When Feng Haidong and Lu Wanling heard their mother say this, they understood why their mother was unhappy whenever they came back and mentioned their eldest sister's family.
Clearly, the eldest sister, Feng Yunhua, knew about Feng Haidong's crayfish business.
As you probably know, Feng Haidong asked Feng Baoan to help him collect crayfish from various villages in the town.
The fact that the eldest sister, Feng Yunhua, came to visit must mean that her restless brother-in-law, Feng Haidong, also wants to get involved in the crayfish business.
Seeing that her mother was angry, Feng Yunhua quickly changed her strategy: "Mom, Haidong and Wanling came back together today. I brought Xiaojie with me. I just wanted to see Xiaojie's uncle so that Xiaojie could take his little brother to play. I also came back to help you cook for them."
Liu Guifen showed absolutely no appreciation for her eldest daughter's words.
"I don't need you to help me cook. I want to cook for my eldest grandson and my eldest grandson-in-law myself."
Her mother's words left Feng Yunhua speechless.
Feng Haidong quickly smoothed things over: "Alright, alright, Mom, my eldest sister is just worried about you. Now that she's back and Wanling is here, let's help Mom cook together."
Hearing her son's words, Liu Guifen immediately laughed: "I heard your father say before that Haidong's cooking skills are excellent. So why don't you cook today, Haidong? Your nephew is here too, so let him try his uncle's cooking."
Feng Haidong laughed and said, "Okay, then don't interfere at noon today, I'll do it."
Feng Yunhua was somewhat surprised: "What? Hai Dong can cook now?"
Surprised, Feng Yunhua also looked at her sister-in-law.
Lu Wanling said somewhat embarrassedly, "I've been quite busy at work lately, and Haidong's factory doesn't have much work right now, so Haidong has been cooking for my son and me at home every day."
Liu Guifen held her daughter-in-law's hand and said, "Wanling, you're busy with work, so just focus on yours. Anyway, Haidong doesn't have any work at the factory every day, so let him cook for you and the two of you. I think that's a good idea, at least you and Fanfan can have a hot meal when you come home every day."
Although Feng Haidong's parents returned to their hometown town after retiring.
However, Feng Haidong's parents both used to work in the district.
Feng Haidong's father works at the district court, and his mother also works in the district government.
Therefore, Feng Haidong's parents were not like the elderly people in the town and village who had old ideas of favoring sons over daughters, and they treated their children equally.
If there was any favoritism involved, Feng Haidong's father might have favored his daughters a little more.
This is why, after Feng Haidong's brother-in-law committed several offenses, his father would personally go to the police station to use his connections to get him released.
After all, the father still loves his daughter and doesn't want his son-in-law's actions to affect his daughter's family life.
However, the father's actions only made the eldest son-in-law feel a little emboldened.
Because of this, Feng Haidong's mother often argued with his father.
Even though the father had already made good promises when the mother was arguing, he still couldn't help but step in whenever his eldest son-in-law got into trouble and his eldest daughter came to the house to talk about it.
Feng Haidong knew that this was also the reason why his mother was dissatisfied with his eldest sister and brother-in-law.
Fortunately, my brother-in-law is now middle-aged and his son is in high school. He has gradually become much more mature and no longer causes trouble outside as often as before.
Because they didn't have any patriarchal ideas, they learned that Feng Haidong cooked for his wife and children at home.
The eldest sister, Feng Yunhua, was somewhat surprised, and even wanted to speak up for her brother's wife.
However, the mother did not feel that there was anything wrong with it; on the contrary, she thought that her son did a good thing.
Liu Guifen continued, "Alright, since you're all back today, let Haidong cook us a nice meal. Your dad just bought some fresh river shrimp at the market yesterday but hasn't cooked them yet. Haidong, you can cook them for lunch too. There are plenty of vegetables in the garden, and the meat is ready too."
After listening to his mother's words, Feng Haidong smiled and said, "Alright, eldest sister, Wanling, you two come inside with Mom and chat. I'll take care of the kitchen today, and you can just wait for lunch."
Feng Qifan couldn't help but ask, "Dad, can I go out and play with Brother Xiaojie?"
Feng Haidong smiled and looked at his nephew, Fang Jie.
Fang Jie appeared very mature, speaking like a little adult: "Uncle Dong, don't worry, we won't go far."
Feng Haidong said, "It's okay, it's fine if you go far away. Go have fun, just remember to come back for lunch."
As he spoke, Feng Haidong took out ten yuan and gave it to his nephew Fang Jie.
Before his nephew could speak, Feng Haidong said, "Take the money. If you see anything good to eat on the street, you two brothers can buy it. You can also buy anything fun, but remember not to spend it recklessly, and don't eat too much. Otherwise, you won't be able to eat lunch, and that would be a waste of all the trouble your uncle has gone through."
Liu Guifen said, "Alright, your uncle gave it to you, so just take it and go play with your brother."
Fang Jie accepted the money after hearing his grandmother's words, and then took Feng Qifan out to play.
The children went out to play, and Lu Wanling and her eldest sister accompanied their mother into the house. Feng Haidong then picked some fresh vegetables from his parents' garden and went into his parents' kitchen.
Not long after Feng Haidong went into the kitchen, his older sister, Feng Yunhua, rushed in, saying she wanted to help him.
Feng Haidong naturally understood his elder sister's intention: she still wanted to find a job for her husband.
So before his older sister could speak, Feng Haidong said first, "Sister, if your brother-in-law really wants a job, then he should go directly to Uncle Bao'an. Uncle Bao'an is in charge of collecting crayfish from the villages in this town."
