says that Aying and Yunyun have officially started classes for several days. The third child has found a leisurely job, Yunyun lives on campus, and Aying goes home after class. They're all doing well."
"That's the capital, how could it be good?" Zhang Xinlan looked fascinated.
She didn't go to the capital, but she helped a lot in sending things to the capital. In order to complete the amount of dried bamboo shoots that her mother-in-law wanted to send out, she and her sister-in-law were so tired that their waists were almost broken.
Wu Guixiang glanced at her and continued what she hadn't finished, "Also, the third brother and his family sent money home."
What? Zhang Xinlan instantly perked up, and the pain in her waist was gone.
"The third brother and his family just went to Beijing and rented a house. They need money for many things. How can they send money home?" Li Xiu Lian said worriedly.
"Who says not?" Wu Guixiang raised the remittance slip in her hand, "But the third brother is thinking about us. Even though that kid is cunning, I, Wu Guixiang's son, am not the kind of person who forgets his roots once he goes out."
"The third brother and his family no longer live at home, so they have no share in the family expenses. Although they send some food, it's nothing compared to what we eat and drink every day at home. But even so, they still send money back. The amount is not important, but you must all remember these kindnesses."
What Wu Guixiang feared most was that the third brother's family would move to the capital and be separated from her family. She was not worried that the third brother's family would live well while they were still staying in the countryside. What she feared was that there would be a gap between the brothers and they would become more and more unfamiliar with each other, so she would scold her family every few days.
"Of course, Mom, we all know what kind of person the third brother is." Su Aiguo said seriously.
The third brother has been different from him and Ai Dang since he was a child. He is smart and capable. Although he is sometimes a little cunning, he is very good to his family. Their family has now gone to the capital and is living a good life. Although he is envious, he is not jealous and can only feel happy for him.
Besides, life in the big city is not necessarily better than here. Every aspect of life requires money, so it’s not that easy.
"I understand too." Su Aidang also said.
Li Xiu Lian and Zhang Xin Lan, the two daughters-in-law, did not say anything. Their husbands had already expressed their opinions, so there was no need for them to say more.
"I'm glad you understand." Wu Guixiang nodded with satisfaction.
After lunch, the family went back to their rooms to rest. They had to get enough rest as they still had to work in the afternoon. They were very busy with spring plowing recently.
"Old Lin," Wu Guixiang said to Su Dalin, sitting cross-legged on the bed, "I've decided. After we finish our work in the fields, we'll go to the capital and experience the life of a city dweller."
"Okay, let's go if you say so." Su Dalin had no objection.
Moreover, how could he not know that this old woman of his didn't want to live the life of a city dweller, but just missed the third brother's family. Of course, mainly missed that.
"I've never been to such a faraway place before." Wu Guixiang thought about it and felt unusually nervous. She tilted her head to look at her husband, who had already closed his eyes, and wondered, "Aren't you nervous?"
"Why are you so nervous?" Su Dalin said without even opening his eyes. "People in big cities also have two eyes, a nose, and a mouth. There's nothing different."
"Is this a human being?" Wu Guixiang said unhappily.
"Okay, forget it. We still have work to do this afternoon." Su Dalin was the type of person who remained calm even if the sky fell. "We'll talk about it later."
"but……"
Wu Guixiang looked at Su Dalin, who started snoring as soon as he finished speaking, and was speechless.
——————
Time passed slowly like water. Su Qingyun's family's life in Beijing was back on track. She lived on campus during the week and went home on weekends, but she would occasionally go home for dinner. Qin Ying would go home as long as she didn't have classes, and only occasionally, when she didn't have enough time, would she take a nap at school.
Su Aimin was not idle either. He was going to night school. Although he was smart, he had not been to school much, so it was a bit difficult for him to learn all of a sudden. But he had a spirit of not admitting defeat and did not want to be worse than others. It was like this when he was doing business, and it was also like this when he was studying. For a moment, he seemed to be more hardworking than Su Qingyun and Qin Ying, the two college students.
