Chapter 63: Deciding to Cooperate with Feng Baoan

Feng Haidong led his son out of the village chief Feng Shumin's house. Before the father and son had gone far, Feng Baoan followed from behind.

"Haidong, Haidong, you two wait for me."

Hearing the shouts behind him, Feng Haidong could only pull his son to a stop.

Feng Baoan caught up with the father and son, carrying the things Feng Haidong had brought him. He said with a serious expression, "Haidong, don't bring these things next time you come. We're from the same village, no need to be so polite."

Feng Haidong said with a smile, "Uncle, you're too kind. You've helped your nephew so much, how can it not be okay for your nephew to buy some cigarettes, alcohol and fruit?"

Feng Baoan could only laugh sheepishly upon hearing this.

Feng Qifan, standing nearby, added, "Grandpa Bao'an, please accept these things. Consider it a gift from my parents and me. Thank you, Grandpa Bao'an, for bringing us shrimp."

Feng Baoan smiled helplessly and said, "Alright, then Grandpa Baoan will accept it this time, but you can't bring it next time you come."

Feng Qifan turned to look at his father.

Feng Haidong chuckled and said, "Okay, I won't bring it next time."

Hearing this, Feng Baoan was relieved and led the father and son, saying, "Come on, let's go to Grandpa Baoan's house for a while. Didn't Qifan want to go shrimp fishing? I'll get you the tools when I get home, and your uncle will take you there."

Feng Haidong pulled his son along and said, "Let's go, let's go to your grandpa's house in Bao'an first."

The father and son followed Feng Baoan all the way to his home.

Feng Baoan led the father and son into the house, calling out to his family at the same time.

"Come out, everyone! Come out and see who's here!"

At Feng Baoan's call, a middle-aged woman quickly came out with a boy and a girl.

Seeing his family still standing there in a daze, Feng Baoan said to the middle-aged woman, "Look at you, what are you still standing there for? This is Haidong. Didn't you hear everyone in the village shouting that my brother Chun Gu and Haidong have arrived?"

The middle-aged woman quickly stepped forward and said, "Oh, so this is Haidong? Come in and sit down."

Feng Haidong smiled and replied to the middle-aged woman, "Auntie, don't be so polite."

The aunt then said to her daughter and son, "Shulan, Shuyong, come on, this is your brother Haidong. Haven't you heard your dad talk about him all the time? Now that you see him, say hello."

The older daughter, however, very generously stepped forward to greet him: "Hello, Brother Haidong."

Feng Haidong responded: "Hello, you're in middle school now, right?"

The girl, Feng Shulan, responded, "Yes, I'm in my first year of high school."

The boy was a little reserved at first, but when he saw his sister take the initiative to greet him, and Feng Haidong was also smiling and very friendly, he also stepped forward to say hello: "Hello, Brother Haidong."

Feng Haidong smiled and said, "Hello to you too."

Then Feng Haidong said to his son, "Qifan, greet them. Say hello to Grandma, and this is your aunt and uncle."

Feng Qifan first called her Grandma, and then he also called her Aunt.

But this last uncle, who didn't look much older than him, naturally made him hesitate a little.

When Feng Haidong saw that his son didn't call him "Uncle," he laughed and said, "Didn't you want your uncle to take you shrimp fishing? Why aren't you greeting him?"

Upon hearing this, Feng Qifan immediately greeted, "Hello, Uncle."

Being called "uncle" made the boy, Feng Shuyong, a little embarrassed.

In fact, Feng Shuyong is not much older than Feng Qifan; the two children can be considered to be the same age.

Feng Baoan handed the things he had brought back to his wife and said, "Cook a few more dishes tonight. I'll invite Brother Chun Gu and the village chief over later, and we'll treat them to a good meal tonight."

Feng Baoan's wife took the things her husband brought back and agreed, saying, "Okay, I know."

Feng Haidong quickly said, "Auntie, don't worry. Uncle, we won't eat in the village tonight. We'll go back home in the evening. My mom makes delicious food for her grandson at home. If we don't go back to eat tonight, the two of them won't be able to finish it after we leave."

Seeing that Feng Baoan still wanted to persuade him to stay, Feng Haidong said, "Uncle, let's not eat in the village today. Let's visit each other often in the future. Next time I come back, I will definitely eat at your house."

Hearing Feng Haidong say this, Feng Baoan could only nod in agreement: "Okay."

Later that afternoon, Feng Baoan and his son Feng Shuyong, along with Feng Haidong and his son Feng Qifan, took their shrimp fishing gear and went to fish for shrimp in the stream.

On the way there, Feng Qifan and Feng Shuyong gradually became acquainted, and the two boys chatted happily.

Since the two boys were the same age, there was no distinction of seniority between them when they were together; they chatted and laughed like two friends.

Feng Qifan also shared interesting stories about school in the city with Feng Shuyong.

Feng Shuyong was quite eager to hear this.

Feng Shuyong shared with Feng Qifan all sorts of fun things to do in the countryside, such as playing in the fields, going up the mountains, or swimming in the ditches.

Feng Haidong and Feng Baoan walked behind, watching the two boys chatting and laughing, and they were also very happy.

Feng Haidong said, "Uncle, my son grew up in the city and this is his first time coming back to the countryside. It's so nice to be in the village. Unlike the city, where the ground is all concrete and it hurts your feet after walking for a while."

Feng Baoan said, "That's because you've been in the city for too long. If you stay in the village for a long time, you'll yearn for city life."

Feng Haidong laughed and said, "Uncle, you're absolutely right. This is the 'besieged city effect': people inside want to get out, while people outside want to get in."

After listening to Feng Haidong's words, Feng Baoan said, "Haidong, you are an educated person, and I don't quite understand what you are saying. Haidong, there is something I would like to ask for your opinion on."
