A dozen or so cars headed towards the western suburbs in a grand procession, attracting considerable attention on the road.
The car veered further and further off course, and Lu Feng felt increasingly unsafe looking at the surrounding woods. He glanced back and noticed that more and more cars were following them. He asked, "How many of us are behind us?"
"It seems we've lost track of our car."
"I also feel like I've lost them; I haven't seen them for a while."
Lu Feng exchanged glances with the group, and they all fell silent. One of the plainclothes officers said, "Drive faster, don't let them catch up. If it gets too dangerous, just take a detour and go back!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than a car sped past him, blocking his path and slamming on its brakes.
With a sudden stop, cars on both sides also came to a halt. Lu Feng, speechless at the situation, asked, "Are you all this unreliable when you do things?"
"It's normal to lose track of them!"
Lu Feng sighed. Without navigation now, it was normal to lose track of them after driving around the suburbs for a while.
A gaunt man knocked on the car window and said, "Mr. Lu, get out of the car. Where are you going?"
"Let me tell you, I suggest you don't do anything rash before your boss arrives," Lu Feng said from inside the car.
"What should we do? We're not on a mission, we don't have a gun!" the plainclothes officer in the passenger seat whispered.
"Let's wait a little longer. Maybe they'll catch up soon. Let's delay them for a while!" the plainclothes officer behind said, glancing around.
A short while later, Ke Bing and his group's car stopped behind them. The car door opened, and Ke Bing got out, holding a cigar in his hand, looking quite like a godfather. He walked to Lu Feng's car and tapped on the window.
"Mr. Lu, it's been a long time!"
"It won't be long!" Lu Feng knew he couldn't avoid it any longer, so he got out of the car. If all else failed, he could just run into the woods. Three plainclothes officers stood beside him.
"Where are you going? Not so smug anymore? Weren't you going to save me? You almost scared me to death by making me prepare the account books, you know?" Ke Bing smiled, but it was a forced smile. He gestured with his cigar in front of Lu Feng and even slapped Lu Feng's face. He was incredibly arrogant.
"So what does President Ke want?" Lu Feng asked, staring at him.
"What do you want? Weren't you very arrogant the other day? Huh?" Ke Bing's face was ferocious as he grabbed Lu Feng's chin and pressed him against the car, yelling, "Keep being arrogant, give me a chance, do you really think I'm stupid? Believe me or not, I'll chop you up right now!"
“I believe you have the ability,” Lu Feng replied.
"Don't you have an account book? Come on, take it out and let me see. If you can't take it out today, I'll break your limbs and throw you into the mountains to feed the wild animals!" Ke Bing reached out to grab Lu Feng's hair, and the plainclothes officer next to him couldn't stand it anymore and reached out to stop him.
"What are you doing? Try moving!"
In an instant, dozens of people surrounded them, armed with sticks and clubs, and were already close enough that the three dared not make a move.
"Damn it! Do you know how much I've been scolded lately? My boss called and cursed my ancestors for eighteen generations!" Ke Bing spat on the ground, grabbed Lu Feng's hair, and slammed him into the car. Lu Feng tried to resist, but the knife was right in front of him. In this situation, if anything went wrong, the other party would definitely stab him three times and leave him with six eyes.
Lu Feng's head throbbed with pain, and he was furious. He cursed He Jiale's entire family in his heart. They were truly remarkable for losing track of a car.
"Mr. Lu, you are indeed a talented young man, but it's a pity. Choosing the wrong side comes at a price." He Jiale took a puff of his cigar, took a step back, sized up Lu Feng, and sneered, "Send him on his way!"
As soon as he finished speaking, seven or eight police cars sped out from the path through the woods in the distance. This sudden appearance startled everyone, and those on the outermost edge instinctively ran into the woods.
The car stopped, the door opened, and a squad of armed police rushed out, brandishing their weapons and shouting, "Don't move!"
"Everyone, raise your hands!"
"Don't move! Crouch down right there, or I'll shoot!"
Ke Bing was startled by the sudden attack and didn't know what to do. Everyone else crouched down in front of the dark gun barrel, but Ke Bing stood there calmly. Even if he was arrested today, he could be released tomorrow.
"Lu Feng, you don't actually think you can get me in here for something this simple, do you?" Ke Bing sneered, "Don't be so naive."
“I’m not being naive, there’s just something I haven’t told you yet. I’ve found the ledger again,” Lu Feng said softly, looking at him.
Lu Feng's voice wasn't loud, but it sounded like a thunderclap to Ke Bing's ears. His face turned pale instantly, and he shook his head in disbelief, saying, "Impossible! That Bai Meihua next to you said you don't have any ledgers. You're bluffing me!!"
"I didn't have it back then, I got it this afternoon, there's no need for me to lie to you!" Lu Feng took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and said, "You're hopeless!"
Ke Bing's legs went weak, and he knelt down in front of Lu Feng with a thud. After thinking for a moment, as if he had grasped a lifeline, he said, "I have the account book. You won't dare to do anything to me. I have a lot of dirt on people."
Hearing that he still pinned his hopes on this matter, Lu Feng squatted down, took a puff of his cigarette, patted his face, and whispered, "Let me tell you something else. I guess only you and that leader will get into trouble this time. Everyone else will be fine. Too many people are involved. This is the perfect opportunity for them to establish their authority. You're just cannon fodder!"
Ke Bing's eyes were filled with despair. He couldn't believe that his hard work over half his life had come to this. He panicked completely and grabbed Lu Feng's leg, saying, "You have a good relationship with He Jiale. Please plead for me. I can be a witness for the prosecution. I will report you. I will expose you. President Lu, Master Lu, my dear father, I was wrong..."
Lu Feng stood up and tried to shake him off, but Ke Bing clung tightly to his leg. Lu Feng got annoyed, kicked him away, and said coldly, "He's just a pawn on the chessboard. You have no right to say such things."
