Chapter 10 Submitting Articles to the Newspaper

After running out of the workshop, Feng Haidong was pushing his bicycle toward the factory gate when he happened to run into the factory manager who was entering.

Factory director Nian Pengfei watched Feng Haidong push the cart out, and ultimately could not turn a blind eye.

"Hey Feng Haidong, you're only coming for half a day now, what, you're not even planning to stay for half a day in the morning anymore?"

Nian Pengfei was already over fifty years old. In the first two years after becoming the factory director, he was indeed very decisive and brought new vitality to the machinery factory. He brought back many orders from other places, making the factory very prosperous for a while.

However, in the past two years, more and more small factories from other places have emerged, and the competition has become increasingly fierce.

Although Feng Haidong's machinery factory was a large factory, its processing equipment was too outdated, and it eventually lost out in the competition.

Even with a capable factory director like Nian Pengfei, there was still a sense of helplessness in turning the tide.

Feng Haidong had a very good impression of Nian Pengfei in his previous life.

On the one hand, I greatly admire Nian Pengfei's enterprising spirit when he was the factory director.

On the other hand, it was also because Nian Pengfei treated his workers well.

When the factory went bankrupt and was acquired, it secured relatively favorable conditions for the factory workers.

Now that he has met Factory Director Nian, Feng Haidong is inclined to say something to remind him.

But then I thought, given the impending surge of the tide, I might not even be able to go against the current now, so what right do I have to give advice to others?

Instead of saying what he was about to say, Feng Haidong said with a smile, "Good morning, Director Nian. This isn't exactly absenteeism. I've already clocked in, and I'm just going to the newspaper office. I'll be back in a bit."

Upon hearing that Feng Haidong was going to the newspaper office, Nian Pengfei asked with a smile, "Is there another new article?"

Feng Haidong nodded: "Yes, I wrote it yesterday on a whim. I was thinking of sending it to the newspaper this morning, maybe I could get some meat in return."

Nian Pengfei then asked, "Did you ask for leave?"

Feng Haidong immediately said, "It just so happens that I ran into you, Director Nian. I'd like to ask for leave. I'm going to the newspaper office and will be back in an hour."

Nian Pengfei couldn't help but laugh and said, "You sure know how to find opportunities, don't you? If you hadn't run into me, would you have stayed home and not asked for leave? You weren't planning to come back this morning either?"

Feng Haidong quickly replied, "How could that be? I'm definitely coming back."

Nian Pengfei also understood that there was no work in the factory now, and many of the workers were either doing private work in the factory or sneaking out during work hours to find something else to do.

Everyone has their own difficulties, so Nian Pengfei usually turns a blind eye to things.

"Alright, hurry back."

Seeing that the factory director had agreed, Feng Haidong smiled and said, "Okay, thank you, Director Nian."

Then, Feng Haidong pushed his bicycle out of the factory gate, jumped on, pedaled hard, and headed towards the city newspaper office.

I rode my bicycle to the front of the newspaper office.

This wasn't Feng Haidong's first visit; he was already familiar with the newspaper's security guards.

As he pushed his bicycle through the gate, he didn't forget to greet the gatekeeper: "Good morning, buddy."

When the gatekeeper saw Feng Haidong pushing his bicycle in, he immediately said, "Wang Quan seems to have gone out. If you're looking for him, you'll probably be disappointed."

Feng Haidong stopped in his tracks, taken aback: "Wang Quan isn't here?"

The gatekeeper replied, "Yes, he just went out not long ago. If you had come a little earlier, you might have run into him."

Wang Quan was probably Feng Haidong's closest friend at the newspaper.

The two became friends through their shared love of literature.

When Feng Haidong's first submission was published by the newspaper, the editor at the time was Wang Quan. The two gradually became acquainted over time.

Later, Wang Quan practically became Feng Haidong's personal editor. Whenever Feng submitted a manuscript, Wang Quan would just glance at it and publish it without making many changes.

If Wang Quan weren't here today, Feng Haidong couldn't help but feel a little worried about the manuscript he had brought.

The article did, after all, criticize some issues.

Without Wang Quan, getting the article published smoothly might be somewhat difficult.

After all, this is not the era of information overload and clickbait headlines that will follow in the future.

Nowadays, print media, especially newspapers, take into account the social impact of their articles, and the editorial review process is relatively strict.

Just as Feng Haidong was feeling somewhat worried and hesitant in front of the newspaper office,

Suddenly I heard a voice behind me.

"Who are you? Why are you blocking the doorway?"

Feng Haidong turned his head to look when he heard the sound.

Seeing the person behind him, he immediately smiled: "Editor-in-Chief Fang, you're here so early today?"

When Fang Yong, the newspaper's editor-in-chief, saw Feng Haidong turn around to greet him, a smile appeared on his face: "Oh, it's Feng Haidong? Here to see Wang Quan? I think Wang Quan has an interview today?"

Feng Haidong immediately said, "Yes, I heard from the gatekeeper that he just went out. I was just wondering who to submit the manuscript to. It's perfect that you're here, Editor-in-Chief Fang. Why don't you take a moment to review it for me?"

Fang Yong thought for a moment and said with a smile, "Okay, I don't have anything to do in the morning anyway, let's go in."

Feng Haidong quickly pushed his bicycle inside and parked it in the newspaper office's bicycle shed with Fang Yong.

As Fang Yong led Feng Haidong through the door, he kept saying, "Little Feng, you've been quite prolific lately. I've read some of your previous works, and they're all excellent. They're witty and humorous, yet also thought-provoking. Your writing style is quite good."

Feng Haidong quickly replied, "Thank you for your praise, Editor-in-Chief Fang. I just write down some reflections on life in my spare time, and my writing skills are still quite rudimentary. I need to learn more from you, Editor-in-Chief Fang."
