Chapter 1 Rebirth in Ancient Times

Lin Mo's consciousness gradually became clear from chaos. Before he could fully wake up, the instinct accumulated from more than a year of escaping in the apocalypse forced him to open his eyes suddenly.

Even though his heart was beating very fast, Lin Mo still tried to lighten his breathing. Although he was a little disappointed that he was not dead despite such serious injuries, what he had to do now was to try his best not to be caught by those people from the research institute.

However, when Lin Mo's vision became clear, he found something wrong. If he guessed correctly, the thing above his head should be a mosquito net, right?

He clearly remembered that the place where he lost consciousness was a damp alley surrounded by zombies in front and behind. Lin Mo turned his head to the other side with difficulty and observed where he was now.

No! All wrong!

Before Lin Mo could figure out what was going on, he heard footsteps coming from outside the door, and his heart tightened.

“Squeak…”

The door opened and two children who looked about ten years old walked in. They looked exactly the same and anyone who saw them could tell they were twins.

Lin Mo's body tensed up when he saw the children coming in, but his attention was diverted when he saw what one of the children was holding.

He smelled the aroma of food.

"Fourth brother, you're awake!" The ten-year-old child holding the porcelain bowl grinned happily when he saw that his fourth brother lying on the bed had woken up.

Lin Mo did not respond to him, still staring at the bowl in his hand. His almost rusty brain slowly started to work. It seemed that he had not eaten normal food for more than three years, let alone a bowl of hot porridge.

In the research institute, the place where Lin Mo spent the most time was the operating table. In order to prevent him from dying, those people injected him with liquids to maintain his physiological functions. After more than a year of escape, his food became more and more strange, and it could not be called food.

"Mom and eldest brother went to the fields to weed, and my eldest sister-in-law is feeding my nephews and nieces. Fourth brother will be taken care of by my younger brother and me today." Lin Xing walked to the bedside with a bowl in his hand.

"Fifth brother, fourth brother must be hungry." Lin Chen reminded Lin Xing who was nagging at the side.

"Ah? Oh, help fourth brother up first." Lin Xing put the bowl in his hand on the wooden table and called Lin Chen to come over to help.

Lin Chen took off his shoes skillfully and climbed onto the bed. The two children helped Lin Mo up and leaned him against the bed.

Lin Mo instinctively wanted to avoid their touch, but his body was too weak to move.

Lin Mo looked at them expressionlessly, his nerves tense. All this was too weird. Could it be an illusion created by a psychic?

But Lin Mo quickly denied his previous guess. Even a high-level psychic could not change his body. And it was obvious that his current body was obviously not his original one.

Before Lin Mo could figure out anything, he was attracted back to his senses by the aroma of food. The aroma of meat and the taste of rice porridge made Lin Mo swallow his saliva.

Lin Mo ate the porridge the child fed him mouthful by mouthful. The warm meat porridge slowly warmed up his body.

It’s so warm, this can’t be a dream, right?

"Fourth brother, why are you crying?" Lin Xing saw his fourth brother crying while eating, and felt a little panicked. Could it be that he still had a fever?

When Lin Chen heard this, he looked up and saw that his fourth brother had no expression but his eyes were red, and a few tears had already flowed down his neck. Lin Chen hurriedly took out a piece of cloth from under the pillow to wipe away his fourth brother's tears and touched his forehead.

"I still have a slight fever, but it's okay. My second brother said it's normal to cry when you're sick." Lin Chen explained.

"Second brother is a scholar, so what he said must be right." Lin Xing also said, and nodded heavily for fear that Lin Mo would not believe it.

I heard from other friends that if the boy cries in front of others, he will definitely feel shy and embarrassed afterwards, and may even ignore others for a long time.

In their impression, although the fourth brother was a bro, they had never seen him cry, even though he had to drink very bitter medicine every time he was sick.

But now, Fourth Brother was crying while drinking porridge. He would certainly be like that when he gets better. If mother and eldest brother knew about it, they would definitely be beaten. The beating from eldest brother hurts a lot.

"Fourth brother, there is half a bowl of porridge left. Do you want to drink more?" Lin Xing asked cautiously.

"Yeah." Lin Mo responded, his voice a little weak.

Bowls in the countryside are all big bowls. Lin Mo felt full after drinking half a bowl. Perhaps it was because the original owner had a small appetite. But even when he was full, Lin Mo still couldn't help wanting to eat when he saw the food.

It’s like walking in the desert for several months and suddenly finding a water source. Even if your stomach is full from drinking, you still want to drink more water.

Lin Mo was already starving.

After finishing the porridge, Lin Mo lay back on the bed and closed his eyes to rest. The two brothers Lin Xing and Lin Chen picked up the empty bowls and walked out of the room lightly.

Hearing the sound of the door closing, Lin Mo, who was lying on the bed, opened his eyes and his mind slowly emptied.

After ruling out the speculation of "psychic's trap", the only possibility that Lin Mo could think of was time travel, and he was not unfamiliar with this situation.

In his college life before the apocalypse, he spent most of his time in the dormitory reading novels except for attending classes, and his first choice was time-travel novels. From what he could remember now, his soul should have traveled to ancient times.

Lin Mo clenched his fists, feeling weak all over, and instead of feeling disappointed, he felt somewhat relieved.

Although this body was very weak and it was obvious that it had rarely done heavy work, it was still better than his body that was full of holes and hidden diseases. At least he didn't have to worry about the "sleeping virus" in his body erupting without warning one day.

"How is Mo Ge'er's health?"

