Chapter 46: A Big Blow
Lin Shaojun walked to the foundation of the house and found Lin Qin on the hill not far away, throwing stones down. He squinted his eyes and asked, "Sister Qin, what are you doing with the stones? Are you going to use the stones to build a house?"
Lin Yi gestured at the foundation and explained, "This is an island. They plan to use rocks from the mountain and cement to raise the foundation. We have collected so many stones, and we can almost start. But my leg is not fully healed yet, and Wenjun and Aqin don't know how to build a house, so we need to find someone to help."
Lin Shaojun immediately patted his chest and said, "Come find me! My dad and I do this kind of work. Whenever you need anything, just let me know."
"That's great! I feel really relieved to come to you guys!" Lin Yi was overjoyed.
Chen Wenjun was also very grateful. He helped hide Lin Shaojun's bicycle on the mountain, brought him two big fish, and personally rowed the boat to send him back.
During Lin Shaojun's trip, not only did he solve his bicycle problem, he also got two black fish weighing two or three kilograms, and he was humming songs all the way.
Wait until he gets home.
When Lin Qingxiang saw the fish, his eyes widened instantly, "What happened? Why did you take the fish?"
Lin Shaojun said mysteriously, "Dad! You will never guess that Ah Qin and his husband bought a deserted island and they plan to build a house on it! Uncle Yi asked us to do odd jobs there, and I agreed."
"What? Bought an island? What nonsense are you talking about! If the boat people had the money to buy an island, how could they not be able to marry a wife?" Lin Qingxiang's wife Huang Yuzhen retorted.
Lin Shaojun was anxious, "Mom! I went to the island to see it myself! It can't be fake! Wenjun said it's not safe to sell the car now. If we get caught and can't deny it, I'll hide the car on the island. Even if the police come, we can confidently say we didn't know and sell the car after the storm has died down.
These two fish were given by Wen Jun. Look, he just casually gave me two big black fish, which are worth several dollars!"
Huang Yuzhen looked at the two fish and had nothing to say, but she doubted what Lin Shaojun said in her heart.
Lin Qingxiang reminded him, “You guys should keep this to yourself. If someone asks you about it, just say you don’t know anything. Do you understand?”
Huang Yuzhen rolled her eyes. "Do you need to tell me that? I get angry when I think about what happened today! All those vegetables are rotten and can only be fed to pigs! Liu Yongming must compensate us fifty yuan!"
"Ahem." Lin Shaojun choked and looked at his mother in shock, "Mom! Is fifty dollars too much?"
The vegetables they grow are probably not worth fifty dollars.
Huang Yuzhen rolled her eyes at her son. "Why are you so cruel? The vegetables I worked so hard to grow are being ruined! Is this a matter of money? This is a matter of character! Will that bastard learn his lesson if I don't fine him a little? Anyway, the vegetables are ruined, and I have the final say on how much it costs!"
Lin Shaojun was speechless.
That night, two policemen brought Liu Yongming over to give money and apologize.
It seemed that they had reached a consensus, and two policemen were still speaking for Liu Yongming and trying to smooth things over.
Lin Qingxiang was unhappy, but in the end he gave face to the police, accepted the money and reconciled.
Liu Yongming walked out of Shanglin Village with two policemen with a sullen face.
When they arrived at the entrance of the village, the police warned Liu Yongming again: "Today, someone from above spoke for you. Since you are still cooperating, we will not say anything. We hope that you will learn a lesson from this incident, turn over a new leaf, and start a new life."
"That's right! Young people shouldn't be so impulsive! You are a college student after all. If you go to the police station again and again, your reputation will be ruined. What good future can you have?"
Liu Yongming lowered his head and nodded perfunctorily.
The two policemen glanced at him and turned away.
Liu Yongming waited until they walked away before he kicked the roadside tree a few times as if to vent his anger. He then walked to where he had hidden his bicycle, cursing under his breath.
When he parted the grass and took a look, he was immediately panicked.
"Where's my bike? Where's my bike?"
He searched the entire patch of grass, but couldn't find a bicycle, not even a wheel. He immediately collapsed and ran in the direction the police left, "My bicycle was stolen! My bicycle was stolen."
The two policemen were stopped halfway and seeing that Liu Yongming was anxious and angry with tears on his face, they had to turn back to help him look for it.
The three of them took two flashlights and walked around the area at the entrance of the village, but there was no sign of the bicycle.
The two had to take Liu Yongming back to file a case.
The policeman looked at him with some impatience, "Why did you leave your bike in the bushes?"
Liu Yongming's eyes flickered. "I hid it there because I was afraid it would be stolen."
The policeman looked like he saw through him and sneered, "I see you came prepared, but ended up losing more than you gained! Just tell me! Where can we find your bicycle in the middle of the night? By tomorrow, the bicycle will have run out of Anshi!"
Liu Yongming's face turned even paler, and he burst into tears. "Police comrades, you must help me get my bicycle back! It must have been those people from Shanglin Village who stole my bicycle and sold it. You must help me!"
He didn't have much money to begin with, and he had spent most of the little subsidy he earned from his internship. He also owed more than a hundred dollars in foreign debt. If his bicycle was lost again, he would be really finished!
The police may joke around, but they will not be vague about what they have to do.
That night they searched several bicycle repair places they knew nearby, but no one was selling bicycles there. The police even greeted them and asked them to help keep an eye on the place.
Early the next morning.
Several policemen went to Shanglin Village and went door to door to inquire about the whereabouts of the bicycle.
The villagers knew nothing about anything and could not provide any useful information. However, someone mentioned that Lin Shaojun left the village in the evening and did not return until dark.
The police came to investigate.
Lin Shaojun was very calm. "Police comrade, you also know that the vegetable field that was destroyed in my family belongs to Lin Yi. With such a big incident, shouldn't I go and inform him? Look, I went there yesterday, and Uncle Yi gave me two big black fish!"
The police officer looked at the two fish carefully and confirmed that they were from Nanxi River. His expression eased a lot. "We are also conducting a routine investigation. Since you don't know, we will leave first."
Lin Shaojun personally sent them to the door.
Several policemen walked through Shanglin Village and confirmed that Liu Yongming's bicycle was not in the village, so they could only go back and ask Liu Yongming to wait for news.
Liu Yongming walked out of the police station in a trance and headed towards the municipal hospital like a wandering ghost, but was stopped by Liu Yongguo halfway.
"Yongming, where the hell have you been? We've been looking for you for a whole day. What's wrong with you?"
Liu Yongguo had just said a few words when he realized that Liu Yongming's mental state was not right. His heart tightened and his face turned pale.
Liu Yongming threw himself into Liu Yongguo's arms and burst into tears, "My bicycle was stolen! I don't want to live anymore!"
