“I’m not stupid. We’ve already had internal meetings. We’ll establish another company and brand. VCD is Jiafeng’s exclusive global patent. I can’t compete with those companies in selling other products. I’ll build a factory locally to sell VCDs, and at the same time, strengthen our cooperation with Nokia and build a large R&D center.” Lu Feng said to Sean, “I don’t believe they can still cause me trouble then. Besides, Nokia and Schroder Group will be backing us then.”
Lu Feng's words were clear and straightforward, even a bit too blunt for someone like Sean, like the common language in a market. After a moment's thought, given Lu Feng's relationship with Nokia/Schroder Group, he could indeed do it.
Perhaps this is why Lu Feng was confident in not answering Hermann's calls.
“Even so, Jiafeng Group’s global capital investments are too scattered. Like I said, it’s a business matter, there’s no need to be too emotional. Come on, let me toast you.” Sean said, raising his glass. “I still think it would be better to talk to Siemens. It’s good for Nokia’s development and for you too. I’ll help you make the connection.”
Lu Feng drank a glass of wine and waved his hand, saying, "I don't want to see that person."
"Can you find a better retail channel than Siemens? Look for retailers? They have absolutely no interest in Nokia's technology; they're in retail, not the tech industry," Sean cautioned.
Lu Feng looked rather grim. He poured himself half a glass of red wine, picked it up, and drank it all in one gulp. Sean felt as if he had just run into trouble with companies like Walmart in the past few days.
“I won’t lie to you, I contacted Elmi a few days ago, and she told me that you’re in charge of this whole thing.” Sean asked, somewhat puzzled, “Why? Why are you being put in charge of Nokia?”
Lu Feng had long anticipated that these people would bypass him as an intermediary and go directly to Elmi. During this time, he had repeatedly instructed Elmi not to accept any calls, otherwise she would be completely doomed this time.
“If it’s convenient for someone from Nokia to come forward, why not just make it public? They’re asking me for something more discreet,” Lu Feng said, looking at Sean.
"Why not just sign a confidentiality agreement?" Sean still didn't understand, feeling that this was a trap.
“They have their own concerns. Let’s not talk about this anymore. If it really doesn’t work out, I’ll look for other companies. You’re just here to plead for Herman. There’s absolutely no possibility between us.” Lu Feng made his point clear and then ate his meal in silence.
As Sean ate his meal, he also muttered to himself, "Judging from a business risk perspective, what Lu Feng is doing is completely contrary to business principles. It's all so haphazard and muddled. If we continue like this, there might be some risks involved. But the name Nokia is just too attractive."
What if?
Sean forgot a piece of advice from someone who had been in business for many years: if you keep thinking "what if," something bad is bound to happen.
Seeing that he was getting agitated, Sean stopped talking and started chatting about other things. After a few rounds of drinks and dishes, the two had become quite close. He wanted to thank Sean for his help over the past six months, and they exchanged polite greetings.
After going downstairs, Sean personally saw Lu Feng to his car and asked, "Were you happy to have dinner with me?"
"I'm absolutely thrilled. Let me tell you, of all the people I've met in Europe, you're the one I get along with the best. Anyway, I'm heading back now, I have an early meeting tomorrow." Lu Feng waved goodbye to him.
"How about we continue tomorrow night? I'll find you two beauties, and we'll go somewhere else." Sean grinned at Lu Feng and said, "I've told you before, Paris is a romantic place, and London is a wild place. Don't think about work all day long, have fun when you should, and go back and get some rest."
Without waiting for Lu Feng's reply, he straightened up, waved to the driver, and the car drove away.
Sean turned around, got into the car, and called Herman directly. He didn't care whether Herman was asleep or not. After the call connected, Sean got straight to the point: "From what I know, the Nokia thing is very likely true. I just finished dinner with Lu Feng. He's still upset about you not answering the phone before. I'm on the road now, and the signal isn't very good. We'll talk when I get back."
