Chapter 75: Moving Forward with Determination

The resumption of the college entrance examination and her admission to university would be her chance to go to the capital.

Hearing her words, Father Ji was a little confused. He asked, "Do you know anyone in the capital?"

"It's not me, it's my mother." Su Qingyun confessed, "My mother is from Beijing. She was one of the first batch of educated youth who went to the countryside to build the economy. She hasn't been back for more than ten years."

"Is your mother from Beijing?" Ji's father asked in surprise.

Ji Yue was also surprised. He had never heard Su Qingyun mention this before.

"Yes." Su Qingyun sighed, "After the turmoil, my mother lost contact with home. I've been worried about her for so many years. I know she really wants to go back and see us. But the current situation..."

She didn't finish her words, but both father and son understood what she meant.

"What are you talking about? You look so serious." Ji's mother came out with the dishes.

Su Qingyun quickly stood up and wanted to help.

"Qingyun, sit down, it's okay." Mother Ji called Father Ji, "Come and help me bring the soup."

Father Ji stood up and went into the kitchen to bring the soup to the table.

After all the dishes were served and everyone was seated, Ji's mother picked up some food for Su Qingyun.

"Qingyun, I heard Ah Yue say that you like to eat fish. I bought this this morning. Try it and see if it suits your taste."

Hearing this, Su Qingyun looked at Ji Yue in surprise. How did he know that she liked to eat fish?

"Every time the school cafeteria cooks fish, you always order this dish." Ji Yue explained lightly.

"Oh, that's what I told you. How did you know?" Su Qingyun suddenly realized without thinking much about it.

Father Ji gave his son a mischievous look. He didn't know that this boy had a habit of watching others get their meals.

"How is it?" Seeing Su Qingyun take a bite, Ji's mother asked with a smile on her face.

"It's delicious! Auntie is a great cook!" Su Qingyun praised generously.

Mother Ji's smile grew even wider. She poured a bowl of soup for Su Qingyun and said, "Have another bowl of soup. I've been stewing this soup for several hours. It's very delicious."

"Okay, thank you, Auntie." Su Qingyun said obediently.

The atmosphere at the table was good. The Ji family did not have the habit of not talking while eating or sleeping. As they were talking, Ji's mother asked what they were talking about just now.

Ji's father mentioned it casually.

"There's also this matter?" Ji's mother was also shocked when she heard about Su Qingyun's mother's situation. "Then your mother has really had a hard time over the years."

When I was young, I left home to support rural construction. Later, when the country encountered turmoil, I lost contact with my family. I haven't heard from them for all these years, and I don't know how sad I must be.

Fortunately, she settled down here and had children, otherwise she wouldn't know how she could have survived alone.

"My mother rarely talks to us about the past, but even though she doesn't say it, we all know she's upset." Su Qingyun's tone was a little heavy, "It's mainly because my grandparents are old now, and my mother is always worried about them and can't let them go."

In those turbulent times, communication was not well developed and the only way to communicate was to write letters. Once we lost contact, it was very likely that we would never see each other again in this life.

"That's true. Who doesn't look forward to a family reunion?" Mother Ji sighed as she thought of her elderly parents. She thought for a moment and said, "Where was your mother's previous address in the capital? I'll see if I can ask someone to help find out."

Although the Ji family moved from the capital to this small place, it did not mean that they had completely cut off contact with the other side. With the Ji family's connections in the capital, even if other things failed, they could still find someone to do something like this.

Su Qingyun was surprised when he heard it. "Really? Thank you so much."

Mother Ji smiled kindly, "It's okay, tell me the address, I want to see which part of the capital is it in?"

Su Qingyun thought for a moment and said, "It should be in the East District of Beijing."

"Dongcheng District?" Ji's mother frowned. "That's a bit broad. Do you know the specific street? Or maybe your grandparents' names or something like that? It would be better to be more precise so that we can find them."

Su Qingyun recalled for a moment and said uncertainly, "It seems to be on Hepingli Street in Dongcheng District."

"My grandmother's name is Wang Biyun, and my grandfather's name is Qin Weiguo." She still remembered it clearly.

"Bang!" With a crisp sound, the bowl in Ji's mother's hand fell to the ground and exploded into pieces.

But she didn't care about all this and just stared at Su Qingyun with disbelief on her face. Ji's father also widened his eyes suddenly.

What happened? Su Qingyun and Ji Yue looked at each other in confusion.
