Chapter 3 Fruit Forest

After hearing the noises of children playing in the yard, Lin Mo also stood up, stretched his stiff body on the spot, and walked out of the room. He looked at them silently for a few minutes. Lin Mo also imitated the four children in the family and stood on the large stone slab to brush his teeth.

The Lin family was not wealthy in Daling Village, but they could eat enough. They had 15 acres of paddy fields and 20 acres of dry land. After deducting the annual taxes, the rest was basically enough for the family's food for a year.

But apart from basic hunger, the children in the family also had to be provided with some nutrition. In addition, the youngest son of the Lin family, Lin Mo, had been weak since childhood, and the second son of the Lin family, Lin Xiu, also needed a lot of money to pass the imperial examinations.

So even though the eldest brother of the Lin family, Lin Cheng, and Lin's father earned a lot of money by doing odd jobs every year, they were unable to make the Lin family richer. Even though the family had some savings, they still had to be on guard against the children getting sick.

Daling Village is most famous for its various fruits. Daling Village is surrounded by three large mountains, with only one road in the southeast connecting the village to the neighboring villages and leading to the county seat.

Although there were some fruit trees on the three mountains, they were not covered all over the mountains like they are now. This was because ten years ago, there was a sudden shortage of fruits from all over the country, and the shortage spread to the remote county here.

Others saw the business opportunity, and the farmers were not stupid either, so they began to plant fruit trees on the hills allocated to them. In the first two years, all the families in Daling Village did make a lot of money, but after that they began to have trouble selling their fruits.

Up to now, apart from occasionally going up the mountain to pick some for my family to eat, the rest are just left to fall and rot, and no one cares about them at all.

Now, the fruit forest on the mountain has become a playground for the children of Daling Village. Because it is not managed properly, the trees produce fewer fruits.

The weeds in the fields have been removed for more than half a month. Today, the Lin family's father and eldest brother Lin Cheng plan to go deeper into the mountains to hunt and look for herbs.

As the ancients said, live by the mountain, eat from the mountain; live by the water, eat from the water.

There are three big mountains surrounding Daling Village. In addition to farming, the men in the village also work part-time hunting in the mountains. Even if they cannot hunt big game to increase their family income, they can still hunt small game to add some meat dishes to the family table.

After breakfast, Father Lin and Lin Cheng took their things and went out. Since the farm work was temporarily finished, Mother Lin and Sister-in-law Lin stayed at home to embroider some things, planning to sell them in town at the next market day.

"Mom, my little brother and I are going to pick some fruits at the foot of the mountain."

When Lin's mother heard that Mo Ge'er wanted to go out of the house on his own initiative, she was a little surprised, but she still didn't object. It would be good to go out for a walk so as to avoid being bored staying at home all day.

"Go ahead, just don't run into the mountains. Xiaoxing, keep an eye on your fourth brother. The sun is too strong at noon, so he won't get a heat stroke."

"I understand, mother." Lin Xing replied as he put the backpack on the wall.

"Fourth Uncle, I want to go too."

When Lin Xiaoya heard Fourth Uncle say that he was going out, her eyes lit up, and she quickly stood up with her hands on the ground and walked towards Lin Mo with her short legs.

When Lin Xiaonan, who was playing with chicks on the other side, heard this, he suddenly felt that the chicks were not so fun anymore. He turned around and looked at Lin Mo with anticipation in his eyes.

"No." Lin Mo refused expressionlessly.

Xiaoya felt a little scared when she saw Lin Mo's expressionless face. She grabbed her clothes with both hands, feeling a little at a loss. Xiaoya felt that Fourth Uncle seemed angry. He looked so fierce when he didn't smile.

"...Be good and stay at home with your brother. Your fourth uncle will bring you some delicious food." Lin Mo touched her head with an awkward touch.

After Lin Mo finished explaining to the two children, he put on the backpack and left with Lin Xing and Lin Chen. Mrs. Lin looked at her two children staring at their uncle's leaving back, shook her head and smiled helplessly, then continued with her embroidery.

Not long after leaving the house, Lin Mo saw a river. There were many people washing clothes by the river. Lin Mo took a casual look and was a little surprised to see that many men were also washing clothes.

Before Lin Mo could search for the relevant memories in his mind, a passing villager greeted Lin Xing and Lin Chen, interrupting his train of thought.

"It's the young man from the Lin family. I heard that he fell ill again a few days ago. Is he feeling better now?" Aunt Zhang, who was carrying a clothes basket on her right hand, asked with a smile.

"It's done." Lin Mo nodded coldly.

"That's good. If you ask me, guys like you should go out and move around more often. Staying at home all day will make you sick."

Aunt Zhang didn't find Lin Mo's indifference strange. Lin Mo didn't often walk around the village, and other people didn't know much about him. They had only heard that the Lin family had a frail little boy with a somewhat introverted personality.

Little brother? What does that mean? Lin Mo was a little confused. He had felt that Lin's mother's address to him was a little strange before, and he thought it was the nickname of his original body, so he didn't pay much attention to it.

