Chapter 64 Giving My Son a Happy Childhood

Feng Qifan followed his uncle, who was only a few years older than him, out of the village along the dirt road, and then, led by his uncle, walked along the edge of the fields for a while.

This journey allowed Feng Qifan to witness the real scenes of a rural village for the first time.

Feng Qifan was born in the city and had almost never been to the village since he was a child.

Even when we go back to our grandparents' house for holidays, we stay in the town.

Today, I came to the village with my grandfather and father, and I really saw so many amazing things.

It also allowed him to see a completely different side of the village, the town, and even the city.

The roads in the village are not like those in towns and cities, which are all paved with cement and asphalt.

The roads in the village are almost all dirt roads, except for the area near the center of the village, which is paved with large bluestones, making the stone road surface very uneven.

Once you leave the village, the road is all dirt, but the surface is very smooth.

On both sides of the dirt road, there are tall poplar and willow trees.

Walking on the street was also very interesting for Feng Qifan.

Then you walk along the paddy field ridges, which are very narrow, almost only wide enough for one person to walk on. On one side of the ridges are paddy fields filled with water.

At this time, the fields are covered with lush green rice paddies. Although they are not tall, they look boundless and are quite beautiful.

Standing on the edge of the paddy field, Feng Qifan looked out over the entire expanse of rice paddies and couldn't help but exclaim, "This place is so beautiful!"

Upon hearing Feng Qifan's words, Feng Shuyong turned around and said, "What's so beautiful about this? The fields outside the village are all like this, year after year."

Feng Qifan said, "I think it's very beautiful. It's a pity I don't have a camera, otherwise it would definitely be very beautiful when I take a picture."

Feng Shuyong was too lazy to continue talking to Feng Qifan, so he could only say as he walked forward, "Hurry up, that's where I usually fish for shrimp. Let me tell you, that's my spot. I don't tell anyone, not even my dad knows. The shrimp in that ditch are really big."

Feng Qifan immediately became interested: "Really?"

Feng Shuyong said, "Of course, let's go."

The two boys continued running along the paddy field ridge, and soon after crossing it, they arrived at a small pond not far from the paddy field.

Feng Shuyong did not go to the pond, but instead went to a long ditch next to the pond.

"Look, this is it. I'm telling you, there are so many shrimp here, and they're huge."

Feng Qifan looked towards the pond and asked, somewhat puzzled, "Why don't we go fishing over there? Shouldn't there be plenty of fish in the pond?"

Feng Shuyong laughed and said, "Haha, you really don't know anything? Crayfish don't stay in ponds; they prefer to live in these kinds of ditches."

As soon as Feng Shuyong finished speaking, Feng Haidong and Feng Baoan arrived.

Feng Haidong also told his son, "Although crayfish live in water, they usually don't live in very deep water. Small ditches and canals like these have more mud, which is more suitable for their survival."

Feng Shuyong said, "Yes, yes, Brother Haidong is right."

After saying that, Feng Shuyong put down the small iron bucket he had brought, then rolled up his pants, took off his shoes, and prepared to go down into the ditch.

Feng Qifan was somewhat surprised to see this: "Uncle, what are you planning to do? Are you still going to go down and retrieve it?"

Feng Shuyong said, "No, I'm going to catch some bait, otherwise how am I supposed to fish for shrimp?"

Feng Qifan was a little puzzled: "Catching bait?"

Seeing this, Feng Haidong said, "Shuyong, be careful."

Feng Shuyong smiled and said, "Brother Haidong, don't worry, I'm fine."

Upon hearing his son's words, Feng Baoan scolded him, "How dare you speak to your elder brother like that? I told you to be careful, so be careful."

Seeing that his father had spoken, Feng Shuyong could only reluctantly agree: "Okay, I understand."

Feng Haidong smiled and said, "Uncle, it's alright."

Soon, Feng Shuyong searched the ditch and caught two small frogs, as well as a few small fish and shrimp.

He threw them all into the small metal bucket and said with a smile, "That's enough."

Feng Qifan still didn't quite understand how to catch shrimp with all these things in the bucket.

Feng Haidong smiled as he demonstrated some techniques to his son.

"Look, these small fish and shrimp can be gutted, then tied to the fishing rod like this, and put into the ditch to catch them."

Feng Qifan was somewhat surprised to see his father handle the situation; he hadn't expected it to be handled in this way.

Feng Shuyong came up from the ditch and said, "Brother Haidong, so you can do that too?"

Upon hearing this, Feng Haidong laughed and said, "Of course! Actually, the best way to catch crayfish is with chicken intestines and chicken fat. Tie those things to the fishing rod and throw them into a ditch. They will quickly attract a lot of crayfish."

Feng Shuyong said, "Yes, crayfish especially like those things."

Feng Haidong then added, "However, if we don't have those things, we can actually use other things instead, such as this frog, which would also be very good."

As he spoke, Feng Haidong tore the two frogs apart with his hands.

Feng Qifan watched in astonishment as his father peeled off the frog's skin, tore the meat apart, and tied it to the fishing rod line.

What terrified Feng Qifan the most was that although the baby had been torn apart, the flesh seemed to still be moving.

Seeing that Feng Qifan was startled, Feng Shuyong laughed and said, "Haha, what's so scary about that? The bloody smell of a torn frog is very attractive to crayfish."

Feng Qifan couldn't help but ask his father, "Dad, aren't frogs beneficial?"

Feng Haidong thought for a moment and nodded to his son, saying, "Indeed, frogs are beneficial, but we're only catching two. It's okay. There should be plenty of frogs here, not far from the pond."
