Side Story (1): Later

Time heals all wounds, even the earth and the sea. The 1990s have passed, and everyone feels the same way about the times. Often, people reminisce about the past, thinking that life was less stressful and happier in that era, but that's just a way of escaping reality.

Life has no bitterness or sweetness, only one state: endurance. When you have too high expectations for the future, you will become increasingly dissatisfied with the present. There is a saying that Lu Feng likes: all anger comes from incompetence. But is there really anyone in this world who is omnipotent?

Crossing the century, Lu Feng spent two years establishing sales channels, setting up direct sales channels in major cities and provincial capitals across the country, and the new mobile phone was officially launched.

That year, Giti Mobile launched five phones in one go, targeting different groups of people and professions. The best of these phones used a 3.2-inch resistive screen and came with a stylus, an innovation that caused a sensation in the global industry.

In 2002, Hurricane Semiconductor achieved profitability across the board. The semiconductor industry emerged from its trough and entered a period of rapid growth globally. Lu Feng seized the opportunity to expand aggressively and reformed his semiconductor business, segmenting the industry and making several core companies subsidiaries, each independently responsible for their own profits and losses.

Liu Cheng is responsible for research and development projects, and no longer manages production-related projects.

Throughout 2002, Lu Feng invested 500 million yuan directly in the semiconductor expansion field, essentially squandering all of the company's profits from the previous two years.

The counterfeit phone market also experienced an explosive growth as expected. However, compared to the previous era, TSMC did not gain much advantage. Hurricane Semiconductor's chips, motherboards, and screens were extremely cheap and could be wholesaled at very low prices in the parts market, which caused the chips from the other side of the strait to lose sales.

Processors, motherboards, and memory from companies like Intel are expensive, so assembling a computer is not cheap. As a result, Hurricane products flood computer malls across the country, and in the various internet cafes that have sprung up, 80% of the computer components are Hurricane products.

Hurricane Semiconductor's explosive sales did not bring much profit; the overall profit margin remained at around 20%, which was practically no profit compared to its peers.

Lu Feng understood very well that only by crushing the other side could the future belong to him. Moreover, now was the best time for development. He had talked to almost all the domestic brands in the semiconductor field, regardless of whether they were competitors or not. Lu Feng had only one point in his meetings with them: as long as they could grow stronger, even if they had a falling out with Giti Mobile, it wouldn't be a big problem.

Hurricane Capital thus entered an era of intense competition. In the following two years, Lu Feng established a brand new mobile phone brand and split the mobile phone business into two independent subsidiaries. He required the two subsidiaries to compete freely in the market, and the better they performed, the more support the group headquarters would provide to the subsidiaries.

In 2002, Duoduo graduated from high school but did not take the college entrance examination. Instead, Zhang Fengxia recommended her, and Lu Feng donated a sum of money, which directly helped Duoduo go to Harvard.

United Securities further developed, especially in handling the listing of mainland companies in Hong Kong. In just a few years, Su Yourong became very close to major financial groups in Hong Kong, and United Securities became one of the top ten securities companies in Hong Kong. At the same time, it provided financing and guarantee services for some large state-owned enterprises in mainland China.

At the suggestion of Lu Feng and Zhang Fengxia, Huasha reorganized itself, divesting its daily chemical products business and establishing a new high-end brand. It collaborated with overseas companies to develop high-end brands, mainly focusing on high-end clothing and footwear, with luxury goods being the most profitable products.

In the early 2000s, Hurricane Investments invested in several internet and semiconductor companies and actively expanded its offline electronics retail presence in China.

With the listing of China Minsheng Bank, Lu Feng's net worth skyrocketed. Forbes repeatedly called Lu Feng, hoping he would accept being listed, since it was a testament to his strength in China. Lu Feng didn't care about these things, especially since he had already been in the limelight for the past ten years.

The following days were mainly spent keeping a low profile.

Aside from a few important meetings, Lu Feng rarely appears in the media, but even so, it doesn't stop some people from causing trouble.

The release of Forbes' latest global rich list in 2005 instantly sparked heated discussions on the Chinese internet. Lu Feng ranked third globally and first in Asia with assets of US$38 billion. According to the exchange rate, Forbes estimated Lu Feng's net worth at 300 billion RMB.

The news quickly caused an uproar on Tianya Forum. Young people were surprised by this person they had hardly heard of, not expecting that there was such a wealthy person in China. However, some older people knew Lu Feng very well and posted on the forum calling him the "TV King" of yesteryear.

Various media outlets put Lu Feng's leg in the spotlight, but the controversy didn't last long. All the major media outlets stopped talking about it, and only some rumors remained on the internet.

Even Lu Feng himself doesn't know the exact amount of his assets. The valuations of his 37 companies fluctuate daily. If calculated based on their peak market value, the companies he has invested in, including those in banking, securities, semiconductors, telecommunications, and the internet, are not much different.

In 2006, Hurricane Semiconductor strengthened its ties with the global semiconductor industry and achieved innovation in many areas. The international environment improved slightly, but the suppression of Chinese companies remained the main approach. Lu Feng demanded that semiconductor companies take the initiative in the international arena.

If acquisitions are possible, then acquisitions should be made; if acquisitions are not possible, then cooperation should be strengthened. We should strive to achieve a level of interdependence in various industries. No single company can compete with the entire industry. What Lu Feng can do is to enable Hurricane Semiconductor to have more core technologies, at least to become an important part of the global division of labor and cooperation.
