The topics discussed at the event were quite varied, and the viewpoints raised all revolved around how to help mainland China complete its communication infrastructure, the investment plans of major companies in the coming years, employee training, and support for local businesses.
"Okay, it's clear that all of you CEOs are very optimistic about this market, and the competition is already fierce. So, let's ask the experts for their opinions. Hello, Professor Liang." The host greeted Liang Longyan.
"Hello, host!"
"I know you are a very authoritative figure in the field of communications. You are currently the vice president of the Digital Communications Association. I noticed before that you published an article in the media expressing your thoughts, which basically said that fully opening up to foreign investment would have huge benefits and potential for the development of digital communications in China." The host paused for a moment and then said tactfully, "As far as I know, this article has caused a great deal of controversy."
Everyone knows in their hearts that the so-called 'huge controversy' is just the general public criticizing him!
Liang Longyan took the microphone, a confident smile on her face, and said, "Actually, these controversies are meaningless. What do ordinary people know? I still believe that this is a huge... um... window of opportunity for domestic communications to catch up with the international level. If you miss it, there may not be another opportunity like this in the next few decades."
"What do you mean by that?" The host looked at him with interest. The host also wanted to stir things up. He found the usual questions utterly boring, and everyone was just saying polite things.
"Domestic communications, whether it's the communication infrastructure, such as signal towers and switches, all come from abroad. As for terminal receivers, such as mobile phones and pagers, the technology is all from abroad. Don't even mention things like waveguides or Jiaxun, which I don't know where they are from; they all bought the technology."
A burst of laughter erupted from the room. Liang Longyan's words implied that the Jiaxun pager had been launched sometime in the past, and everyone turned their attention to Lu Feng.
When it comes to making waves in the industry, you have to look to Lu Feng!
"What is this? Before the Lunar New Year, a certain company spent a whopping 400 million yuan to buy a bankrupt laboratory. Let me tell you, that laboratory didn't even have a decent table. What is this? This is a serious case of asset outflow!"
Liang Longyan looked solemn, as if he considered the issue to be very serious. He said in a deep voice, "If my remarks have caused great controversy, then the public has the right to suspect that the company is transferring assets abroad, especially when it has a lot of domestic debt. I suggest that we investigate this matter thoroughly and not let these people take advantage of the people's tax revenue to live a carefree life abroad."
"To return to the question of why we should open up to foreign investment, we must face up to one issue: the technology gap and patent barriers. Compared with foreign countries, our domestic technology patents are like an infant. Even if you were given decades, you might not be able to develop them on your own!"
"How much money has been invested over these decades? Has anyone calculated it? If it succeeds, great; but what if it fails? How will we explain that?"
"When considering problems, don't think from the perspective of those companies. They definitely want to develop because they want to get loans. They use these pretexts to ask for land, policies, and subsidies. After it's all over, it's a mess. Who will bail them out? The local municipality!"
“My idea is that companies like Ericsson and Motorola have very strong R&D capabilities and a deep technological foundation. We should open up the market to them, let them register companies, and then form an industrial chain locally to support our local enterprises. Decades later, I believe this will be more effective than subsidizing domestic enterprises.”
"Moreover, I urgently believe that the comprehensive development of the communications industry for the general public is imminent, which is why I wrote that article."
"This viewpoint is truly unique. Thank you again, Professor Liang. Due to time constraints, thank you to all the CEOs for joining us on stage for the discussion. Next, please welcome Mr. Cai, CEO of Ericsson Greater China, to give his speech," the host said, standing up.
Several staff members carried the chairs away, and Cai Tianlun gave a speech about Ericsson. The main content was Ericsson's founding mission, its investment plan in mainland China, and what changes it would bring after mobile phones were connected to the network. He also compared several countries where Ericsson had been connected to the network.
The discussion and presentations by these individuals lasted for more than two hours, but because the content was so lackluster, many people started to doze off towards the end.
"Thank you, Mr. Cai. Let's give another round of applause to everyone." The host clapped his hands and saw them off. He glanced at the question cards in his hand and said, "Now, let's invite a few more executives to come up and talk about the future development of the communications industry and discuss the global communications landscape. Next, please welcome Mr. Lu Feng, Chairman of Jiafeng Electronics; Ms. Elmi, Head of Nokia Greater China; Mr. Park In-dong, Head of Samsung Mainland Office; Mr. Ni Guangnan, Vice Chairman of Lenovo; and Mr. Liu Run, General Manager of Motorola."
Amid applause, Lu Feng stood up. Vice Mayor Liu, who was sitting in the front row, turned around and looked at Lu Feng. Lu Feng watched him straighten his suit and a wicked smile appeared on his face.
For some reason, Vice Mayor Liu felt a chill run down his spine, sensing that something bad was about to happen.
"Among so many entrepreneurs, I found that domestic entrepreneurs are relatively young and more daring. Whether it's Xu Lihua or Lu Feng, they are both young people under thirty."
"Yes, yes, yes, young people have drive." Vice Mayor Liu quickly agreed to the person next to him.
Lu Feng walked towards the stage and shook hands with the host. As Elmi stepped onto the stage, the men below gasped in amazement. The host exclaimed, "Ms. Elmi is so beautiful, she adds a touch of brilliance to the entire venue."
