For the first time, Feng Zhiyao felt that there could be such an unreasonable person in the world. The most shameless person he had ever met in his life was Lu Feng. In the past, these small fry were always all smiles in front of him.
Feng Zhiyao was out of money. He sat in the hotel and contacted his old friends, hoping someone could help him out. When he made the calls, some people hung up immediately when they heard it was him, while others stammered and made excuses.
"I'm not borrowing much money from you, it's just 200,000, is it really that big of a deal?" Feng Zhiyao said angrily into the phone. When did 200,000 become a significant sum of money for him?
"Brother Feng, you're not short of 200,000, are you?" he said with a laugh on the phone that day. "Don't be silly."
"I've run into some trouble right now." Feng Zhiyao was straightforward and spilled everything out like beans from a bamboo tube.
Upon hearing this, the person on the other end of the phone said, "Don't worry, if others won't help you, I definitely will. I have some things to do here, so I'll hang up now."
Before Feng Zhiyao could speak, the call was disconnected, and when he called back, no one answered.
The room fee was due, and Feng Zhiyao couldn't borrow any money, so he took his belongings and went downstairs. Standing in the lobby, he watched people coming and going, each with a smile on their face, so composed. But he didn't know where to go next.
He had been to five-star hotels countless times, but he had never felt such a cold and bewildering atmosphere in a luxurious reception hall.
"Oh my, isn't this Young Master Feng?" a teasing voice rang out.
Feng Zhiyao looked in the direction of the voice and saw a young man in his late twenties with two flashy girls by his side. Feng Zhiyao had a vague memory of him; they used to drive sports cars together, but he couldn't afford any particularly luxurious cars and didn't like to take him out for rides.
"Li Ziwen?" Feng Zhiyao called out his name with a hint of surprise.
"It's rare that you still remember me." Li Ziwen glanced at Feng Zhiyao's suitcase and teased, "Where are you going, Young Master Feng? I heard you've fallen on hard times? Someone called me and said you're borrowing money everywhere?"
Feng Zhiyao's expression turned slightly embarrassed, but he forced a smile and said, "The news spread pretty fast. I didn't expect you to have heard about it too. We're friends, so do you have any cash on hand?"
"What? You want to borrow money from me? Hahahaha!" Li Zixuan laughed wildly, staring at Feng Zhiyao and said, "So, Young Master Feng, you've finally met your match? Didn't you used to look down on me for being poor? I can't afford a Lamborghini, so how could I dare to hang out with a rich kid like you?"
Feng Zhiyao was taken aback when he heard this, and hurriedly said, "I never thought you were poor. It's just that your car can't keep up with us on the mountain. Later, when we went to the track and stuff, we asked you to come. You were busy and didn't have time."
"Busy? How can I be so busy?" Li Ziwen leaned closer and said, "I'm not fucking busy now, so bring out your sports car!"
"I... well..." Feng Zhiyao explained his current situation very seriously.
"Alright, alright, I don't have time for your nonsense. You want money, right?" Li Ziwen took out his wallet, pulled out a thousand Hong Kong dollars, and casually threw it on the ground, saying, "Here you go!"
Feng Zhiyao looked at the banknotes lying at his feet with a very ugly expression, feeling extremely ashamed and indignant. He said to Li Ziwen, "I didn't expect you to be this kind of person. You have no upbringing and no manners. Take it."
"Oh, a beggar complaining about spoiled food? You're so classy, you used to drive a sports car and show off like that a few years ago," Li Ziwen mocked.
"When did I ever act arrogantly?" Feng Zhiyao felt extremely wronged. He had always maintained a low profile and humility in his interactions with his friends.
"Aren't you going to swagger around? Everyone's fawning over you, all smiles when they see you. That so-called luxury car team is just a bunch of sycophants. You have such a nice car, but you drive it like a pile of crap. I really don't know how you have the nerve to think you're talented, and that they want to be race car drivers? Bah!" Li Ziwen went all out, mocking, "Look at yourself, without your dad, what are you?"
"You!! How can you talk like that? Take it or leave it!" Feng Zhiyao's face turned ugly, and he turned and left.
Feng Zhiyao couldn't believe that his friend, who had once spoken so kindly to him, now had this kind of face. He dragged his suitcase along the road, feeling a pang of sadness. He hadn't changed his clothes all day, and after walking for an hour, his feet started to ache.
The physical torment, coupled with his current predicament, made him sit by the roadside with tears in his eyes. Recalling the past, it seemed as if those experiences, those smiling faces, and those acts of care were all like a dream.
A red sports car turned the corner at the intersection. Su Yourong glanced out casually and saw Feng Zhiyao. Thinking she was seeing things, she parked the car on the side of the road, got out, and realized it really was him.
"What are you doing sitting by the roadside?" Su Yourong asked as she walked over.
Upon seeing Su Yourong, Feng Zhiyao hurriedly stood up and explained the situation, urgently saying, "Could you help me call Brother Feng? I don't even have a cell phone right now."
Seeing his state, Su Yourong thought to herself, "Calling Lu Feng is fine, he's just a pawn to be discarded."
“I can’t get in touch with him either. Take care of yourself. Here’s some change I have.” Su Yourong handed him the several thousand yuan in her hand and instructed, “Find a job as soon as possible.”
Looking at the money in his hand, Feng Zhiyao realized for the first time how thick a stack of several thousand dollars was. It was already late, and the city lights were just coming on. Hong Kong was still bustling, but unfortunately, Feng Zhiyao's feelings about it all had turned from heaven to hell.
He dared not go to a luxurious restaurant, and for the first time in his life, he went into a hole-in-the-wall restaurant and ordered a plate of fried rice, which he wolfed down.