Mrs. Lin, who was feeding her child, saw the two people coming out and asked.

"It should be almost ready. Fourth brother was able to finish a bowl of porridge just now."

Lin Xing put the empty bowl aside and sat down to eat, occasionally helping to take care of his little nephew who was sitting on a stool and making some noise.

Mrs. Lin nodded and continued to feed the two children, taking a few bites of rice when she had time. After everyone had finished eating, Mrs. Lin quickly cleaned up the dishes and took them into the kitchen.

"Ah Xing, Ah Chen, keep an eye on Mo Ge'er and Xiao Nan. I'm going to bring food to my parents."

Mrs. Lin came out of the kitchen, carrying a large bamboo basket in her hand. After giving instructions loudly, she put on a straw hat and quickly walked out of the house.

Lin Mo, lying on the bed, listened to the sounds outside the room, staring at the mosquito net above the bed without blinking.

After a long time, Lin Mo heard the sound of the door opening. He turned his head slowly with a stiff neck and saw two three-year-old children staggering in, followed by the two children who had delivered the food.

"Fifth Uncle, hug me~" The child with long hair stretched out his hand and looked up at Lin Xing, blinking his eyes.

"Okay, okay, don't make trouble for your fourth uncle, okay?" Lin Xing picked up his little niece and put her on the bed, saying seriously.

"Xiaoya, be good and don't make trouble~"

Lin Xiaoya nodded with a stern face and a baby voice, then slowly crawled into the bed, crawling over Lin Mo's body in the middle. Fortunately, a three-year-old child is not heavy.

The other three-year-old boy climbed onto the bed using his own hands and feet, put his hands on the edge of the bed, and stared at Lin Mo with his big eyes blinking.

Lin Mo saw a young face appear in his sight. His eyelashes trembled, and then he didn't move, except for blinking every once in a while.

"Fourth Uncle..."

“…”

There were only two three-year-old children and Lin Mo lying peacefully on the bed in the room. Lin Xing and Lin Chen had already gone out to feed the pigs and chickens and clean the house.

"Fourth Uncle, do you want some candy?" Lin Xiaoya took out a piece of brown candy with a strange shape from her pocket with great effort and moved her body towards Lin Mo's pillow.

Hearing the word "eat", Lin Mo finally reacted. He blinked and turned to look at the child on the bed, then looked at the candy in her hand which was completely different from what he remembered.

"……eat."

Lin Xiaoya put the candy in her hand into Fourth Uncle's mouth and watched him chewing without blinking. He smacked his lips and slurped softly before turning his head away. Daddy would give her another candy in a few days.

"Uncle Four, is it delicious?"

Lin Xiaoya struggled for a few seconds, but finally turned around and stared at Lin Mo.

"……Um."

Lin Mo was daydreaming while chewing the low-quality candy in his mouth. Although it was not as delicious as the candies he had eaten before, it was indeed delicious compared to the candies that he only had a vague impression of and could hardly remember the taste of.

So this is what sweet things taste like.

Finally, Lin Xiaonan, who was lying on the edge of the bed, also climbed onto the bed. Lin Mo lay on the bed with his eyes open, motionless, allowing them to play on the bed and climb up and down on him.

The two children posed no threat to his life, and Lin Mo didn't mind them staying next to him.

Time passed by little by little, and the two children who were full of energy just now were already sleeping beside Lin Mo. Lin Mo turned his head to look at them and closed his eyes to rest.

After a long time, it should be dusk. Although Lin Mo closed his eyes, he could still feel the afterglow of the sun shining through the window onto him, making him feel warm.

The originally quiet yard was suddenly filled with the sound of a door opening, followed by the sound of several people's footsteps, which made Lin Mo tense up.

"Mom and Dad, Brother and Sister-in-law, you're back." Lin Chen, who was washing vegetables, shook the water off his hands and quickly walked over to help take down the basket.

"Where's your fifth brother? Where did he go to play again?"

Mother Lin took off her headscarf, wiped the sweat from her face, and asked while drinking water.

"Fifth Brother and Dashan went to the river to catch fish. Eh? This is Hongguo!"

Lin Chen lifted the cloth covering the basket and saw half of the basket full of red fruits. He looked towards his mother happily.

"Your eldest brother picked these for you. Go wash them. Where are Mo Ge'er, Xiao Nan, and Xiao Ya?"

"They are sleeping in the room."

Lin Chen happily carried the basket to the well in the yard, squatted down, poured the fruits in the basket into the basin and began to wash them.

Mrs. Lin cleaned up and came out of the house, continuing to wash and take out the vegetables from the basin. The vegetables had been soaked in water for too long and were no longer as crisp and fresh as before.

"You two go inside and check. If Mo Ge'er is awake, help him out to get some sunshine. The sun here isn't as bright as it is at noon."

Lin's mother took over the work from her eldest daughter-in-law, picked off the old stems of the vegetables whose leaves were wilting on the ground, and soaked them in water.

"I got it, mother. Dacheng and I will go take a look. You just wash the vegetables and leave them there. I'll cook them." Mrs. Lin shook the water off her hands, stood up and said.

"Hey, Mom, go check if the fire in the stove is still burning. I just washed the vegetables and forgot about the rice in the pot." Lin Chen, who was halfway through washing the fruit, suddenly remembered the rice in the pot in the kitchen and shouted hurriedly.

"When will you change your forgetful habit?" Mother Lin looked at her little son, somewhat disappointed, then stood up and walked quickly into the kitchen.

Lin Chen pursed his lips and washed the remaining red fruits while mumbling.
