Chapter 22 Marriage

After Lin Mo and Lin Cheng had discussed it, they went to the orchard to pick ripe fruits the next day. However, this time Lin's mother did not agree to let Lin Mo go, and asked him to stay at home to look after the two children.

Lin Mo planned to make some dried fruits and jams that were easy to store first. Juice and pastries could be made that day.

Lin Cheng recovered, so they picked the fruit faster. When the first batch was brought back, Lin's mother and sister-in-law came back with them. They took the baskets full of fruit off the cart, and the two men pushed the cart to the orchard.

After Lin Mo briefly explained the steps to the two of them, the three of them began to peel the fruits that could be used to make dried fruits. Because the thickness of the slices had to be moderate, Lin's mother and sister-in-law were responsible for peeling, while Lin Mo was responsible for slicing.

After cutting a part, Lin Mo placed the fruit slices in a bamboo dustpan, took it to a well-ventilated place with sunlight, and then continued with his previous work.

Lin Xiaoya, who was sitting in the yard playing, felt a little bored. She looked up at her grandmother and mother, then turned her head to look at her fourth uncle who was holding some fruit.

"Fourth Uncle, Xiaoya wants to play too." Lin Xiaoya stood up and walked over with her short legs, gently tugging at Lin Mo's trouser leg.

"Be good, Fourth Uncle isn't playing, go play with your brother." Lin Mo took the time to give her two washed pears and said, but he didn't stop cutting the fruit.

"Okay." Lin Xiaoya held two pears in her hands, nodded and walked towards the door.

Lin Xiaoya and Lin Xiaonan sat on each side, holding a pear and chewing it. After chewing half of the pear, Lin Xiaoya looked up and saw Cheng Yan coming from a distance. No, to be more precise, she saw the things in the small bamboo basket in his hand.

"Brother, Uncle Cheng is here to cause trouble again~" Lin Xiaoya turned her head to look at Lin Xiaonan beside her.

"Oh, I see." Lin Xiaonan looked up, then continued to eat the pear with his head down.

"Uncle Cheng is holding something in his hand. I want to go see if it's Rabbit." Lin Xiaoya held a half-eaten pear in her left hand, supported herself with her right hand and stood up, then staggered towards Cheng Yan.

When Lin Xiaonan heard this, he immediately raised his head and looked at Cheng Yan with a startlingly bright look in his eyes. When he saw his sister walking over, he thought for a second and stood up and ran over with his short legs.

"Uncle Cheng, you're here." Lin Xiaoya walked to Cheng Yan, grabbed his clothes, looked up at him, and said as she followed him.

"Yeah." Cheng Yan responded and tried to slow down his pace.

"Uncle Cheng, is that a rabbit inside?" Lin Xiaoya blinked at him.

"no."

"Oh." Lin Xiaoya responded obediently.

Lin Xiaonan came over and followed Cheng Yan, looking up at the small bamboo basket in his hand.

"Is there a dog inside?" Lin Xiaonan asked.

"No." Cheng Yan said dryly.

"Then... who is Uncle Cheng going to give it to?" Lin Xiaoya asked. There was only a white animal in it, and if she gave it to them, it didn't seem like there would be enough for her and her brother to share.

"...For your fourth uncle." Cheng Yan pursed his lips and was silent for a while, then said.

"Huh? Is that so... Then I'll go tell Fourth Uncle." After Lin Xiaoya said this, she ran into the yard with her short legs again.

Cheng Yan was about to speak up to stop them when he heard Lin Xiaoya running in and shouting. She paused for a moment, with an unnatural look on her face.

"Fourth Uncle... Uncle Cheng came to make trouble, and brought you something that looks like a little rabbit... " Lin Xiaoya stopped, scratched her head, and looked a little confused. What was that? It seemed that Uncle Cheng didn't say it.

"Who's here?" Lin Mo heard Lin Xiaoya's voice coming from outside the yard, but he couldn't hear what she said clearly.

"Uncle Cheng is here to cause trouble~" Lin Xiaoya walked up to Lin Mo and said.

Lin Mo paused, looked up at the door, and saw Cheng Yan and Lin Xiaonan walking in. The two looked at each other unexpectedly, and soon Lin Mo lowered his head and continued cutting fruit.

"Big Cheng, why are you here today? Didn't you go to town?" Mother Lin also heard her granddaughter's words. She looked up at Cheng Yan who walked in and asked.

"Just got back."

Cheng Yan put the things in his hand aside, and Lin Xiaoya and Lin Xiaonan squatted there to watch. After washing his hands, Cheng Yan walked to Lin Mo's side.

"Let me cut it." Cheng Yan stood aside and watched for a few seconds and said.

“…Remember to keep the thickness moderate.” Lin Mo raised his head to look at him, put down the knife in his hand, and walked aside.

