Chapter 771 Three Types of People

Motorola's reduced sales volume is a devastating blow to Bird and Jiafeng Electronics. This surge in sales during the off-season has given many people a real scare.

If foreign companies in the home appliance industry, such as those producing televisions and radios, had squeezed their profits and swept through the market with impunity a few years ago, would we be where we are today?

The phone calls between the CEOs were unusually busy today, and the topics of conversation were quite divergent. Some people believed that if Motorola did this, Ericsson, Panasonic, and other companies would definitely not sit idly by; they couldn't let him make all the money in the market.

Some people were busy calling their superiors, saying that the other party was engaging in illegal competition and that it must be severely punished to prevent foreign companies in other industries from following suit, which would be very detrimental to domestic enterprises.

Others were busy contacting Liu Run, offering suggestions such as building factories in China to reduce costs and prices, thereby dominating the market. They suggested collaborating with Motorola to establish a joint venture to provide supporting industries.

Some experts have also noticed the changes in the communications industry, and have written down that the window of opportunity for explosive growth in China's communications development has arrived, presenting the best opportunity to exchange market access for technology and allowing foreign investment to help achieve rapid development.

As night fell, chaos reigned. Lu Feng arrived at the center of the city square. In March, Shenzhen had already shed the chill of winter, and the square was crowded with men and women in groups.

A long line of people had formed in front of a Motorola dealership not far away. Lu Feng walked over and saw that there were about a hundred people, most of whom were wearing military overcoats, carrying stools, and some even had pillows, looking like they were going to spend the night there.

Du Guoying had never seen such a strange sight before. She took two steps forward, glanced at it, and said, "It's closed, what are we queuing for?"

"If you don't queue now, you won't be able to buy any, let alone tomorrow or the day after tomorrow." A man in his twenties said to Du Guoying, "Even if I queue here now, I might not be able to buy any tomorrow."

"There are only about a hundred or so people. How can this store not even have this much stock?" Du Guoying was even more puzzled.

“Everyone’s at this party, how could we possibly buy one? See that guy over there?” The man pointed to a bearded man in front of him and said, “He alone wants to buy a hundred of these. Let me tell you, you can only buy them now because they’re in limited supply. You can’t buy them normally.”

Lu Feng stood to the side watching the long queue. These were all scalpers. The price of 3,990 yuan had already given them enough profit margin, making it worthwhile for them to stand in this long queue.

The line was long and there were many onlookers. People were chattering away. A man in his thirties stood next to Lu Feng with a very ugly expression. He said to the man, "Are foreign products really that good? It's you guys who are making foreign goods so popular."

"What are you yelling at me for! You're not happy about not being able to get in line, are you?" the man retorted without any politeness.

"I'm not comfortable? I never use it. Keep speculating, keep making money, and give that money to your fathers. Why don't you use it to support domestic products?" The middle-aged man looked indignant and pointed at the scalpers, cursing, "You guys are the ones who have ruined the social atmosphere. Is a broken pager really that great?"

As more and more people gathered around, the middle-aged man's words made many of them uncomfortable.

"He's just a scalper, and he's even trying to claim he supports domestic products? If you're so supportive of domestic products, why don't you just make all foreign capital withdraw? That way, we won't be able to buy them anymore!"

"Exactly, anyone can talk big."

"Does anything made in China even deserve to be called a piece of shit? If those companies did anything even remotely decent, I'd support them. I bought a TV five years ago, and it broke down in less than a year. My neighbor bought a Toshiba, and it's still working perfectly. Anyone who buys Chinese-made products is an idiot!"

The scene was as noisy as a vegetable market. A few people supported domestic products, believing that there would be no future without them. A second group blindly believed that foreign products were better and more stable. A third group had bought domestic products before and found the quality to be terrible, so they stood there cursing.

The scene was getting out of control, with some people even pointing fingers at each other, looking like a fight was about to break out. Du Guoying had never seen anything like this before, so she quickly retreated.

Looking at the people present, Lu Feng realized that these three factions represented the complexities of this era.

At first, they were arguing about domestic versus foreign products based on practical considerations. But after less than ten minutes, it had devolved into pure profanity. The middle-aged man could only utter the phrase "traitorous dog," while the young man stared wide-eyed and kept repeating "fuck your mother, fuck your mother!"

Lu Feng knew that such an argument was pointless and doomed to failure. He walked to the side and asked another scalper in line, "If you buy these for 3,990 yuan and then resell them, how much will you sell them for?"

"The price varies. The original price was a little over four thousand, which made them easy to sell. If you want to sell them quickly, you'll have to earn less. Earning a little over a hundred per pager is already pretty good. To be honest, waiting here in this freezing weather, this is all hard-earned money," the scalper said, his expression slightly bitter.

"I don't know what they're arguing about. It's meaningless. We're just ordinary people, doing this is just a way to make a living," another older man complained.

“You say the country prospers and industry develops, but that’s not something we can decide. We can’t do anything about it, and arguing won’t help!” Another person said, and seeing that the other side was about to fight, he shouted, “Don’t fight! Try moving!”

Lu Feng glanced back at them and saw that the two men had started pointing their fingers at each other's faces, chest to chest, and shouting, "Try touching me if you dare! Whoever doesn't make a move is a coward!"
