Su Qingyun enjoyed the meal very much, but Su Congjun was in a daze and out of his mind.
After dinner, they chatted for a while. Su Qingyun looked at the time and whispered to Su Congjun, "Brother, I have an appointment with my classmates to go to the library. I'll be leaving first."
Su Congjun was a little worried, "Are you going alone? How about I accompany you?"
"No need, I'm not a child anymore." Su Qingyun shook her head and said, "The county library is not far away, I can do it alone, you should spend more time with Sister Sisi." She squinted her eyes with a cunning look on her face.
Su Congjun hesitated. He did have something else to say. "Okay, be careful and go to the station according to the time. We should go home early. My family must be waiting anxiously."
"Okay." After Su Qingyun said that, he said goodbye to the three people from the Wen family and left.
The county library is just a two-story building. It looks gray from the outside and not many people come. It is rather deserted. Su Qingyun saw Ji Yue standing at the door of the library from a distance. He was wearing a white knitted sweater, with an upright posture and a camel-colored scarf in his hand. His whole body added a touch of bright color to the gray building behind him. He is indeed a beautiful boy, Su Qingyun exclaimed.
"Sorry, I'm late. Are you waiting impatiently?" Su Qingyun apologized.
"No." Ji Yue's expression was indifferent. "Let's go in."
Su Qingyun followed his footsteps and asked, "Do you come here often?" He seemed familiar with the place.
"Yeah, I come here occasionally." Ji Yue said, "There are really too few books to read in town, and there are a little more here."
Su Qingyun nodded and looked around. There were rows of not very high wooden bookshelves standing there. The books on them were both new and old, with the old ones accounting for the larger proportion. Many books even had no covers. It seemed that the library had not had any new books in a long time.
There was only an old man sitting at the reading desk on the first floor. Seeing that there were only two people coming, his gray eyes brightened.
He smiled and greeted, "Ayue, are you here?"
Su Qingyun was a little impressed by Ji Yue. How come people knew him everywhere? Even at the recycling station and the library.
"Well, Mr. Chu, it's been a while since you've been here." Ji Yue handed over his library card and asked Su Qingyun, "You don't have a library card, do you want to apply for one?"
"Go ahead and do one, little girl. It's a good thing to read more books." The old man looked expectantly.
"Okay." Su Qingyun nodded. This was what she wanted to do anyway.
"It costs 50 cents to get a library card, and there's also a two-dollar deposit, which is refunded when you return the card."
Su Qingyun handed over the money, and the old man took out a pen and wrote the borrower's name and date on a rectangular piece of paper, then stamped it with a bright red seal, and finally found a plastic shell to cover it. The simple library card was ready.
Su Qingyun took a look. The ink was not yet completely dry. The three words "Su Qingyun" were written with great vigor and style. From these words, it can be seen that the old man should be more than just an ordinary librarian.
The two walked to the bookshelf inside, and Ji Yue whispered: "Mr. Chu used to be a university professor in Beijing."
"What? How could this be?" Su Qingyun looked surprised. How could a university professor in Beijing end up being a librarian in the county?
"Is it strange?" Ji Yue's eyes were cold. "In this society where people are just pawns, what is impossible?"
Su Qingyun was silent. For the first time, she was at a loss for words. She didn't know what to say, nor could she tell him that this era that was heading towards strangeness would always return to the right track, and in the near future.
"It will be fine." She said dryly, feeling powerless.
"Let's find a book." Ji Yue returned to his cold expression, as if the cynical person just now was not him.
"good."
The two of them walked around casually. Su Qingyun brushed away the depression in his heart and shuttled among the bookshelves like a happy little bird.
The books in the library were simply divided into literature, history, art, mathematics and physics. Both of them were in the mathematics and physics section. Su Qingyun's eyes swept over every book on the bookshelf one by one, picking out the ones that interested him.
Su Qingyun pulled out a copy of "Journal of Mathematics". She was a little surprised. She didn't expect to see a mathematics journal here. Doesn't this require a subscription?
When she was in the provincial capital before, she saw a similar mathematics journal at Uncle Qi's house. She thought she just needed to pay for a subscription, but she forgot that there was no developed logistics here like in later generations. She was the only one who subscribed to it, and there was no one to deliver to such a remote place as Luoshui Village.
So, her subscription plan was shelved.
"You want to see this?" Ji Yue appeared beside her.
Su Qingyun: "It's hard to find this kind of book here."
"There are more over there." Ji Yue pointed in a direction, "Books of this kind were all ordered by Mr. Chu. After he finished reading them, he put them on the bookshelf for everyone to borrow."
"Mr. Chu... is a mathematics professor?" Su Qingyun asked tentatively.
"That's probably the case. He doesn't really like to talk about the past, and I know it pretty well."
Su Qingyun sighed in his heart, feeling even more sad that such a scholar was buried.
With a library card, one can borrow up to five books at a time. After spending half a day choosing, Su Qingyun finally chose three mathematics journals and two agricultural books.
The book was placed on the lending counter. Old Chu raised his eyes and took a look, a little surprised, "You like reading this kind of book?" He subscribed to the journal himself, so he naturally knew how difficult this kind of journal was. Could this girl understand it?
"I'm quite interested." Su Qingyun smiled.
"That's right. There are not many children who like math nowadays." Old Chu had a better impression of her. "Take it back and read it. If you don't understand something, you can ask me next time." He is a teacher, so naturally he likes students who love to learn.
