Lu Feng's mother on the other end of the phone was stunned upon hearing this. She knew nothing about it, and it was like a bolt from the blue for her. She hurriedly asked, "Mother-in-law, what's wrong? I have no idea. Why would he want a divorce? She's pregnant now. Please don't upset the baby. I'll apologize on his behalf if anything happens."
"Stop talking nonsense. Let me tell you, this is your family's problem. You've bullied my daughter like this, kicked her out of the house. It breaks my heart to see this. Let me tell you, you won't be done until you hand over half of the family property. Tell Lu Feng to liquidate the assets and bring me the money. We're cutting ties now!" Song Xuemei hung up the phone after saying that.
Lu Feng's parents panicked. They had no idea what had happened and hurriedly called Lu Feng, but he was still asleep. The phone kept ringing, but no one answered.
The two of them could only watch helplessly, like ants on a hot pan!
In the evening, Lu Feng woke up. Aunt Liu and her daughter returned and tidied up the house. Zhou Ya then brought Duo Duo back.
The weather outside was gloomy. At the turn of night, a wind picked up, and the lush leaves in the vegetable garden rustled in the wind. The living room light was on, but it couldn't illuminate the room. When Duoduo saw Lu Feng come downstairs, she hurriedly asked, "Dad, where's Mom?"
“Your mother…” Lu Feng looked at her and said, “Your mother went back to her maternal grandparents’ house.”
"Why didn't you take me? It's almost Sunday, and I want to go back too." The little guy sat down angrily, his face full of unhappiness, and said, "I'll call Grandma's house and ask her."
"Your grandma's phone is broken, don't call. Go do your homework." Lu Feng didn't want her to know too much. He knew Song Xuemei all too well. He turned to Aunt Liu and asked, "Is dinner ready?"
"It's ready, shall we eat now?"
"Let Duoduo eat, I have no appetite." Lu Feng said dejectedly. His beard had grown out, and with his face unwashed, he had lost the vigor he had shown a few days ago.
The phone rang in the living room, and Lu Feng stepped forward to answer it, asking, "Who is it?"
"Feng, it's me, your mother. What happened? I've been calling you all day. I'm so worried! Your mother-in-law called me and said you want a divorce? You don't want Xiaoyan anymore? What are you thinking? She's pregnant. Even if you have someone else, you have to wait until after the baby is born!" Lu's mother asked, her voice full of reproach.
"It's not something that can be explained in a sentence or two. I'll call you back. I'll hang up now." Lu Feng said and put down the phone.
Lu Feng walked down to the bedroom. Duo Duo looked at her father. Children's hearts are the most sensitive. She could sense that the house had become very unfamiliar lately. She could feel the bad atmosphere. That feeling made her anxious. In fact, Duo Duo had become much more sensible during this time. She no longer went out to play wildly and did her homework on time every day.
She was terrified that she had done something wrong that led to all of this, and her intuition told her that she was about to lose something.
Lu Feng returned to his bedroom, closed the door, and called home. When his mother told him that Song Xuemei wanted a divorce and would give half of her property to Jiang Xiaoyan, Lu Feng was not surprised.
"I'll handle this. You two should live your lives peacefully. I'll call Xiaoyan in a bit. If all else fails, make sure Duoduo is settled, then I'll go back." Lu Feng said into the phone.
"Your father and I believe that, no matter what, the original spouse is the best. I know what kind of person Song Xuemei is. If it doesn't work out, then forget it. After the child is born, give her a sum of money, understand?" the person on the other end of the phone instructed.
“I’m all grown up now, and I can take responsibility for everything I do. Okay, that’s it. Don’t worry about me.” Lu Feng didn’t really care about his parents. He had already given them everything they could never have otherwise received in their lives.
"If she says she's desperate for money, we can't give it to her, understand?"
"I'll handle my own affairs. That's all. If she calls you again, just don't answer. Hang up." Lu Feng said and put down the phone.
Lu Feng found the phone book and called Jiang Ergou's home.
"Who is it?" Xiaohong answered the phone.
"I am Lu Feng!"
"How dare you call me?" Jiang Xiaohong said sarcastically.
"Who is it?" Song Xuemei asked from the side.
"Lu Feng!"
Song Xuemei took the phone and shouted angrily, "You still know how to call? Let me tell you, my Xiaoyan has never suffered this injustice from you. She left your house crying all the way home from Jiangsu. She has suffered so much with you all these years. Since you want a divorce, then let's get a divorce. You must give us half of the money as compensation."
"Can Xiaoyan answer the phone?" Lu Feng asked.
Jiang Fuqiao and Jiang Fulu's voices came through the phone.
"You bullied my family! Let me tell you, you'll see if I don't give you one!"
"Do you really think the Jiang family is easy to bully?"
Jiang Xiaoyan was already awake. Seeing the room full of people, she knew Lu Feng had called. She walked over weakly and said, "I'll answer the phone."
"Ask him for money. If he doesn't have any, don't say anything. Why waste time saying so much useless nonsense?" Jiang Fuqiao instructed from the side.
"They're calling to plead for you now because they're afraid of paying you out. Who leaves with nothing? Are you kidding me?" Jiang Fulu couldn't help but mutter.
Wrapped up in layers of clothing, Jiang Xiaoyan answered the phone, but before she could even speak, tears streamed down her face.
"Stop crying, you're such a wimp. Your family of wolves produced such a lamb like you," Song Xuemei said irritably.
