The three of them went downstairs, and a car happened to be parked at the door. President Liang took two steps at a time, went forward and opened the car door, and welcomed Zhang Zhongmou out. Zhang Rujing was also sitting in the back seat.
Zhang Rujing stepped down and looked at Lu Feng, introducing him: "Mr. Zhang, this is Mr. Kuntai."
"Sawasdee ka!" Lu Feng stepped forward and clasped his hands together.
Zhang Zhongmou was taken aback when he saw Lu Feng's attire. He returned the greeting and asked, "You can speak Chinese?"
"I can speak it, but I have a bit of an accent. My dad's second wife is Chinese," Lu Feng explained.
"Very good, very good. How did you feel after visiting our factory?" Zhang Zhongmou asked.
"Very good, the equipment is very advanced, and I believe the products are world-class as well. We really came to the right place this time," Lu Feng praised.
Zhang Zhongmou laughed and looked at Zhang Rujing, saying, "President Zhang still helps his friends. We just assembled our finished product line this year. Not only is the product quality world-class, but the price of the first batch of products will definitely be lower than others. Such a good thing has fallen into your lap. You'll have to thank President Zhang properly later."
"If a cooperation is reached, a dinner party will definitely be necessary," Lu Feng replied, making small talk.
The two chatted for a bit before heading upstairs. As they went up, Zhang Zhongmou inquired about Lu Feng, asking where he was from and who his father was, subtly probing for information.
Lu Feng had already sensed that this was a test, and that they were indeed suspicious of his identity. Fortunately, he had a plan in mind, so he didn't panic.
After everyone finally settled down, a pretty young woman started making tea. Zhang Zhongmou, sitting in the main seat, looked at Lu Feng and asked, "You studied in the United States, but I went abroad to study quite early. May I ask which university you attended?"
“New York University!” Lu Feng replied.
Zhang Zhongmou nodded slightly, then suddenly switched to English and asked, "How is New York University?"
Lu Feng was stunned by his sudden change in language for a good ten seconds. During those ten seconds, Lu Feng was quickly thinking about what the other person wanted to know. It could not possibly be his evaluation of New York University. Lu Feng suddenly realized that it was his accent!
“It’s pretty good, after all, my dad spent a lot of money on both living expenses and education.” Lu Feng shrugged and said in his New York-accented English, “You should know a little about this school. I wanted to go to an Ivy League school later, but I was rejected.”
“Your spoken English is a bit rusty,” Zhang Zhongmou joked. “It’s not as good as mine. I’ve lived in New York for half my life.”
Zhang Rujing, who was standing nearby, realized what was going on and chimed in, "He's already at NYU, it's quite remarkable that he speaks such fluent English."
"I can't compare to you, but I don't just eat, drink, and have fun all day. I've been to many prestigious universities for exchanges, such as Ivy League schools and MIT." Lu Feng seemed to have found his rhythm in English, and spoke a little more fluently.
"Oh? What do you think of the environment at MIT?" Zhang Zhongmou asked.
"That's certainly excellent, especially the sports field..." Lu Feng said, describing his impressions of MIT, highlighting some of the more prominent features.
Zhang Zhongmou graduated from MIT and is now a member of MIT's board of directors. Some of the things Lu Feng said are indeed the situation at MIT. At the very least, this person has actually been there. As for New York University, Zhang Zhongmou doesn't know much, but many of the things Lu Feng said are accurate.
His thorough knowledge of the schools in New York was thanks to Lu Feng's lectures at various universities in the United States, which helped him attract students majoring in integrated circuits.
“I have to admit, I’m really getting old. Young people these days are getting more and more impressive. Back when I founded TSMC, I was scrambling to raise money, and now you can come up with hundreds of millions of US dollars. I’m ashamed of myself.” Zhang Zhongmou looked Lu Feng up and down and asked, “I suppose your father is quite a prominent figure in Thailand.”
"Do you know Sompha in Thailand?" Lu Feng asked him.
The people present murmured among themselves. They really didn't know anything about the rubber industry. It's like being in a completely different world; they had never heard of this person before.
“I’ve heard of him before, I think I saw it in the Wall Street Journal.” Zhang Zhongmou recalled for a while and said, “It was about two years ago? I can’t remember clearly, I didn’t expect him to be the son of Songpa.”
Lu Feng was extremely displeased upon hearing this. How did he become Songpa's son? He quickly said, "No, Songpa is my uncle. Our family's business is nothing compared to my uncle's."
Sipping tea and chatting idly, the atmosphere was quite pleasant. People tend to relax more easily in this kind of environment and unconsciously reveal their true feelings. Lu Feng's fabricated background was quite detailed: his grandmother and maternal grandmother were both Chinese, and he didn't look like an Akha person. He grew up in Thailand, went to the United States to study, and returned to make a name for himself. He met Zhang Rujing through a few friends, and came here with a try-it-out mentality.
After some probing, the topic finally returned to product pricing. Seeing that the conversation had gotten to the point, General Manager Liang chimed in, "Chairman, I think Mr. Kuntai is young but very ambitious. We should help such a young man. Besides, if Mr. Kuntai succeeds, we will have another strong partner."
