Chapter 1223 I Will Be Back

“This child is almost a year old, where is he? If he had any conscience, he wouldn’t have given you two stinking coins and left you here unattended. And you, you’re too weak-willed. You can’t come in person, you can’t even make a phone call! This child is about to start talking, calling for his mother, but he can’t find his father!” Fengxia’s mother shouted on the phone.

“I already told you, he’s very busy, and I don’t want to bother him at a time like this. Besides, he has a lot on his plate and can’t come here,” Zhang Fengxia said, her head down.

"Busy, he's as busy as the governor of the world. It's just running a company, why is he so busy? If you ask me, you should just go back to China. Didn't he say he'd bring his private jet to take you back? Tell him to send one!" Fengxia's mother said discontentedly.

"The gas money for a round trip is quite high!" Zhang Fengxia said casually.

"You! Ugh, who do you look like? How did I give birth to such a thing? You're supposed to save other people money on gas? You should take better care of yourself. I'm such a young woman, and I'm embarrassed to even mention it when people ask. I feel so ashamed!"

The voice on the phone was too loud, and the child suddenly started crying. Zhang Fengxia hurriedly went over, picked her up, and comforted her, "Oh, don't cry, don't cry. Grandma wasn't scolding Miaomiao."

“You’re not going to call him, are you? I’ll call him!” Fengxia’s mother said and hung up the phone.

After calming the child down, Zhang Fengxia sat on the bed with a somewhat forlorn expression. He hadn't called her in a long time. Even if he was busy, surely he had time to make a phone call?

Even if he doesn't care about himself, does he not care about his child?

The next day, Lu Feng barely woke up at nine o'clock in the morning. He ate a quick bite, and 1996 was over just like that. Lu Feng didn't have time to reminisce about it. He went to the company for a meeting today. Last night, John informed Goodley that they would be discussing the original plan submitted by Wei Yandan.

Just as he got into the car, before they even left, Lu Feng's phone rang. It was only in this villa area that he could get a signal; outside of this area, there might not be one. There were two cell towers installed in this community, which he guessed was a company perk.

"Hello, who is this?" Lu Feng answered the phone.

"It's me, Lu Feng. It's 1997 already. When are you planning to marry Fengxia? How can you do this? You just leave her there for half a year at a time without even a phone call? Are you even human?" The harsh anger on the other end of the phone was almost bursting out of the phone.

"I've been really busy lately and forgot about it. I'm so sorry!" Lu Feng apologized repeatedly.

"Then give me a time, when are you going to marry me?"

"I will definitely give Fengxia an explanation after I finish handling things. You can rest assured about this matter, because we are at a critical moment right now. The company is about to be split up, and we are also going to Hong Kong..."

“I don’t want to hear your nonsense. Since you keep putting it off, I’ll give you a date: the wedding will be held before June this year.” Fengxia’s mother set the date.

"This matter is still up to the two of us..."

The person on the other end of the phone clearly didn't want to argue with Lu Feng anymore and hung up while cursing.

Lu Feng took a deep breath in the driver's seat, wanting to call Zhang Fengxia, but after checking the time difference, he figured she was probably already asleep.

Feeling a bit irritable, I gathered my thoughts and drove to the company.

In the conference room of the group headquarters, Goodley led a team in. During this period, they had thoroughly investigated the company. The management team that Lu Feng had previously dismissed had been recruited by a new company that Goodley had opened outside.

He was then rehired through external employment, meaning that Lu Feng had completely lost control of Jiafeng Group. This was evident from the way everyone who joined the company perceived Lu Feng's current state.

"Mr. Lu, it's been a long time. You probably won't be able to attend this year's board meeting. You haven't shown your face since you stole the company seal last time. You've been hiding at home quite well!" Goodley said provocatively.

"Not bad, I took care of a few small things." Lu Feng asked Wei Yandan, "Hasn't Vice Mayor Liu arrived yet?"

"It should be soon!"

"Where's that arrogance of yours, Mr. Lu? I still prefer your original, unruly self," Goodley continued to provoke.

"Are you here to negotiate or to sit on the bench?" Lu Feng stared at him and said, "I don't want to lower myself to your level. If you think you can outmaneuver me on this land, then let's not talk today. I believe that after tonight, John will send a more compliant person."

Goodley's expression held a hint of fear. After all, this was a foreign land to him, and dying far from home was not a good outcome.

After waiting a few minutes, Vice Mayor Liu walked in with two people, and after everyone was seated, the negotiations officially began.

The issues regarding patent rights were resolved, and neither party had major objections. There were also no major issues regarding factory buildings, land, debts, and funds. A lawyer was called in to speak on the legal aspects. In summary, there were only two areas of contention.

"We request the return of the private jet that Mr. John, representing Schroders Investment Group, gifted to us at a board meeting in December 1995. The private jet was a conditional gift, the key condition being the group's performance in 1996."

“We have always been lenient with our partners. If Mr. Lu continues to work for the company, we can relax the terms of the gift. However, now that we have chosen to part ways, the private jet needs to be returned.”

"Another issue is that the group headquarters approves and allocates the R&D company's budget in batches each year for the development of new products. The first draft of the R&D company's budget clearly states that it is $500 million per year. Mr. Lu violated regulations by distributing $1.5 billion to the R&D company in three batches within the same year. We demand that the R&D company return the 1997 budget, which is $570 million!"
