Over the past six months, Liu Cheng has noticed that the teams brought in by foreign capital have been constantly trying to win over the management team. Some of the foreign team leaders have even openly said at dinner parties that only when the company enters a professional operation phase can it achieve stable profitability.
This so-called professional operation is essentially decentralization, dividing all positions within the company, hiring professional managers at the top management level, and having the board of directors decide on the direction of development. This is the operating model of large international corporations.
Under this model, the entire group would become employees of the board of directors, and individual abilities would be greatly weakened. Most importantly, Liu Cheng believed that this would diminish Lu Feng's influence within the group.
Lu Feng looked at him, clearly aware that everyone was familiar with the current state of the company, and said, "What good will coming back do? Just focus on your own work and don't think too much about other things. Who told you all this?"
“I’m not stupid. I’m this old, and I’ve been in the corporate world for half my life. I know all the tricks of the trade, I just don’t want to do it that way. I talked to a few senior executives yesterday and found a lot of problems. A month ago, there was a management training session in the group, and I went to listen in. It was about these very issues.” Liu Cheng sighed, looking quite helpless. “In addition, I sometimes talk about it with Zhu Lidong and Du Guoying over meals. Everyone is worried about the changes in the company now.”
Liu Cheng told Lu Feng all the ideas of those executives.
Lu Feng lit a cigarette and looked at Liu Cheng, saying, "Every period has its own difficulties. Without these funds, the R&D company wouldn't be progressing so smoothly. Don't worry too much, I'll handle it. As for the new company, I'm thinking the group will hold a portion, the other party's technical team will hold a portion, and I'll personally contribute some money for a portion. This Mr. Zhang is a formidable figure; you should learn from him."
"I'll definitely ask you for advice then. That's all there is to it internally. Everything else is fine. Can we apply for the patent now?" Liu Cheng asked.
"That's what I came to tell you today. Hurry up and apply for global technology patents and announce them to the public. The mobile phone should also be announced to the public." Lu Feng took a puff of his cigarette and said, "After being silent for so long, it's time to give them a little stimulation."
In the morning, Lu Feng attended a meeting at the R&D company to learn about the current situation within the company. He focused on listening to opinions from various parties regarding the use of the R&D budget, overseas talent reserves, and the progress of major core projects.
The meeting was chaired by Liu Cheng. Lu Feng, due to his status, simply sat and listened. They had lunch together, and in the afternoon, Lu Feng planned to go to the group headquarters. He asked Liu Cheng to call the rotating president in advance and tell him that he was going to conduct research and investigation.
At the dinner table, Liu Cheng said with considerable dissatisfaction, "You have to use the excuse of 'inspection' to go back to your own company? Why don't you just go directly?"
“Following the rules is very important. Don’t leave any room for criticism.” Seeing his puzzled look, Lu Feng said while eating, “This is a personal conversation with you. The next two years will be a time of fierce competition. Giving a phone call in advance will prevent anyone from finding fault.”
"Alright!" Liu Cheng sighed.
When the call was made, Wei Yandan, the rotating president, was also taken aback and hurriedly called Liu Cheng's personal cell phone.
"Hello!"
"President Liu, it's me, Wei Yandan. Is President Lu with you?" Wei Yandan asked, somewhat puzzled, "Why did you call me to say you'd like to come over for an inspection?"
"President Lu just wanted to go and take a look, to ask about some work-related matters. He's no longer in a management position, so he just wanted to let you know so he could go and take a look," Liu Cheng replied.
"What's going on? Is something wrong with the board of directors?" Wei Yandan asked, her voice unconsciously lowering.
Liu Cheng looked up at Lu Feng and said, "No, it's just a regular reception, you can make the arrangements."
At 1:30 p.m., Lu Feng left the R&D company by car and arrived at the group headquarters half an hour later. The security guards at the gate were standing in two rows. A red carpet was laid out at the gate, and a ladder was being used to hang a banner. As soon as Lu Feng's car stopped, a Toyota sedan pulled up behind him.
Lu Feng got out of the car and looked at the people hanging the banner, saying, "Alright, stop hanging it, take it down."
The person who hung the banner turned around and glanced at Lu Feng, saying irritably, "The big leader is coming, what do you know? Get out of the way, or you'll bump into something."
The car door behind opened, and Du Guoying stepped out in a suit. He looked much more mature than he had in the past six months, and now looked more like a leader.
"President Lu?" Du Guoying hurriedly ran over and said, "You said you were coming, so why are you making such a fuss about inspections? I'll go up with you."
Lu Feng looked him over and asked, "Are you late?"
"How could that be? I was just about to pick you up. I just bought a car." Du Guoying grinned and crossed his eyes, praising the car. The two then went upstairs.
"How are pagers doing this year?" Lu Feng asked as he walked.
"The market continues to expand, and at a rapid pace. In the first half of the year, the market grew by more than 50%. However, despite this high growth, there are signs of weakness. This high growth is achieved through price advantages. Starting this year, the sales of manufacturers such as Sony and Motorola have been drastically reduced. Market prices are generally below 2,000 yuan, and users' perceived value has decreased. This is due to the limitations of pagers themselves, as well as the pressure from mobile phones. This year, mobile phone prices have decreased, and even the old-fashioned mobile phones are almost obsolete. Through market research, we believe that with the development of mobile phones, card-operated phone booths, and public telephones, the future of pagers is rather bleak."
