Chapter 18 Becoming a Wife's Support

Feng Haidong's demand for 20 boxes really surprised Lu Wanling and Mei Yaqin.

Lu Wanling quickly came to her senses, stepped forward and grabbed her husband, saying, "Are you crazy? What are you going to do with so many? Are you really planning to send a box to every household in your factory?"

Feng Haidong said, "Do you think your husband is stupid? With so many people in the factory, how could you possibly give each family a box for free? They would definitely have to pay for it."

Lu Wanling also felt that her husband wouldn't give them away for nothing, but she still didn't understand why he had to bring back 20 boxes at once.

Mei Yaqin snapped out of her daze and, after a moment's thought, asked, "Haidong, are you planning to take it back and sell it?"

Upon hearing this, Lu Wanling quickly said before her husband could speak, "What is he selling? He's never done business before, how would he know how to sell?"

Feng Haidong did not get angry when his wife interrupted him after she finished speaking.

He smiled and said, "Sister Mei is right, I really do plan to take it back and try selling it."

Lu Wanling looked at her husband in disbelief.

Mei Yaqin was also somewhat incredulous.

In their eyes, Feng Haidong has always been an ordinary worker, and because he likes to write, he has a bit of a literary temperament in his bones, so he should look down on doing business, and even despise and reject doing business.

But now, Feng Haidong's words have overturned their preconceived notions.

Feng Haidong actually decided to take back 20 cases of beer to try and sell them.

He looked incredulous when he saw his wife and Mei Yaqin.

Feng Haidong said with a smile, "I don't know if it will work, so I thought I'd take 20 boxes back to try first. Sister Mei, you don't have to worry about it. I'll pay for these 20 boxes."

Lu Wanling finally realized that her husband wasn't joking; he really was going to try his hand at business.

Lu Wanling quickly pulled her husband out of the warehouse and whispered, "What are you thinking? Are you really planning to go into business?"

Feng Haidong laughed and asked his wife, "What's wrong? Can't your husband do business?"

Before his wife could reply, Feng Haidong continued, "I've thought about it. Our factory is really doing very poorly right now. I heard from my coworkers in the workshop today that we might not be able to get paid on time next month. Rather than just staying here in the factory like this, I think we should find a way out."

After hearing her husband's words, Lu Wanling looked at him with even greater disbelief.

Because her husband's behavior now is completely different from what she remembered.

Based on Lu Wanling's understanding of her husband after so many years of marriage, she felt that he was always the kind of person who was obsessed with saving face, and many times he ended up suffering losses because of it.

In the past, a husband would never have gone into business for the sake of his reputation.

Not to mention things like selling beer.

Lu Wanling thought for a moment and said, "But even our sales staff can't sell them. Do you really think you can sell better than them?"

Feng Haidong said, "I can't say for sure, but we should always give it a try. Besides, your company has a lot of beer piling up right now, right? This is a good opportunity. I can get some experience and maybe find a new way to make money for our family."

These words naturally persuaded his wife.

Seeing that his wife was still hesitant, Feng Haidong immediately said, "It's just a try. It's only 20 cases of beer. If we can't sell them, I'll just ask one or a few of the factories to buy one case each and get my money back."

After her husband said that, Lu Wanling finally nodded in agreement.

"Okay, if you want to try it, then take 20 boxes back and give it a shot."

Feng Haidong smiled and said, "Thank you, wife."

Lu Wanling chided, "We're an old married couple, why are you saying thank you?"

When the couple returned to the warehouse, Mei Yaqin could tell that they had already discussed it.

Mei Yaqin, wanting to do him a favor, said, "Haidong, if you really want to take them back and try selling them, how about this: Wanling and I will vouch for you. You take the 20 boxes back first, and if you can sell them, you can bring the cost back and we'll settle the accounts."

If you can't sell them all in the end, you can just bring the rest of the beer back, and you won't need to pay in advance. After all, 20 cases isn't a small amount of money.

Lu Wanling still asked with some concern, "Sister Yaqin, is this okay?"

Mei Yaqin laughed and said, "Why not? Do you think those salespeople pay upfront? Don't they take it out to sell first, and then pay us back after they've sold it all?"

Feng Haidong said with a smile, "Thank you so much for your help, Sister Mei."

Mei Yaqin said, "What's there to thank me for? Besides, even if I didn't show up, with your Wanling vouching for you, would the leaders really stop us from taking those 20 cases of beer away?"

Then, as Mei Yaqin had instructed, Feng Haidong loaded 20 cases of beer onto the tricycle and tied them up with rope.

After everything was ready, Feng Haidong still asked the warehouse manager at his wife's workplace to issue the invoice.

As for providing a guarantee, Feng Haidong had Mei Yaqin act as the guarantor, instead of having his wife act as the guarantor.

After all the formalities were completed, Lu Wanling helped push her husband from behind, seeing him off at the gate of his workplace.

At the gate, Lu Wanling looked at her husband sitting on the tricycle and couldn't help but say, "Haidong, if it's hard to sell, you should talk to people nicely. Don't get anxious or upset. If it really doesn't work, we'll just send these 20 boxes back."

Upon hearing his wife's words, Feng Haidong chuckled and said, "Send it back? Since I, Feng Haidong, have taken it out, I have no intention of sending it back. Don't worry, wife, I'll be back soon."

Then, as he was about to leave, Feng Haidong pulled his wife to his side and, in a low, very serious voice, instructed her: "Don't tell anyone about your pregnancy, not even Sister Mei."
