Inside the office building of Jiafeng R&D Company, the company has grown rapidly over the past few years, now employing nearly 500 people. With well-established departments and numerous subsidiaries, it is fully capable of becoming a group company on its own.
Inside the president's office, five senior executives sat opposite Liu Cheng, looking at their boss with a hint of helplessness on their faces. President Liu was technically competent, and he was excellent at recruiting technical personnel and in terms of research and development direction. However, his foolishness in vying for fame and profit left his subordinates feeling helpless.
For the past two years, the R&D company has been lavishly supported, with their salaries and benefits being the best in the group. This has led to some people at the group headquarters having quite a few complaints about them.
"Mr. Liu, there's something I'm not sure if I should say," the HR manager on the other end of the line said.
"Then let's not talk about it. President Lu will be back soon. We'll discuss how the new company will be divided up and what support it needs after it's established, whether it's manpower or anything else. We'll give it our full support." Liu Cheng instructed, "President Lu said that this time it's a big shot in the integrated circuit industry."
"Mr. Liu, I still want to say something." The finance manager next to Liu Cheng said, "We have to look after ourselves. Is this new company under our management? Are their finances included in our reports?"
"From what President Lu said, it doesn't belong to any company; it's a group holding company." Liu Cheng sensed something was off about these people and asked, "What's wrong? Isn't the arrival of a powerful figure supposed to relieve some pressure for us?"
“President Liu, the pressure is gone, but so is the money. You should understand this, right? If this company were under our management, we would definitely go all out and achieve results. It would be thanks to your excellent leadership. We can’t contribute money and effort. If there is a breakthrough in research, that’s their own business. Besides, when big shots come, they will definitely bring top talents. What will happen to the R&D budget in the future?” another person hurriedly added.
"Yes, people at the group headquarters are dissatisfied with us now. Last time, during a private dinner after the big meeting, they were talking in a sarcastic tone. And that Mr. Li from the group's brand department said at the meeting that we spend too much money and the results can't be converted into profits. He said he would report it to the board of directors."
“I don’t know how many people are envious of us. Now that a company like this has come, our status has plummeted. In a few years, we will be split up into a peripheral company of the group. We must take this issue seriously. We are the best to you. Only by uniting can we fight against other factions within the group.”
The others agreed with this statement. Liu Cheng frowned as he listened to these words. His management team no longer cared about the company's survival. Instead, they were worried about their own future and wanted him to always be at the center of the group's core interests.
“You can tell Mr. Lu that this company can be placed under our company and become a subsidiary. Even if that doesn’t work, as a compromise, the R&D company can hold a controlling stake.”
"That's a good idea! It's best to keep it in our own hands."
"What if President Lu doesn't agree?" Liu Cheng asked, staring at the group of people in front of him.
“He will definitely agree. Try to persuade him in every way possible, just keep at it. If the group headquarters meeting can't resolve it, then you can go to other board members and have the board decide. Once the board decides, the matter is settled.” The HR manager on the other end was clearly very familiar with Jiafeng’s current model.
The board of directors is the best weapon against Lu Feng. They find all sorts of reasons to delay Lu Feng's decisions and create all sorts of difficulties to obstruct him, ultimately leading him in the direction they expect.
"Is that so? I'm just curious, what if one day I make a decision that doesn't align with your interests? Would you still do the same thing?" Liu Cheng stared at the people in front of him, his face turning cold.
The group's hearts skipped a beat, and they panicked instantly. They hurriedly said, "How could that be, President Liu? This matter is beneficial to the company and is for the company's benefit. The R&D budget is sufficient now, but we also need to think about the future. It's not just about our personal income, but also about the nearly 10,000 R&D personnel in the entire R&D company. In the long run, it's also for the benefit of the entire group."
The group quickly realized that their words had been too blatant, and that Liu Cheng was not on their side at all. They hurriedly used the banners of group interests and the interests of the people to cover themselves up.
"I believe President Lu has his own plans for how the company will develop. In any case, Jiafeng belongs to President Lu. Even with the presence of the board of directors, we shouldn't worry about these things. Doing our jobs well is the greatest contribution we can make to the company. At the very least, we need to be worthy of our salaries and have a clear conscience. When Jiafeng no longer needs the R&D company, no matter what tricks we use, we won't be able to turn the situation around. Similarly, when the R&D company no longer needs us, what use are any of our methods other than making us a laughing stock?" Liu Cheng said to everyone.
The group fell silent and sat there quietly.
Liu Cheng knew what they were thinking and continued, "There's a saying that gold will always shine. What I want to say is, you can't expect gold to shine like the sun. You are gold, but if you think you are the sun, then leave here and let your own light illuminate the thousands of buried gold pieces under the sky. That's all I have to say. Now, get out."
After being reprimanded by Liu Cheng, the group left the office and exchanged glances. They had never realized he was so eloquent before. Privately, everyone said Liu Cheng was a blockhead and always passive in the struggle for corporate interests. They didn't know that sometimes being passive is also a choice.
Liu Cheng was the only one left in the office. He could tell that as Jiafeng grew, interest groups had formed in various departments. The senior management was still harmonious, but the people below were urging them to fight for greater benefits. In addition, Lu Feng no longer had actual management power over the group. No one knew whether the ship would fly into space or collapse from the inside and sink to the bottom of the sea.
