Feng Haidong pushed his cart and arrived at the night market with his wife and son.
Because we arrived early today, there weren't many people at the night market yet. Sun Yongxing and his wife seemed to have just arrived as well, and were still busy setting up tables and chairs.
Feng Haidong placed the cart next to Sun Yongxing's stove, then greeted Sun Yongxing and his wife and helped them set up the table and chairs.
When Sun Yongxing saw Feng Haidong and his family of three arrive, he responded with a smile.
"Brother Feng, you've come too."
Feng Haidong said, "Yes, I was thinking of coming here early today to see if I could sell more."
Lu Wanling had her son stand by the stroller while she helped her husband, and she also chatted with Zhao Hongxia.
Looking at Lu Wanling's work clothes, Zhao Hongxia smiled and asked, "Sister-in-law, you look quite neat today. It's obviously work attire."
Lu Wanling said with a smile, "I didn't change my clothes when I came last night, please forgive me, brother and sister-in-law."
Zhao Hongxia said, "There's nothing to laugh about. To be honest, when I first started doing business, I was quite embarrassed. At first, my husband, Lao Sun, was the only one who did all the work and greeted the customers. I was too embarrassed to talk to them."
At this point, Zhao Hongxia praised Lu Wanling, saying, "Sister-in-law, you are better than me. Last night I saw you standing in front of the cart, greeting the guests quite well."
Lu Wanling responded, "It's probably because I work in finance at my company, and I often have to go to many places and meet a lot of people, so I'm not very stage-frightened."
After saying this, Lu Wanling lowered her voice and leaned closer to Zhao Hongxia, saying, "Sister-in-law, I was actually quite embarrassed yesterday. When I first greeted the guests, my voice was trembling a little."
Zhao Hongxia laughed: "Hahaha, that's normal. You've really done a great job, sister-in-law."
The two families chatted as they set up the table and chairs.
Then Sun Yongxing started cooking and prepared two dishes, and the two families sat down together for dinner.
Feng Haidong also served himself a plate of crayfish and a plate of salt and pepper shrimp tails, and opened two bottles of beer, one for himself and one for Sun Yongxing.
Feng Haidong first toasted Sun Yongxing and his wife: "Brother and sister-in-law, on behalf of our whole family, I would like to toast you."
Seeing this, Sun Yongxing smiled and said, "Brother, why are you being so polite?"
Despite saying that, Sun Yongxing still picked up the wine bottle and clinked it against Feng Haidong's.
Then the two of them tilted their heads back and took a big gulp.
After drinking, Feng Haidong continued, "Brother Sun, to be honest with you and your wife, before I came to set up a stall, I was actually quite worried. I was worried that I would be ostracized if I set up a stall here. It's really fortunate that I met you and your wife, Brother Sun, so that I can set up a stall next to you."
Lu Wanling also picked up her teacup and said, "Let me offer you a toast, sister-in-law. Let's use this tea instead of wine."
Seeing this, Zhao Hongxia smiled and said, "Sister-in-law, don't be so polite. We'll just have some water, and let the two grown men drink."
Sun Yongxing was naturally happy to see that his wife and Lu Wanling got along well.
"Brother Haidong, to tell you the truth, your sister-in-law and I are not as educated as you and your wife. We are not highly educated, so your sister-in-law and I became friends based on feeling. When we first met your family of three, we felt very close to each other."
Zhao Hongxia said, "Yes, yes, the first time we met, I felt that your family was very nice and made me feel very comfortable."
Feng Haidong and Lu Wanling looked at each other and smiled, saying, "Thank you for the compliment, brother and sister-in-law."
Sun Yongxing then looked at Feng Qifan and said, "Brother Haidong and sister-in-law, you can see that at our age, your sister-in-law and I must have children who are quite grown up. But as you can see, our son has never shown up here while we're setting up this stall, has he?"
Upon hearing this, Feng Haidong exchanged a glance with his wife.
Then he saw that Zhao Hongxia's expression had also become somewhat unpleasant.
Feng Haidong asked in a low voice, "Brother, sister-in-law, is there something wrong with the children in the family?"
Zhao Hongxia covered her mouth, looking sad, clearly unable to say what she was saying.
Sun Yongxing hesitated for a moment, then sighed and said, "I'm embarrassed to say it, but my son is a scoundrel."
Upon hearing Sun Yongxing say that his son was "not doing proper work," Feng Haidong immediately understood.
This suggests that Sun Yongxing and Zhao Hongxia's son is lazy, somewhat averse to work, and may even be associating with street thugs.
Feng Haidong thought for a moment and asked, "Brother, sister-in-law, how old is your son this year?"
Sun Yongxing said, "I'm already eighteen this year. I never studied properly when I was little. I didn't even finish junior high school and just dropped out. I hang out with a bunch of hooligans on the street all day."
Zhao Hongxia also chimed in, "This is also our fault. When our child was young, we were often away from home because of work, and he was left with his maternal grandparents without anyone to take care of him. Later, when my husband and I returned from out of town, we faced many problems and were again too busy to take care of him."
Lu Wanling said, "Brother and sister-in-law, don't worry. Teenagers are indeed difficult to manage. Be patient and communicate with them more. I believe things will get better gradually."
Sun Yongxing picked up the bottle, tilted his head back, and drank the entire bottle in one gulp, then let out a heavy sigh.
“Brother Haidong, sister-in-law, your sister-in-law and I are truly envious of your family. You two support each other so well, and your son is so sensible that he doesn’t look down on his parents for setting up a stall on the street.”
