The next morning, a woman in her forties stood in the living room. She was not tall, only a little over 1.5 meters, and her face was covered with the marks of time. Her tied-up hair showed a lot of gray hair.
Standing next to the woman was a girl who looked to be around twenty years old.
"Don't worry, I'll definitely do my best!" The aunt looked at Jiang Xiaoyan and said with a lack of confidence, "My daughter can also help me. She's been working since she was little, and she doesn't need wages. She can just eat here. What do you think?"
"Aunt Liu, it's alright. Just help tidy up at home, and I'll take you to your place." Jiang Xiaoyan led the two of them toward the maid's room on the first floor.
Aunt Liu was indeed efficient at her work, and she got busy in no time. She cooked a meal for lunch, which tasted very good. Lu Feng praised her a couple of times, and Jiang Xiaoyan said from the side, "The person I found will definitely be fine."
Jiang Xiaoyan had to do all sorts of things, from cleaning the house and washing clothes to cooking and preparing medicine. Sometimes she was exhausted from doing all that alone, but Aunt Liu and her daughter had it very easy.
In the afternoon, Jiang Xiaoyan went out to buy clothes, intending to buy several outfits for Aunt Liu and her daughter. The two of them were very polite to each other. Lu Feng was lying in the bedroom when Su Yourong called again. She didn't want to wait any longer and hoped that Lu Feng would increase her funds as soon as possible to avoid any unforeseen problems.
Lu Feng was half-lying on the bed trying to persuade her when the door was suddenly pushed open. He was startled and turned to look at the doorway. He saw that it was the little girl and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Why didn't you knock?" Lu Feng asked.
"Um...I..." She stood at the door, head down, like a child who had done something wrong, clutching the sheets and blankets in her hands. She sobbed, and large tears streamed down her face.
"I have something to take care of, so I'll have to talk to you later. Don't worry about me, I'll be right there once I've finished here." After giving Su Yourong a few instructions, Lu Feng hung up the phone.
He sat up in bed, looked at her, and asked, "What's your name?"
The little girl wiped away her tears with her sleeve and replied, "My name is Zhou Ya."
“From now on, you have to knock before entering the room, understand?” Lu Feng said, looking at the bed sheets and duvet cover in her hand. “Go change them. Don’t cry. I didn’t say anything to you.”
Lu Feng walked out of the bedroom, stopped and instructed, "By the way, just change the sheets and duvet cover, don't rummage through the rest, they're all personal belongings."
"Understood!" Zhou Ya nodded.
It was clear that although she was twenty years old, she hadn't seen much of the world. She was flustered, like a startled rabbit, and went downstairs after changing her things.
The house was all tidied up, and there were still a few hours until dinner. Aunt Liu noticed that her daughter's eyes were red and asked, "What's wrong?"
"I just got scolded," Zhou Ya said, her head down.
“You need to learn some manners from now on. This isn’t our home, nor is it the village. You can’t expect to be greeted with smiles just by opening anyone’s gate. This is a wealthy family.” Aunt Liu felt sorry for her daughter, but she still said, “You should also be more clever and sweet-talking. Rich people are often bad-tempered. Mr. Jiang has already been very kind.”
"I saw that man, and I was scared!!" Zhou Ya said, her head down.
When Jiang Xiaoyan returned, she found the two were not in the living room. She went into their room and overheard this conversation. She quickly asked, "What happened?"
"General Manager Jiang is back?" Aunt Liu hurriedly stood up and said, "It's nothing, he's just a child. He's not used to the place yet, he'll be fine in a couple of days."
"Did Lu Feng say anything about you?" Jiang Xiaoyan asked Zhou Ya. "Don't be afraid of him. That's just how he is. I'll talk to him about it during dinner tonight."
"No, no, Mr. Lu is a very nice person." Aunt Liu hurriedly said, "My girl is not very good at doing things, she's clumsy, please don't mention Mr. Lu."
“I told you to go out and buy clothes, but you wouldn’t go. I bought you a few outfits. Try them on, and if they don’t fit, you can return or exchange them.” Jiang Xiaoyan handed over the bags of clothes in her hand.
Aunt Liu and Jiang Xiaoyan were naturally very polite, but in the end, Zhou Ya changed into the new clothes. It's true that clothes make the man and gold make the Buddha. Zhou Ya put on the new clothes and tied her hair up, which gave her a more youthful look, but she still liked to keep her head down.
Aunt Liu quickly expressed her gratitude. Seeing that it was getting late and the host was home, she didn't dare to be idle since it was her first day. She hurried to the kitchen.
Jiang Xiaoyan found Lu Feng on a lounge chair in the back garden, walked over and said, "Did you yell at that young girl?"
Lu Feng turned around, somewhat surprised, and asked, "No, did they complain to you?"
“Her eyes are all red from crying, so please speak more softly. When I was that age, I had just visited your house, and your mother would put down her chopsticks and bowl while she was eating, and I didn’t dare to eat anymore.” Jiang Xiaoyan sat down and said, “Looking at Zhou Ya sometimes feels like looking at myself in the past.”
"Is it that exaggerated? You make it sound like she's a bandit's wife." Lu Feng picked up the teacup on the table, took a sip, and said, "I'm going out to a banquet tonight and won't be eating at home. I'll go pick up Duo Duo."
"Remember this, always smile when you talk to people. You're a boss, you're used to dealing with your subordinates, but you don't know how scary it is when your face turns stern," Jiang Xiaoyan instructed.
"Oh, I know, haven't I been lectured enough by you?" Lu Feng went into the house to get his car keys.
In the kitchen, Aunt Liu was busy cooking, while Zhou Ya was tidying up the vegetables. She said, "You're making so much?"
“That’s normal, they’re a wealthy family. Mr. Jiang said he wanted to make sweet and sour fish for the child, so could you clean and gut the fish?” Aunt Liu instructed.
Zhou Ya looked up at the kitchen, which was much bigger and more luxurious than her own home. It was filled with appliances, and even her mother, who was considered to be very worldly, had to ask President Jiang how to use some of them.
