The group chatted by the roadside for over an hour, trying to establish connections. Some of them weren't even relatives; they were just trying to find Lu Feng a job for their sons or grandsons through relatives.
They entered the house amidst the commotion, but more than half of the people had already left. Jiang Xiaoyan quietly told Lu Feng that their wedding day wasn't nearly as lively as this.
Looking at her daughter, Song Xuemei said to Lu Feng's mother, "Xiaoyan is a boss now, with her own factory. Xiaoyan is educated, and she can learn some things at a glance."
"It's good to have something to do; it's better than being at home," said Lu Feng's mother.
“My sister’s factory makes a lot of money,” Jiang Xiaohong said.
"How much money I can earn depends mainly on Lu Feng." Jiang Xiaoyan looked at Jiang Xiaohong, whose belly was already quite large, and asked, "Six months along, right?"
"Yes, I gave birth in the summer," Jiang Xiaohong said happily.
"Have you taken a picture yet? Is it a boy or a girl?" Jiang Xiaoyan looked at her younger sister's belly with a hint of longing in her eyes.
“These days, even big hospitals won’t tell you. They’re so tight-lipped. I had to give them a red envelope before they told me it was a boy!” Xie Heng said, taking out a cigarette from his pocket and handing it to Lu Feng, saying, “Brother-in-law, have a smoke.”
"I've quit!" Lu Feng waved his hand and looked at him, saying, "Have you learned it now?"
Xie Heng smiled somewhat awkwardly and said, "It's mainly because Xiaohong did a good job educating us. The raw material factory over there is doing very well now, mainly supplying Jiamei Foods."
Lu Feng looked at the Jiang brothers, Jiang Fuqiao and Jiang Fulu, who had smiles on their faces and two children standing beside them. The children were also very well-behaved and seemed to have learned the rules after a year apart.
"Take a rest and have some dried fruit or something. The food will be ready soon," said Lu Feng's father. "We have quite a few people today, but luckily the house is big enough to accommodate three or four tables."
All sorts of dried fruits, fresh fruits, and candies were served. Everyone chatted about the events of the past year. The two Jiang brothers were now wealthy and looked at Lu Feng with much greater kindness.
Even if Lu Feng refused to give money, Jiang Xiaoyan would still give money to Song Xuemei, and in the end, the money still ended up in the hands of the two brothers.
I heard that he no longer goes out to work, but opened his own store and started a small business. He's doing very well. Sometimes when he goes to the city, he still carries the title of the boss of Jiamei Foods.
While they were eating and chatting, Lu Feng's pager suddenly went off. He took it out and glanced at it. The message read: "You think you're so tough? I'm waiting to see how you make a name for yourself. There are five or six companies waiting for you. If you've got the guts, come and fight. What's the use of just talking nonsense?"
Lu Feng was completely bewildered.
"Is something wrong at the company? He's the big boss, it's normal for him to be busy."
Lu Feng shook his head.
“Brother-in-law, you’re a CEO, why don’t you get a new mobile phone? They’re cheap now, even a grey market one is only 17,000 yuan. I just got a new one.” Jiang Fulu pulled a big one out of his leather jacket pocket.
Lu Feng glanced at his elder brother's mobile phone, then at Jiang Xiaoyan. These two brothers-in-law were indeed living a very comfortable life.
Song Xuemei slapped Jiang Fulu's hand and secretly glared at him. Their relationship was already bad, and now he's showing off his big cell phone. Does he think Jiang Xiaoyan is paying him a lot of money?
"It's too big and hard to carry. A pager is fine." Lu Feng casually put the pager in his pocket, thinking that someone must have sent it to the wrong person.
Looking at Jiang Xiaohong's belly, Lu Feng's mother then looked at Jiang Xiaoyan and said, "This belly hasn't shown any signs of pregnancy this year?"
"ah?"
Jiang Xiaoyan froze on the spot as if struck by a blunt object, her face turning pale instantly. She couldn't answer the question, and even deep down, she couldn't face it.
"I'm busy right now, and having more than enough is enough," Lu Feng hurriedly said. "We don't have any plans for that yet, we're both busy."
“You have to have children even if you’re busy. I’ve been thinking about this all year. Your business is getting bigger and bigger, and eventually someone from your own family will have to inherit it.” As she spoke, Lu Feng’s mother glanced at Duo Duo and continued, “You’re young now, but it will be too late when you reach this age.”
"I know, let's not talk about that during the New Year," Lu Feng said to his mother. "Why don't you go check on the food?"
Lu Feng's mother naturally knew that Lu Feng didn't want her to talk about it, but this matter had to be done. She and her husband had been discussing it for a year. Before, Jiang Xiaoyan had made excuses, saying that Lu Feng was useless, and they didn't know if they could even make it work.
Life is getting better and better, but there's still no sign of pregnancy. What kind of wife is like this? Wouldn't people laugh at us?
"I'm going to the toilet." Jiang Xiaoyan got off the kang (a heated brick bed), put on her shoes, and walked downstairs.
The atmosphere in the house was somewhat somber. This matter had become a huge burden on everyone's heads. As for not having children, the two of them would just live their lives as they were.
In their minds, this was simply a fantasy!
The mindset here is considered quite open; in some more remote areas, it's unacceptable not to have a son.
Lu Feng was also a bit of a headache. Although his father didn't say anything, the look in his eyes said it all. Before, it was because the family was poor that he was grateful to have a woman with him. Now that he was rich enough to last several lifetimes, he naturally had to consider the issue of offspring.
“People in big cities have different ideas. This kind of thing happens naturally. In big cities, most people only have one child. Family planning is strictly enforced there, and some people don’t start having children until they are over thirty,” Song Xuemei defended her daughter.
Even the Jiang Fulu and Jiang Fuqiao families, who are known for their unreasonable and argumentative nature, remained silent in the face of this issue, demonstrating how deeply ingrained this mindset is.
"I need to use the restroom too." Lu Feng put on his shoes and went downstairs.
