There's still a lot of work to do before the New Year, including various scheduling tasks at the factory and preparations for the holidays. Fortunately, Lu Feng doesn't have to worry about it. Back when he worked at Jiaming Foods, there were some things that Lu Feng had to arrange personally.
The only advantage of a large company and a large team is that you don't have to handle many things personally.
It was past 10 p.m. when they got home. The living room was piled with things, with gift bags of all sizes stacked up like a small mountain. Duoduo sat to the side, rummaging for food. Jiang Xiaoyan would occasionally scold her and tell her to go to sleep.
"You're back. Have you eaten?" Jiang Xiaoyan looked up and asked.
"I haven't eaten, I'm not hungry, why did you buy so much stuff?" Lu Feng looked at the huge pile of things and said, "We can't possibly transport all of this back."
"I bought clothes for your parents, and some 'Dacron' fabric. I also bought clothes for my parents, brother, sister-in-law, and sister, and some southern pastries. If I could take them back, I would have bought some more." Jiang Xiaoyan said, looking down and marking up each item on the list.
"Don't take anything you can buy over there." Lu Feng sat down and poured himself a glass of water.
"Have you taken care of everything at the company? I saw in the newspaper recently that something seems to have happened at the company again?" Jiang Xiaoyan asked.
“When is my company ever not busy? Newspaper reports show that the company is thriving and receiving attention. Let’s leave a day early, go to Suzhou, and go back to wish Huang Youwei a Happy New Year.”
"Let's change the ticket then. Go take a shower; you smell all sweaty. Try on the clothes you bought today later." Jiang Xiaoyan glanced at Lu Feng and said, "Why do you look like you've gained weight again?"
“It’s normal to gain weight, your wife takes good care of you,” Lu Feng said, standing up.
"All you do is talk!" Jiang Xiaoyan rolled her eyes at him and continued checking the goods.
After Lu Feng finished washing up, he came out to try on clothes. Jiang Xiaoyan bought him a black leather jacket with fur around the neck, a popular style this year.
I also bought a pair of corduroy pants to match a pair of dark yellow chunky leather shoes, a super trendy style this winter. All I need is a fluffy hairstyle.
"How about it? Stylish, right? You're wearing a wool vest underneath, you look like a leader." Jiang Xiaoyan was pleased with her own taste, admiring her man at that moment.
Lu Feng stood in front of the mirror and spun around, muttering, "It has that old photo vibe."
"What photo?"
"That's too old-fashioned. I'm still so young!" Lu Feng said, taking off his leather jacket. "I have nothing to do tomorrow, I'll go out and buy it myself."
“You’re not happy about the clothes I buy for you? What do you want to wear? These are genuine leather, very expensive. I only buy them for you. And your leather shoes are from a Wenzhou shoe factory.” Jiang Xiaoyan pointed to the leather shoes.
Lu Feng shook his head, muttering to himself, "Maybe it's still from Huanghe Factory."
"I think it looks great. What do you want to wear?"
Lu Feng has always worn suits for so long, mainly because in this day and age, women have so many different kinds of clothes, like overalls, long skirts, jeans, and all sorts of styles, such as Hong Kong style, Taiwan style, and so on. Men, on the other hand, wear leather jackets.
"I'll go check it out later and see if they have any casual pants, sneakers, or anything like that," Lu Feng said as he sat down.
"The kind that's loose and baggy?"
“Yes, casual pants, a sweatshirt on top, a bright color, and I’ll fix my hair, so I’ll look younger.” Lu Feng still wanted to emulate the trends of young people thirty years from now, as he found it difficult to integrate into the thoughts and trends of this era.
"Are you talking about a decent person? Isn't this what hooligans wear? They're all slacking off, riding around on bicycles with stereos on the back." Jiang Xiaoyan sat down with a helpless expression.
A good-for-nothing?
Thinking about it, it makes sense. These days, the main thing is to be upright. If you're a little casual or slouchy, you'll be seen as someone who doesn't stand or sit properly, and that's what makes you a good-for-nothing.
“Everyone else wears leather jackets, but you don’t. You have no idea how happy the men in the village are to have a leather jacket. They polish it every night before bed. My dad has a pair of leather shoes that he takes very good care of.” Jiang Xiaoyan muttered to herself as she sat there.
Lu Feng didn't listen. He put on the clothes and felt like he was in his thirties or forties. Who wouldn't want to look younger?
"So be it, he's a good-for-nothing."
After Lu Feng finished speaking, he stood up and went upstairs.
The next day, the family of three went shopping at the mall, and it has to be said that it's really hard to buy sneakers, casual pants, hoodies, and down jackets these days.
The mall was mostly filled with leather jackets, and the so-called new styles had a strong contemporary feel. This was in Shenzhen, and if you couldn't find them here, you'd probably have trouble buying them anywhere else in the country.
After shopping all day, Lu Feng bought a pair of Reebok sneakers. This store had only recently opened; it was a century-old, gentlemanly brand.
I bought a light blue sweatpants; I can wear a pair of long underwear underneath. I have quite a few hoodies, including a red one. Down jackets are hard to find in the south; after searching for a while, I bought a thin one, which will do.
Back home, Lu Feng put on the outfit and was quite satisfied with it, but Jiang Xiaoyan almost burst out laughing. Lu Feng's current attire made him look like a high-class hooligan.
It's all so colorful and gaudy, who would dress like that? It's not serious at all!
Seeing her so happy, Lu Feng couldn't help but laugh too. Perhaps this was the difference between the two of them; the difference in their thinking over the past thirty years was far more than just this.
As the saying goes, a play in the city makes the villagers laugh until their hearts break.
Over the next few days, after tidying up the house, Jiang Xiaoyan continued to persuade Lu Feng to wear a leather jacket, while Lu Feng felt that Jiang Xiaoyan should also dress in bright colors and look younger.
Unable to reach an agreement, the two decided to each wear their own clothes.
January 17th arrived in the blink of an eye. The family of three, carrying large and small bags, went to the airport to fly to Suzhou. Meanwhile, the Lu and Jiang families, thousands of miles away, had already begun preparations.
