Lu Feng frowned as he listened to the commotion ahead. It seemed that something serious had happened.
People were already pushing and shoving, and insults were being shouted. Lu Feng quickly stepped forward and asked, "What's going on?"
Three or four migrant workers were shoving and pushing against a few thugs. The leader was a man in his late twenties, wearing a brown leather jacket, bald, over 1.8 meters tall, weighing about 200 pounds, with a thuggish look on his face. He pointed at the worker in front and shouted, "Are you fucking getting out of here or not? Try moving again!"
The migrant workers in front were pushing and shoving, shouting that they wouldn't leave until they were paid.
"Go to hell, you think you're so great?" the man cursed, and immediately slapped the migrant worker across the face. The worker's nose bled profusely. The others shouted that someone was being assaulted and rushed forward.
A dozen or so people rushed over, knocking the first few to the ground and kicking them in the head. One of them even jumped up and stomped on the head with both feet.
"Stop fighting! What are you doing? What the hell is this? What grudge do you have?" Lu Feng shouted hurriedly.
"Say one more word, who do you think you are, yelling like that? Damn it, if you yell again I'll kill you, you believe me?" The tall man leading the group pointed at Lu Feng, his eyes flashing with malice, and shouted, "I have money to pay for killing your whole family, you don't believe me? Try it!"
Migrant workers are, after all, just ordinary people. If it comes down to strength, these few fierce-looking young men together wouldn't be a match for a laborer. But they dare to fight because they're not afraid of being arrested. If they were to fight and get arrested, their entire families would be ruined.
After a beating and shoving, the man in charge went into the house, and the rest of the men told the migrant workers to get lost or they would be ruthless.
"We deserve our wages! We've worked for a year, why shouldn't we get paid?" Hao Liu stepped forward, the forty-year-old man questioning the group of thugs. "A few days ago, Boss Sun promised to let him out, and we've cooperated with everything he asked. What more do you want? If we don't get an explanation today, we'll stay here even if it means we die."
The crowd was indignant, declaring that they would rather die than leave if they didn't receive their wages today.
Seeing that they couldn't drive the group away no matter how hard they tried, a man in his fifties, dressed in a suit and seemingly in charge, stepped forward and shouted, "What are you doing? Huh? How can you hit people? What are you doing here?"
The group of thugs, as if they had planned it in advance, took off running.
"Who are these people? Isn't it chaotic enough already? This is truly a time of chaos." The man looked at the crowd and said, "Why are you fighting with those people? Are you bored and have nothing better to do? I understand you want your wages, but can't you also understand the company? Such a large enterprise, an international company covering thousands of acres, would you really owe them money?"
"Mr. Sun, then go ahead and give it to us. You said it would be paid today." Hao Liuyi and the others were incredibly frustrated.
“It’s the end of the year, and headquarters is trying to reconcile accounts. I can’t do anything about it. I’m just an employee too. If you want to blame someone, blame the group headquarters and that stupid boss. How about this: when the second phase of the project starts next year, you can come back. I’ll settle accounts with you as soon as spring arrives. I guarantee it,” General Manager Sun assured everyone.
Nobody will believe this kind of nonsense. If they keep dragging it out, what will they do when they come back next year and deny it? Who will they turn to then?
"We need it now. If that's not possible, settle half first. These people don't even have a way to eat," Hao Liu said helplessly.
The people lying on the ground were still bleeding from their noses, and probably didn't even have the money to go to the hospital.
"I really don't have any. Your fuss won't help. If you keep making a scene, I'll call the police. It's not right for you to be in jail during the Lunar New Year, is it?" Mr. Sun threatened, then turned and left.
Lu Feng stood in the crowd and saw what was happening. He shouted, "Don't go! Come back here!"
Mr. Sun turned around and glanced at Lu Feng, asking, "Who do you think you are, bossing me around like that!"
"You say there's no money? Where did the money go? All the funds were in place before the project started. For such a big project, how can we be short of a little bit of wages?" Lu Feng scolded him. "The first phase of the project is one account, and the second phase is another investment account. How can you mix up the accounts for two investments?"
Mr. Sun was taken aback by Lu Feng's words and frowned, asking, "Who are you?"
Lu Feng desperately wanted to reveal his identity and slap this General Manager Sun across the face, but he knew he couldn't. If it were just about resolving these salary issues, he could do it with a single word, but the deeper problems would persist.
It's not a matter of accounts; the problem lies with the management of the new factory, especially in finance. Unless these people are thoroughly purged, the factory will never be successful.
"Who do you know who I am? I'm asking you a question!"
"Go to hell!" Mr. Sun cursed, turned around and left.
These people were at their wits' end, standing there dejected, some looking pale and sickly, clearly having been malnourished lately.
"What am I going to do? How am I going to explain this to my wife?!" The Tianjin man was so anxious he was almost crying.
The others also looked dejected. They didn't dare to insist on getting it because the other party wouldn't give it to them. They had already said last time that if they made a fuss again, they would stop giving it to them altogether. Whoever didn't make a fuss would be given priority.
The money that originally belonged to me has instead become a constraint on me.
The men who had been knocked to the ground had gotten up, their faces covered in blood. Lu Feng stepped forward and said, "How are you? You've been beaten like this. Don't break your nose. Go to the hospital."
"No need, no need!"
"I'll cover your medical expenses first, let's go!" Lu Feng said to him, "Let's go see a doctor!"