Although Lin Mo has some memories of his original body, if he does not deliberately dig deeper, all he knows is a rough outline, which is general and vague. He is not even sure whether this dynasty is historical or fictional.

And it was impossible for Lin Mo to ask others openly like this, as this would clearly tell others that something was wrong with him.

"Aunt Zhang, let's go first. The sun has risen. We can talk again another day."

Lin Chen listened to Aunt Zhang talking to them for such a long time without stopping, and quickly said that if they continued talking, the sun would be too bright, and she was the only one talking the whole time, and Lin Chen could feel his fourth brother's impatience.

In fact, it was just a frown of doubt.

After saying goodbye to Aunt Zhang, the three brothers continued on their way. Lin Chen glanced at his fourth brother who was walking beside him and felt relieved. He always felt that his fourth brother had changed a lot recently, but this change didn't seem to be a bad thing.

The three of them walked towards a small path that forked the road. There were many bushes on both sides of the road, and some fruit trees between the bushes.

"The fruits on the roadside are not sweet. They are the most delicious when you go to the other side of the mountain. They are crisp and juicy." Lin Xing saw his fourth brother looking up at the fruit trees on the roadside and thought he wanted to eat them, so he explained.

"How far is it?" Lin Mo retracted his gaze and continued on his way.

Since there are better ones, Lin Mo will not force himself to eat those inferior ones. Although he really wants to eat them, Lin Mo can still wait.

"Almost there, the one in front is it. A little further in there is a kind of purple wild fruit, sour and sweet, very delicious."

Lin Xing pointed to a large orchard in the distance ahead. Some of the branches of the orchard still had flowers hanging on them, while others were already full of fruits.

Lin Mo's body had been transformed by the spiritual spring water. Although the transformation was not thorough, his facial features were still several times more sensitive than those of ordinary people. He could faintly smell the sweet scent of fruit here.

Lin Mo sniffed gently. The morning air was very fresh. The refreshing smell of grass and the sweet smell of fruit made Lin Mo feel much better and his tense nerves relaxed a little.

Lin Mo's eyebrows curved slightly, and he quickened his pace and walked forward. Lin Xing and Lin Chen, who were left behind, looked at each other for a few seconds and hurried to catch up. Why did it feel like Fourth Brother seemed very happy?

"Does Fourth Brother like to eat fruit?"

"That's about right. Eating more fruits is good for your health." Lin Mo was in a good mood, and his tone was not so cold anymore.

It wasn't long before they arrived. Lin Mo took a few steps forward, stood on tiptoe, reached out to pick a red apple, wiped it with his clothes a few times, and began to chew it.

Lin Mo walked forward and looked around while eating. He found that there were many varieties of fruits here.

"Are the types of fruits in our house the same as those in other families?" Lin Mo finished an apple in a few gulps, then picked a large pear and ate it while walking.

"They're not exactly the same. We have more of them here. There are also some wild fruits that we haven't seen before under the cliff inside." Lin Chen explained.

"Fifth brother, what are you doing?"

Lin Chen, who was following Lin Mo, turned around and didn't see his twin brother catching up. He looked around and found Lin Xing squatting under a tree.

"There are some strange plants here. Come and take a look. The fruits are colorful." Lin Xing turned around and waved at them, beckoning them over.

Lin Mo followed and saw it, he was a little confused. Aren't those colorful peppers only found in modern times? How come they were also found here in ancient times? Could they have mutated?

Moreover, Lin Mo also found a chili tree growing next to it. Looking to the side, he found a tomato tree with small fruits in clusters that looked similar to grapes.

"Is it just this one? What about that one? Are there only one planted?" Lin Mo asked, pointing at the big tomato tree.

"There are two more of these plants a little ahead. As for the one with bunches of green fruits hanging from it, there is only one. It suddenly grew out half a year ago. But the fruits can only be eaten when they turn red."

"If you eat it uncooked, you'll get a stomachache. Fifth brother has tried it." Lin Chen added.

Lin Xing: “…”

Of course you can't eat unripe tomatoes.

Afterwards, Lin Mo followed them around the orchard. The fruit trees in the orchard were planted quite neatly, with one variety planted in one area and the land divided into neat squares.

After the tour, Lin Mo found that this place was somewhat different from what he had imagined in ancient times. Some fruits were obviously only available in modern times or introduced from abroad, but they can be grown on a large scale here.

Lin Mo didn't know whether other crops were also so advanced, but he was sure that this was not from any historical period. Perhaps it was really a fictional history.

After walking around and eating half full, Lin Mo and his two younger brothers went to pick grapes at the foot of the cliff, which were the purple, sour and sweet wild fruits that Lin Xing had mentioned before.

The grapes here are wild and grow on the cliff walls, so the fruits are quite large. For a young boy like Lin Mo, one is just the right size to eat in one bite.

After reading it, Lin Xing was able to determine how to make money. There were a lot of fruits here and ready-made materials. He could make money just from the wine, not to mention other fruit-related foods.
