Chapter 967 Driving Away

When Lu Feng saw that Boss Sun was also there, it was clear that this was no longer his own business; someone above him had instructed him to do this. As for who got the migrant workers' money, that was another matter entirely.

Mr. Sun leaned back on the sofa, smoking a cigarette, looking at the group of people with a mocking expression, like a cat watching mice.

“They are construction workers for the first phase of the project. The first phase is now completed, but their wages have been delayed. Since General Manager Sun is here, let’s get an explanation today,” Lu Feng said to him.

The office director leaned back on the sofa, glanced at General Manager Sun, and casually said, "This matter isn't under the factory director's office's jurisdiction. Go ask the general affairs department and get them to issue a note as proof."

"Prove what?" Lu Feng asked the two men. "Prove they did the work? Or prove the first phase of the project wasn't finished?"

"How dare you speak like that?! Don't you have any respect for your superiors?" The office director stood up and shouted, "Get out of here!"

"Boss, please don't be angry. He's young and doesn't know how to talk." Hao Liu hurriedly stepped forward, slightly bowing, his face full of fear, and quickly explained, "We just finished our work, but we didn't get paid. We also need travel expenses to go home for the New Year, don't you think? Please have pity on us and give us a little bit first."

Hao Liu's words finally softened the director's expression. He sat down, lit a cigarette, and said, "For this matter, first go to the General Affairs Department to get a slip and sign it, then go to the Finance Department to sign it. Every company has procedures, understand?"

"The general affairs department told me to go to finance, but finance told me to come to you. Who's in charge here?" Lu Feng said to him, "Should we get all three of you together and check things out with each other?"

"You'd better shut up. Is it your turn to speak?" the director snapped.

The director glanced at General Manager Sun beside him and asked, "What's going on?"

"It's not that we won't issue it, it's just that the quality isn't up to standard. No matter where we work, we have to do a good job. The supervisor said there are many substandard parts, so we can't even pass the inspection," General Manager Sun said casually.

"Boss, you're really wronging us. We did a lot of hard work, and besides, we followed the plans exactly. There were no problems during the initial inspection, and the house is perfectly fine now. How can you say it's substandard?" Xiao Henan said, his eyes red with tears, unable to express his grievance. "You can't treat people like this!"

When General Manager Sun saw that Xiao Henan was crying, he snorted and said, "It's not that I'm bullying a child like you. It wasn't me who said it was substandard, it was the supervisor. I'll call someone over right now."

Mr. Sun picked up the phone on the table, dialed a number, and said into the phone, "Old Li, come up here."

After hanging up the phone, Mr. Sun took a deep drag on his cigarette and continued, "I told you all to behave yourselves and not cause trouble. If I'm in a good mood, I might pay you your wages. If I'm in a bad mood, you won't get a single penny."

Hao Liu and Xiao Henan were at their wits' end. They didn't dare to offend General Manager Sun at all. If he got upset and refused to give it to them, there was nothing they could do.

If they had dared to fight back, the issue of wages wouldn't have dragged on until today.

Less than a minute later, a man in his thirties walked up. He was about 1.75 meters tall, wore glasses, and dressed quite politely, but his eyes gave off a shifty and cunning look.

"Mr. Sun, you wanted to see me?" Li Zhiqi glanced at Lu Feng and the others standing at the door, and guessed pretty much who it was.

"Tell them how the job went," said General Manager Sun, waving his hand.

Li Zhiqi turned around and looked at Hao Liu and the others, asking, "What do you mean?"

"We want our wages, but we haven't received a single penny," Hao Liu said, somewhat fearfully.

"You still have the nerve to ask for wages? Do you know your work was substandard? We're being kind by not making you lose money, and you still have the nerve to come here? Who let you in?" Li Zhiqi scolded.

Lu Feng sized up Li Zhiqi in front of him. If he wasn't mistaken, this should be the brother-in-law that Teacher Duoduo had mentioned.

"I'm asking you, how did you inspect the project if the quality is substandard? In other words, the entire factory area is now a piece of junk construction, right?" Lu Feng questioned.

"Who the hell do you think you are? Who gave you the right to ask me that? Get the hell out of here! Let me tell you, if you want your salary, behave yourself. Otherwise, you won't get a single penny." Li Zhiqi said to Lu Feng and the others, "Got it?"

Hao Liu and his group were completely at a loss. The other party had gone to such lengths that unless they really didn't want their wages, it was possible that everyone else would get paid and they wouldn't be there.

“Li Zhiqi? I’m asking you, have there been any cases of fighting resulting in death on the construction site before?” Lu Feng asked him.

"You're asking me? What right do you have to ask me? It's normal for someone to die on a construction site. Are you one of our workers?" Li Zhiqi sized up Lu Feng, feeling that he didn't seem like a worker, and his tone of voice was different from others. "Do you understand or not? I'll ask you."

"In other words, someone did die. Also, this project was won by a state-owned construction company. Why did it go back to a subsidiary? Did this subsidiary report it? Does the group headquarters know about it? Who approved it?" Lu Feng pressed.

Upon hearing these words, not only Li Zhiqi, but even General Manager Sun and the Director sitting to the side were taken aback, feeling as if they were being questioned by their superiors. Their expressions changed upon realizing what was happening.

The director stared at Lu Feng and said in a deep voice, "Who are you threatening?"

“I’m not threatening anyone. I’m just asking about this. Does the group headquarters know about it? Who did it?” Lu Feng looked at him and said, “Judging from your state, you probably don’t know. It was done by you guys in private.”
