Lambert had only intended to have a meal to put some pressure on Lu Feng, but he was surprised to receive such news.
"Which one?" Lambert asked.
“Sorry, it’s a trade secret!” Lu Feng replied.
Lambert thought for a moment and then stopped asking, believing that Lu Feng had just made it up to fool people.
The rest of the meal was devoid of any further conversation. Everyone had already revealed their hand. After a few hurried bites, Lambert stood up, said his goodbyes, and left. Lu Feng ate his fill before departing.
The news of Lu Feng's dinner with Lambert caused quite a stir. John watched the news on TV and immediately called a few old friends after landing.
After meeting up, the group had a meal and talked a lot about the matter, but none of them understood what the value of Jiafeng Electronics represented. It was just that several large companies on Wall Street were vying for it.
John looked at the news with some worry. This matter had been making quite a stir, but the underlying investment logic had been kept secret. Normally, as an investor, he would have rejected it outright in such a situation.
But the situation is different now!
"Call him and tell him we've arrived. If it's convenient this afternoon, let's arrange to meet," John instructed his assistant.
"Okay, I'll get on it now!"
Lu Feng had just returned to the hotel when the phone rang. Liu Yilong answered the call and finalized the matter.
"President Lu, should we meet him or not?" Liu Yilong was somewhat unsure.
“The ugly daughter-in-law will eventually have to meet her in-laws. It doesn’t matter when she meets them, there’s no time like the present.” Lu Feng said to Liu Yilong, “Have the hotel prepare a conference room.”
At 3:30 p.m., John and his group arrived at the hotel conference room. There were thirteen people in total. These thirteen people could be described as elites of the Schroder Investment Group. Their average age was over forty. They were all wearing black suits and carrying leather bags. They looked like absolute business elites.
Lu Feng didn't change his clothes, just rested briefly, and then led Wang Yuanhe and the other two into the conference room.
"Hello, you must have had a long journey!" Lu Feng said politely, shaking John's hand.
“Mr. Lu is the one who is very busy. He just finished lunch with Lambert and we have disturbed him again. I’m really sorry.”
After a few minutes of insincere pleasantries, they sat down and got down to business. John asked the question he was concerned about very directly.
"Jiafeng Electronics is valued at tens of billions of US dollars, yet it is being fought over by so many companies. I want to know the investment logic behind this, or rather, what supports you in making such a high valuation?"
"With rapid development, Jiafeng Electronics is growing at a rate that multiplies several times every year. We focus on R&D, and we currently invest 200% of our net profit into R&D, which is also the reason for our financing. In addition, China is developing rapidly. I believe that as China opens up, the economy will get better and better, and the consumer market will experience unprecedented prosperity."
John frowned slightly upon hearing these reasons. He was still unwilling to invest so much money so easily, and asked, "Could you tell us how your lunch with Mr. Lambert went?"
“It’s alright. He’s very interested in investing in us, but the interpersonal relationships on Wall Street are complicated, so there are some things we still need to consider.” Lu Feng’s words were a bit more nuanced.
"May I ask, what kind of relationships are these?"
Lu Feng spread his hands, giving them a helpless look, unable to answer.
The other people asked a lot of questions about the company, and Lu Feng answered all the questions he was supposed to answer, but he didn't say anything about the key things, which left the group of people quite helpless.
During the meeting, which lasted for more than an hour, John was sweating profusely and his brows were furrowed. This investment was causing him a lot of worry, and he was afraid that he would make a mistake and ruin his life with Lu Feng.
"That's all for today, thank you Mr. Lu for taking the time." John stood up and said.
"If you're going to invest, decide as soon as possible, otherwise, you might miss this opportunity." Lu Feng stood up and said, "You've all worked hard, flying there overnight. Get some rest."
After exchanging pleasantries, John went to the restroom, followed closely by Lu Feng. At the urinal, John lit a cigarette and said, "I must say, Mr. Lu is not only young, but also very handsome. You've already achieved quite a bit."
"Not bad. It's all thanks to this handsome face that I was able to find a good girlfriend. Otherwise, where would I be today?" Lu Feng said smugly.
John seemed to have grasped something and asked, "Who is your girlfriend?"
"Lewinsky!"
Monica Lewinsky?
"How did you know?" Lu Feng suddenly became alert, staring at John with great tension.
"Oh, I know someone named Lewinsky, but she's probably not your girlfriend. She just turned sixty a few days ago." John laughed and brushed it off.
But his heart was already in turmoil. This matter was not something he should have known at his level, but an accident made him learn some things he shouldn't have known.
Lu Feng was also surprised. From John's tone, it seemed that he already knew something.
Lu Feng originally planned to find an opportunity to leave a clue so that they could investigate. With the Schroder Group's extensive network of connections, it shouldn't be difficult. He didn't expect that an executive vice president would actually know.
Both fell into an awkward silence as they quietly went to the restroom. After Lu Feng finished and went to wash his hands at the sink, John came over and said, "Mr. Lu, I have decided to invest in your company, based on the valuation in the prospectus, $3.5 billion, for a 35% stake."
Lu Feng paused for a moment, looked at him and said, "I have to wait for news from Wall Street first."
