Chapter 502 President Jiang's Confusion

"Director Jiang, tomorrow..."

"Wait a minute, I'm his representative now. What do you want to say to me?" Lu Feng said to Mayor Wang, "I have full authority to represent him."

"I'm going to talk to him about his family situation, are you going to act as his representative?" Mayor Wang was furious.

Lu Feng was speechless.

We talked a lot over the dinner table, especially about future industrial planning. They've done a lot of work, which shows the local government's determination to turn things around.

Without Lu Feng, this city would have indeed turned its fortunes around in 1994 and 1995, and was once known as a new industrial hub for the electronics industry.

However, Wan Yan in her previous life lacked business acumen and was torn apart by low prices and piracy. In particular, she was left with no room to survive by some small and medium-sized piracy companies that used low prices and pornographic CDs.

Don't underestimate colored CDs. Ninety percent of people who buy VCDs these days do so to watch them. Only after satisfying the most vulgar desires will people crave higher-level spiritual needs.

The lack of understanding of the market, competitors, and user needs led to the collapse of Wan Yan. Even 20 or 30 years later, some business courses will still use Wan Yan as a case study because it is such a classic example of losing patent rights, market share, and industry dominance.

Mayor Wang spoke politely to Smith's team, subtly suggesting that Jiang Wanmeng be mentioned, and that they should talk outside of Lu Feng's presence.

"Excuse me, I need to use the restroom. Please excuse me." Mayor Wang stood up, cleared his throat, and walked out. A moment later, President Jiang also stood up and indicated that he needed to use the restroom as well.

Only Lu Feng, Smith's team, and two of Mayor Wang's entourage remained in the private room.

“Mr. Lu, don’t think your underhanded tactics will work. Let me tell you, this city takes this matter very seriously. I hope you have the self-awareness to know your place,” a man in his forties warned.

"I've gotten to where I am today because I lack self-awareness. I don't know your position. It's normal to want to do things for your superiors, just don't mess it up." Lu Feng picked up a piece of spinach and put it in his mouth, saying, "I dare to sit here and challenge you because I have my reasons. If you want to step up, or if you want your subordinates to step up, go ahead. If something happens to me and you can stay in your position, then I've wasted my time!"

"Young in age, but boastful," another person nearby said. "Trying to scare me?"

"I'm not kidding you. Let me be frank, I've traveled all over the country. I've met big shots and tough punks, and I've seen plenty of people trying to curry favor and climb the ranks." Lu Feng put down his chopsticks, chewed on his cold dish, and said with a sinister smile, "I'm still completely unharmed. Isn't that strange?"

The two were seasoned veterans; they knew exactly who could do things and who couldn't. Lu Feng was acting like a rogue, and so were the other men.

How about trying someone else?

They'd already been thrown out. What they're afraid of now is that Lu Feng came here under orders, and if they touch him, the person behind him will immediately jump out.

Inside the restroom, Mayor Wang washed his hands and said to General Manager Jiang beside him, "You really think that Lu Feng can maximize your benefits? Let me tell you, the city is the one that truly cares about you."

“I know, but I don’t understand these things. I wanted him to help me. Besides, President Lu is very professional, especially President Feng who is with him.”

Mr. Jiang is in a state of confusion. He is surrounded by people, all of whom are telling him that they are good to him and that everyone else is only after his own interests.

All he knows now is that Lu Feng has no ulterior motives; he's just here to help him. He understands the city's plans perfectly well. Nobody cares about him; they only care about their own share and whether it can get into their pockets as quickly as possible.

“We will fully support the development of VCD. Asking for too high a price will scare them away. It’s very difficult to attract foreign investment now. We need to have a big picture perspective. Lu Feng may seem like a scoundrel on the surface, but he’s actually very shrewd. He may seem like he doesn’t want anything, but he actually wants everything.” Mayor Wang earnestly advised, “Don’t be blinded by your own involvement. Go back and think about it carefully.”

"I definitely will!"

“He still has a mess on his end. You probably saw the news before the New Year. Jiafeng Electronics was short of funds. He put aside his own business to help you. You're not a three-year-old. There's no such thing as a free lunch.” Mayor Wang sighed and said, “I used to work in a state-owned enterprise and deal with businessmen. Let me tell you a lesson.”

"Those who cling to their own interests are not ruthless. On the contrary, some businessmen who come out not for money, but to talk about brotherhood or do charity work, are the most dangerous!"
