Chapter 1049: Halfway there?

Once upstairs and inside the office, Lu Feng appeared exceptionally relaxed. He sat on the sofa, instructed the clerk to brew some tea, and then asked Manager Li who had called.

There are all sorts of rumors circulating outside, and Siemens, Ericsson, Schroder Group, and Sean have all called to inquire about the specifics.

"What did you say to them?" Lu Feng asked.

"I don't know anything, I can't explain it. John is still waiting in the reception room." Manager Li asked, "Should we call him over?"

"Call him over," Lu Feng instructed after a moment's thought.

A few minutes later, John pushed open the door and walked in. He was stunned to see Lu Feng sitting there and said, "It seems that President Lu had a great time at the Angel's Banquet last night. You're only coming to the company now."

Lu Feng didn't get up when he saw him come in. He pointed to the sofa next to him and said, "You've been drinking and it's making things difficult. Please sit down. Did you need something? You could have just called. Why did you have to come all this way?"

John scoffed inwardly at his words. Just a while ago, he was fawning over him, but after only one night, he couldn't even be bothered to stand up when he came in.

He didn't care about those things. John pondered for a moment and asked, "There are rumors that you and Nokia might strengthen your cooperation? The board of directors doesn't know about this. Some people even say that Jiafeng will join Nokia's board of directors?"

"Don't listen to the rumors. If something like this happened, the board of directors would definitely hold a meeting. But, I do have a close relationship with Nokia's vice president." Lu Feng picked up his teacup and took a sip.

"How close?" John inquired.

"About -18 centimeters!"

"Ahem!" John coughed twice, put down his teacup, and said, realizing he had asked the unnecessary question, "There are only a handful of large companies in Europe, you can count them on two hands. It's fine if you get close to Nokia, but don't involve Schroders. There are rumors that we're in contact with Nokia. The key point is, when I called Nokia's CEO to inquire, he gave a vague answer, as if he was trying to cover something up."

“I can’t control what people say, but it’s really not your business. I’ll tell you the truth today.” Lu Feng stared at John and said, “With Jiafeng’s current shareholding structure, I won’t be staying for long. In a few years, when the company can operate on its own, I’ll go to Europe. You know, I can marry the vice president of Nokia, take some shares, make some investments, and live a comfortable life.”

"Oh dear, what are you saying?" John said anxiously to Lu Feng, "Jiafeng was founded by you and will always be your company. Don't think too much about it. As for who you are with, that's none of our business, Mr. Lu. Please don't overthink it. We've always felt that Jiafeng Group is only Jiafeng Group with you. It's just that the current rumors are putting Schroeder Group in a very passive position."

“There’s not much to it. I’ll let the board know as soon as there’s any progress, don’t worry about that.” Lu Feng said to John, “The most important thing now is to send the funds out. Harry and Bliss’s secretaries call me every few days. They’re making a lot of money, but they can’t afford to keep going through all this trouble.”

John nodded. He was also worried about this, but he couldn't do anything about Siemens. He said, "Then I'll go back and talk to headquarters. You'd better not cause so much trouble. It's better to keep it private than to make a big fuss. Also, don't overthink it. You are to Jiafeng what the West is to Jerusalem."

"You flatter me too much," Lu Feng said with a smile.

John stood up and exchanged a few polite words, partly to probe Lu Feng's intentions, but Lu Feng told him that they had only done that little bit last night and nothing else.

After seeing John off, Lu Feng lit a cigarette and sat there pondering. He was no longer in a hurry; such a big bait had already been cast, and now it was Herman's turn to be anxious.

Lu Feng received four or five calls, from news media and telecommunications companies. He expressed his close relationship with Nokia and said he could facilitate some cooperation with Nokia, or even acquire Nokia.

After the contents of these phone calls were leaked, Nokia was thrust into the spotlight. Countless calls came in inquiring about their business and financial situation, and the midday newspapers even featured sensational headlines: Nokia was suffering severe financial losses under Ericsson's onslaught and was secretly seeking a financier, with Mr. Lu from the East, who had made billions, eager to try his luck.

The news caused an uproar not only in the UK but also around the world. Wall Street immediately took notice and called Nokia headquarters, offering to pay $2 billion to acquire 100% of its communications/mobile phone and multiple R&D centers. They were met with a barrage of insults on the other end of the line.

With calls pouring in from all over the world offering high prices to acquire Nokia, the company couldn't hold on any longer; this was no longer something Elmi's father could decide.

Within hours, more than 50 countries around the world extended olive branches, willing to acquire Nokia. The Finnish Ministry of Commerce was the first to step forward and issue a statement, saying that Nokia's business was in good condition and there was no possibility of it being sold.

Nokia then stepped forward to denounce the rumor-mongers, specifically naming and denouncing Lu Feng. Everyone was stunned, unsure whether to sell or not.

However, most people didn't really believe the statements from Nokia and the Finnish Ministry of Commerce. That's how it is internationally; when news breaks, it means the company is in trouble. They spend a lot of time denying the rumors, and then sell the company a year or two later.

That's how things are internationally. You can do things quietly, but you absolutely cannot shout about them. The louder you shout, the more it shows that you absolutely cannot do it.
