Chapter 639 Jiang Xiaoyan's Miscarriage

Lu Feng watched his car drive away, snorted coldly, and went upstairs by himself. Huang Youwei's office was filled with smoke. People always have to compromise, no matter what position they hold or how much money they have. Compromise is a normal part of life.

There was a knock on the office door, and Huang Youwei said in a low voice, "Come in!"

Lu Feng pushed open the door and walked in. He saw that the office lights were off, only the desk lamp on his desk was lit, and the smoke he exhaled under the light was particularly thick, like his lingering sorrow.

Huang Youwei propped his head up with one hand, the light from the desk lamp making the white hair at his temples stand out starkly.

"What are you standing there for?" Huang Youwei looked up at him and said, "Didn't you say you were giving me local specialties? Hurry up and deliver them, I'm going home after you're done."

Lu Feng walked over and sat down, staring at him and sighing, "The moment you walked in, I saw how old you've gotten."

"You're almost fifty, how can you not look old?" Huang Youwei sighed. "You've changed a lot in the last two years. When I first met you at the restaurant, I thought to myself, 'Where did this kid come from?' My impression of you back then could be summed up in two words: naive and inexperienced!"

“Yes, we’ve been through a lot together over the years, and we’ve been through thick and thin together. You’re about to get promoted, and I’m about to expand globally. To be honest, I feel like we won’t have many opportunities to interact in the future.” Lu Feng put the leather bag on the table and said, “These local specialties are the last thing I’m asking you for. Whether you do it or not is up to you.”

"Honestly?" Huang Youwei sat up straight and looked at Lu Feng, saying, "Let me give you a piece of advice: international trade isn't as simple as you think. Consider this a warning. But you're right about one thing: after I go up there, we really shouldn't see each other again. Meeting you here has already caused me so much trouble."

"There were opportunities, weren't there? Enough said. I'll treat you to a meal during the New Year." Lu Feng stood up, about to walk towards the door, but suddenly stopped, turned back, and said, "You're a good official!"

"The truth?" Huang Youwei asked, raising his eyelids.

"The people have their own standards," Lu Feng waved his hand at him and said, "A good official can't tolerate any injustice, right?"

Huang Youwei didn't say anything, he just waved his hand and told him to leave.

Lu Feng went downstairs and let out a long sigh of relief. He had done all he could, and the rest of the decision was up to Huang Youwei. This was a big matter, and it was not something a businessman like him could weigh the pros and cons of.

As soon as Lu Feng left, Huang Youwei grinned, his mind still replaying Lu Feng's words, "good official," as he reached for the leather bag.

As he took the items out and looked through them, the smile on his face gradually froze. After examining all of them, his expression turned extremely ugly. He knew that some people had dirty hands, but he never expected that this wasn't just about their hands; he had fallen into a cesspool!

To intervene or not to intervene?

Huang Youwei hesitated. This series of people had a huge impact, and even he couldn't make a decision on his own. He needed to report to the province. Moreover, these things didn't have much to do with him and wouldn't affect his promotion next year.

Huang Youwei felt his mouth was a little dry, so he lit a cigarette and his mind raced, weighing the pros and cons. He was like a student who had packed everything and was waiting for the holiday.

While waiting for the holiday, I realized the teacher hadn't assigned any homework. Should I remind them?

"This is far too serious!" Huang Youwei said in a low voice, his brows furrowed as he flipped through the pages. "It's just asking for trouble."

As a man approaching fifty, he was remarkably calm. Bringing this up wouldn't have much impact on him, but it would definitely offend people. If it led to a series of problems, then it would be a real mess.

After putting the items back into the leather bag, Huang Youwei looked at the time on the wall and thought he should go back to sleep first. Suddenly, he remembered Lu Feng's words when he left.

"The people have a scale in their hearts!"

Huang Youwei, who was about to leave his seat, sat down again and, without hesitation, picked up the phone on the table and dialed the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection directly.

"This is Huang Youwei. I have something to report to you. I received an anonymous package," Huang Youwei said into the phone.

It was already past nine o'clock at night when Lu Feng drove home.

At home, Zhang Fengxia came over today and had dinner with Jiang Xiaoyan. When Lu Feng still hadn't returned in the evening, the two chatted in the bedroom.

Suddenly, Jiang Xiaoyan's expression changed drastically, and she clutched her stomach, gasping for breath.

"Oh dear! Oh dear!"

Two cries of "Ouch!" and her face turning instantly pale startled Zhang Fengxia, who hurriedly asked, "What's wrong?"

"My stomach hurts, like it's being drilled," Jiang Xiaoyan said, breaking out in a cold sweat. In a short while, she was covered in sweat.

"Get to the hospital right away!"

Zhang Fengxia jumped out of bed and called for Aunt Liu and Zhou Ya. The two of them came over and hurriedly carried Jiang Xiaoyan downstairs and put her in the car.

Zhang Fengxia looked at Jiang Xiaoyan in the back seat, her heart pounding like oil. She comforted her for a few moments, then stepped on the gas and turned the car around. The front of the car scraped against the wall, completely damaging the front of the vehicle, but she didn't care at the moment.

They turned around and sped away at full throttle.

After arriving at the hospital and beginning various examinations, less than twenty minutes later, a nurse approached Zhang Fengxia and asked, "Are you a family member?"

"I...I am. Is she alright?" Zhang Fengxia hurriedly stood up and asked.

"The mother is fine, but the baby is gone. It was a miscarriage caused by the absence of a fetal heartbeat. We don't know the specific reason, but these kinds of miscarriages are usually due to incomplete fetal development, heart malformation, or other reasons. We need to induce labor now. Please sign this." The nurse handed the pen to Zhang Fengxia after speaking.
