Life is like a test paper in the hands of a slacker; no matter how difficult it is, you will always encounter questions you know how to answer. For Lu Feng and Jiang Xiaoyan, there were not many arguments that night; everything was as ordinary as usual.
But the two of them had no idea how long it had been since they had experienced such a routine.
There are always people in this world who are pursuing happiness, but they don't know what happiness is. Perhaps they only know what happiness is when they lose the mundane days they once despised.
Nothing happened that night. As dawn broke, Jiang Xiaoyan woke up. Her biological clock was fixed; she would wake up at this time every day, take Duoduo to school, and then go to work.
She sat up, glanced at Lu Feng beside her who was snoring loudly, and felt a mix of emotions. She got out of bed and started making breakfast.
At 8:30 in the morning, some programs started playing on TV. Compared to other programs, there is not a lack of TV programs nowadays. There are aerobics, calligraphy, Tai Chi, Qigong, and even a lot of hardcore science popularization.
Duoduo sat there eating, looking somewhat lost in thought. Lu Feng asked, "Do you have any homework?"
"I've already finished writing it," the little guy said confidently.
"Do your homework well, and if you do well on the midterm exam, Dad will grant you whatever you want, understand?" Lu Feng first painted a rosy picture for her.
Zhang Fengxia looked up at the time and said, "Let's pack up and go have lunch over there."
"Where is Daddy going?" Duoduo asked curiously.
"Go help Aunt Fengxia catch toads." Jiang Xiaoyan said casually, then added, "Then hurry up and get ready. Go change your clothes and dress more formally."
"You're just going to let me go home with her like this?" Lu Feng put down his chopsticks and couldn't help but tease, "Aren't you afraid I'll run away with her?"
“If she wants to run away, I can’t stop her. The factory will be busy after the Mid-Autumn Festival. She needs to take time off to manage things there. Being constantly bothered by her family and unable to focus on her work isn’t a good thing.” Jiang Xiaoyan seemed to have never thought about the awkwardness of her identity. She is now focusing all her attention on the company’s expansion.
After all, whether Hua Sha can grow up depends on this battle.
"Did you bring any clothes? I'll go pack them first," Zhang Fengxia said, standing up.
"I didn't bring any, I'll go back to the company to change." Lu Feng watched Zhang Fengxia go into the house, moved closer to Jiang Xiaoyan, and whispered, "You know, it would be so awkward if she stayed overnight."
“What’s embarrassing? You’ve done everything before. This time, I’m trying to buy her some time. You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve called her every few days. Her cousin even called to yell at me, saying I’m dragging her down and ruining her life. Right now, the company is in a crucial development phase, and I can’t spare the time.” Jiang Xiaoyan’s words were all about the company; she just wanted to get things sorted out as soon as possible so that Zhang Fengxia could focus on her work.
"That's not what I meant. You have to promise me that once I go, you won't turn around and ignore me." Lu Feng teased, "If you feel uncomfortable while I'm helping you, it would ruin everyone's relationship, which would be terrible."
"It's nothing, you're overthinking it. I'm so busy right now, I don't have time to think about these things." Jiang Xiaoyan put down her chopsticks and said, "I've been feeling pretty tired lately too. After the expansion, I'm even busier. I'm thinking of hiring a housekeeper so I can have some free time to cook and clean."
Lu Feng just wanted to tease her and see if she would get jealous, but Jiang Xiaoyan wasn't thinking about any of that at the moment. It was as if Lu Feng was just a tool to her, someone she could ignore after finishing this matter and focus on her work.
The feeling of being ignored made Lu Feng unable to smile.
"Fine, hire him. If you're busy, I'm busy too. Let's see each other as little as possible, or if it really doesn't work, we can avoid seeing each other altogether!" Lu Feng said in a deep voice, leaning back in his chair.
Jiang Xiaoyan sensed something was off about his tone and looked at Lu Feng with some surprise, asking, "What's wrong?"
"It's alright, I'm perfectly fine!"
Zhang Fengxia came out wearing a dress and stiletto heels. She had put on some simple makeup and looked stunning.
Lu Feng jumped up from his chair and said, "Let's go, the gifts are all in the car."
"Let's go!" Zhang Fengxia walked towards the door and said, "I'll tell you the details on the way."
Lu Feng walked over, took Zhang Fengxia's hand, and said to Jiang Xiaoyan, "Then we're leaving. You can spend the Mid-Autumn Festival by yourself."
"Go on, there's food ready!" Jiang Xiaoyan said without looking up.
Zhang Fengxia looked at her hand being held by Lu Feng, her face flushed slightly for a moment, and she struggled to pull her hand back, but Lu Feng held it tightly.
After going downstairs, Zhang Fengxia couldn't help but ask, "Why are you grabbing my hand?"
"You've already met the parents, what's wrong with holding hands? Even a kiss is normal." Lu Feng's words carried a hint of displeasure.
"What kind of temper is this? I just need your help. If you don't want to, just say so. I'll ask someone else. Why are you getting angry at me?" Zhang Fengxia also got impatient.
"I'm not saying I'm angry with you, I'm just... sigh... what's wrong with her? Last night she was... right? Now she's acting like she doesn't care at all. I'm really annoyed by her." Lu Feng leaned against the car, lit a cigarette, and looked annoyed.
Zhang Fengxia listened briefly for a couple of minutes and then said, "She's stopped being difficult, but you've started being difficult, haven't you? This is the time when the factory is expanding, and we're both busy. We don't have time to deal with you. Besides, isn't this a good thing? You just wanted her to let go, and she has indeed let go recently."
“I told her to put aside the matter of having children, not to put me aside. Now I’m an outsider, just a tool. When I need her, I call her over to help, and when I don’t, I’m just left aside. I have feelings too, you know?” Lu Feng took a deep drag on his cigarette and said, “If she really hadn’t thought about remarrying, last night…”