Cheng Yan picked up the knife and cut the fruit in the same way Lin Mo had done, and his speed was twice as fast as his. Seeing this, Lin Mo also went to the side to place the fruit slices and then put them out to dry.

The fruits suitable for making dried fruits have been cut almost completely, and Lin Mo began to prepare to make jam. However, this time he taught Sister Lin first, and then the two of them worked together.

It was almost noon, and Father Lin and his elder brother had already made several trips back and forth, and Lin Mo and his team were almost done. When Father Lin and his team came back from the last trip, Lin Mo handed the last job to them, and he went into the kitchen with Lin Xing and Lin Chen to cook.

Seeing that Brother Mo was not feeling unwell, Lin's mother let him be. After all, they all liked the food cooked by Lin Mo.

After all the fruits outside were processed, Lin Mo and the others had also prepared the meal. Cheng Yan moved the last jar into the warehouse, stood up and pinched his sore arm.

"Da Cheng, please stay for dinner. Brother Mo has already prepared the meal." Father Lin put the jar away carefully, stood up and said.

"Okay." Cheng Yan, who was about to refuse, paused and nodded in response when he heard that the meal was made by Lin Mo.

"Why are you here today?" Father Lin asked as he walked out of the warehouse.

"I have something to ask you and Aunt Lin... and Lin Mo."

"What happened between you and Brother Mo?" Father Lin tilted his head to look at him and smiled. Last night, Lin Mo had already told his father and mother about his relationship with Cheng Yan. Father and mother Lin also knew about it, but they didn't expect Cheng Yan to come over today.

"Yeah." Cheng Yan said with a somewhat unnatural expression.

"Okay, let's talk after dinner." Father Lin patted his shoulder and walked out with a smile.

Cheng Yan stood there, touching his ears which were a little hot, and decided to wait a while before going over.

After Cheng Yan entered, most of the others were seated, and the only empty seat was next to Lin Mo. But Cheng Yan didn't feel embarrassed at all, so he walked over and sat down.

Lin Mo glanced at Cheng Yan who was sitting next to him, but didn't say anything. He listened to their conversation while eating, and sometimes when they asked him questions, Lin Mo would answer a sentence or two.

After lunch, Sister Lin and Mother Lin took the dishes away to wash. Lin Xing and Lin Chen sat slumped aside, not wanting to move. The two children, Lin Xiaonan and Lin Xiaoya, wandered around in the hall and finally stayed beside Lin Mo.

After Lin's mother came back from washing, Lin's father asked Cheng Yan, "Now that your Aunt Lin is here, you can tell me."

"What did you say?" Lin's mother wiped the water off her hands, looked up and asked in confusion.

"Ahem... I want to ask Aunt Lin what kind of preparations are needed for the wedding." Cheng Yan coughed softly and said it a little unnaturally. Fortunately, nothing could be seen on Cheng Yan's face.

"Prepare for what? I forgot that you have no elders in your family, so you don't know these things."

Afterwards, Lin's mother told Cheng Yan in detail about the process before and after the wedding, and Cheng Yan listened carefully throughout the whole process. Lin Mo tilted his head to look at Cheng Yan, he could only hear the general idea in his mind, and really couldn't understand how Cheng Yan could listen so attentively.

Lin Xing and Lin Chen, who were lying on the side digesting their food, only realized halfway through that they were discussing the marriage between Cheng Yan and their fourth brother.

"When did Brother Cheng and Fourth Brother get close enough to get married?" Lin Xing leaned over and nudged Lin Chen next to him, asking in a low voice.

Lin Xing remembered that not long ago he had asked his fourth brother whether he liked Brother Cheng. At that time, his fourth brother clearly said that he didn't like him. Now they were talking about marriage?

"You ask me? How should I know?" Lin Chen pushed his head away, stood up and walked over. Seeing this, Lin Xing also quickly stood up and followed him.

And then... then Lin Xing saw Lin Chen stop and stand motionlessly by the side listening to them.

Lin Xing: “…”

"Fourth brother...Fourth brother, come here." Lin Xing saw that they were all seriously discussing the marriage process and no one noticed him, so he called out in a low voice.

Lin Mo tilted his head to glance at Lin Xing, then turned around and saw that Lin's father and mother were still talking, so he stood up and walked over.

"What do you want me to do?" Lin Mo walked over and asked.

"Fourth brother, are you really going to marry Brother Cheng?" Lin Xing looked back at them, then turned back to look at Lin Mo and asked in a low voice.

"Yeah." Lin Mo nodded.

"You said before that... you don't like Brother Cheng."

“Well… love is unpredictable. Sometimes you can’t stop it. You’ll understand when you grow up.” Lin Mo touched his head and said, then walked back and sat down to continue listening to them.

Lin Xing: ...
