Duoduo is not a three-year-old child; she has her own thoughts. Lu Feng's 'high emotional intelligence' answer did not satisfy her. It is said that parents are the best teachers for their children, and this is absolutely true.
To avoid further awkwardness, Lu Feng suggested turning back. It was already midnight, and fireworks instantly filled the night sky. Lu Feng stopped to admire the dazzling display that erupted from the large villa area in front of him for a moment.
"Let's go back!"
At midnight, the house was bustling with noise and neighbors exchanging New Year's greetings. The phone kept ringing, as phone calls to wish each other a Happy New Year had become the norm. Although it's not like the 1980s anymore, with all the lines busy, it's still sometimes hard to get through.
The noise didn't subside until after 2 a.m., and all the lights in the house remained on all night until dawn.
For Su Yourong, holidays were not a happy occasion. The rumors circulating before the New Year did not affect Lu Feng at all. He had originally planned to go back to his hometown for the New Year, but it would be inconvenient to bring the child along, and he would also be subject to gossip when he returned to his hometown.
It's not like many years later, where as long as you have money, even if you're a single mother, people will flock around you. In rural areas, no matter how much money you have, if you get pregnant out of wedlock, you'll be called a prostitute.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Su Yourong booked a luxury cabin ticket back to Shenzhen. She boarded the ship with her child, planning to visit Lu Feng to wish him a Happy New Year and ask for a big red envelope for her child.
Before setting off, Su Yourong called Jiang Xiaoyan to tell her what time she would arrive at the port and if it was convenient, she could send a car to pick her up. Jiang Xiaoyan was somewhat resistant to her sudden visit, but when she thought about how pitiful it was for a woman with a child to be stuck in a foreign land during the Spring Festival, she realized that Su Yourong was a woman alone.
Jiang Xiaoyan agreed and told Zhang Fengxia about it. Although Zhang Fengxia was not entirely in agreement, she still took care of Jiang Xiaoyan.
At 9:30 a.m., as the ferry docked, two Mercedes-Benz cars were already waiting at the shore. Su Yourong got into the car directly after exiting the shore and was home by 10 a.m.
As soon as she entered the house, Su Yourong adopted a much more humble attitude than before. When she saw Jiang Xiaoyan, she smiled, took two steps forward, grabbed her hand, and said affectionately, "You look better and better over the New Year. This outfit suits you very well. I saw a similar one in Europe before, and I thought it would suit you better."
"I just bought something casually. There's not much point in celebrating the New Year these days; it's just for the kids." Jiang Xiaoyan said politely, "Come in, where's the child?"
"The child is in the back, being looked after by the nanny. Where's Duoduo?" Su Yourong asked, glancing around the room.
“They’re upstairs. Bring the child in too, it’s cold outside,” Zhang Fengxia said.
As Lu Jiaren was brought in, Zhang Fengxia and Jiang Xiaoyan offered a few polite compliments and each gave the child a large red envelope. After Duoduo came downstairs, she saw Su Yourong running over and sweetly greeted her.
"Here, Auntie will give you a big red envelope. You'll definitely get into the best high school this year." Su Yourong took out two checks from her pocket and handed them to Duoduo and Miaomiao respectively, saying, "Ten million each!"
"Isn't this too much?" Jiang Xiaoyan hurriedly said, "A New Year's red envelope of ten or eight thousand is enough as a token, this is too much."
“Yes, they’re still just kids. It’s not appropriate to spend so much money!” Zhang Fengxia hurriedly added from the side.
"This money is for the two children; it's their first start-up capital. Please accept it; it's just a small token of my appreciation. Your Aunt Su can't afford to give any more," Su Yourong said to Duoduo.
Duoduo looked at the money in her hand and wanted to be polite, but with so much money, she really couldn't be polite. With a smile, she bowed and said, "Thank you, Aunt Su!"
Jiang Xiaoyan glared at Duoduo, telling her to return the check, but she couldn't lash out in front of Su Yourong.
"This is far too expensive. I'll go and re-wrap the child." Jiang Xiaoyan said, about to stand up to write a check, but Su Yourong grabbed her and hurriedly said, "Don't be so polite. We're not here to exchange money."
As the saying goes, one cannot hit a smiling face, especially since Su Yourong brought two such generous gifts when she came to visit. The three of them sat on the sofa and chatted idly, consciously avoiding the topic of Lu Feng and mostly talking about cosmetics and various things related to the New Year.
Jiang Xiaoyan originally thought that she would only stay for a short while and then leave. On the phone, Su Yourong said that she was going back to her hometown from Shenzhen. They chatted until 11 a.m. and she didn't see that the other party had any intention of leaving.
Lu Feng woke up around 11 a.m., washed up on the second floor, and was taken aback when he came downstairs and saw Su Yourong. His expression was somewhat unpleasant.
"You're awake?" Su Yourong asked with a smile.
"She's here to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and she'll be heading back to her hometown soon," Jiang Xiaoyan hurriedly mentioned.
"Oh, by the way, I saw a suit when I was shopping at the mall, and I thought it would fit you perfectly, so I bought it for you as a New Year's gift." Su Yourong asked the nanny to take a clothing bag out from under the stroller.
"I won't wear it. I don't want to be angry with you during the New Year. Get out of here!" Lu Feng said in a deep voice.
Su Yourong looked somewhat aggrieved and said, "I won't force you to wear it. It's come to this, and I have nothing to say. I can raise the child to adulthood on my own. But the child is innocent. I came here today simply to put an end to this thought. If you say that no matter how I change, you will not accept me and this child, I will never bother you again."
“I know you look down on me. I’m not Jiang Xiaoyan, who has been with you since your humble beginnings. I’m not some rich young lady from an official family. I’ve struggled to get to where I am today, and I’m quite satisfied with myself. This year, I felt heartbroken. I just felt so lonely. On New Year’s Eve, my child kept crying. I was holding my child and thinking, what sins have I committed to deserve such loneliness?”
