Chapter 65 A Little Bit of Pleasure at My Parents' House

As evening falls and the sun sets, standing at the village entrance of Feng Village, which is a bit higher than the rest of the village, one can see rows of houses with wisps of smoke rising from their chimneys, arranged in a pleasing, staggered pattern amidst the surrounding farmland.

Further away, at the edge of the village's farmland, a row of poplar trees stands along the riverbank.

The bright red sun was about to sink into the river, like a large red lantern hanging on a poplar tree.

Feng Qifan stood on a high point at the village entrance, his face flushed red from the sunlight, his expression filled with surprise.

The beautiful sunset scenery before my eyes is something I've never seen in the city.

Even if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, Feng Qifan probably wouldn't have been able to imagine such a scene.

As the villagers saw them off, Feng Haidong and his father led their son away from the village, carrying even more things in their hands than when they arrived.

The villagers didn't give us anything valuable, just some soybeans, millet, dried taro, and pickled vegetables that the village had made in winter.

Of course, there were also fish caught by villagers from the distant river, and crayfish that Feng Qifan and his uncle caught together.

Feng Shumin and Feng Baoan told most of the villagers to go back first, and the two of them escorted Feng Haidong and the others to the village entrance.

Feng Baoan's son, Feng Shuyong, also came to see him off. At this moment, he said to Feng Qifan with reluctance, "Feng Qifan, you must come and visit again when you have time."

Feng Qifan smiled and agreed, "Okay, I'll come visit with Grandpa and Dad when I have a holiday."

Feng Shuyong said, "Then come during summer vacation, and I'll take you swimming in the river during summer vacation."

Feng Qifan agreed: "Okay, I will definitely come and go swimming with you, Uncle."

Feng Haidong was very pleased to see that the two boys had quickly established a good friendship after an afternoon.

Feng Haidong had initially wondered if his son, who had never lived in the countryside before, would be able to adapt.

Now it seems that my previous worries were completely unnecessary.

Feng Chungu said to Feng Shumin and Feng Baoan, "Alright, Baoan and Shumin, you should go back now. We're leaving. We'll come again when Qifan has a holiday next time."

Feng Shumin said, "Okay, Uncle, you must come again."

Feng Baoan also said, "Brothers, remember to come back often."

Then Feng Baoan said to Feng Haidong, "Haidong, I'll prepare the shrimp you ordered for you first thing tomorrow morning."

Feng Haidong said with a smile, "Okay, Uncle Bao'an, bring the shrimp to this intersection at ten o'clock tomorrow morning. I'll find a car in town to turn around here and pick up the shrimp, so you won't have to deliver them to town."

Feng Shumin said, "Haidong, the shrimp farming thing you mentioned, I'm afraid we'll have to wait a little longer."

Feng Haidong said, "Brother Shumin, it's okay. There's no rush now. We'll organize people in the village to try raising crayfish once it becomes a big trend in the city."

After waiting a while on the main road at the village entrance, a bus heading to the town finally arrived.

Feng Haidong and Feng Baoan loaded all the items into the car first.

Then Feng Chungu helped his grandson Feng Qifan into the car.

Feng Baoan quickly got out of the car and, together with Feng Shumin and Feng Shuyong, waved goodbye to the three generations of the family in the car.

Feng Haidong and his group waved goodbye from the car and then took a bus away from the village entrance.

The three generations of the family returned home, and it was almost completely dark.

The grandmother, who was waiting at home, saw the three of them return and said to her husband without any politeness, "You two are really something, why didn't you come back sooner? It's already dark, I thought you were going to stay in the village overnight, what is it in the village that would make you stay so long?"

Seeing that his grandmother was a little angry, Feng Qifan quickly comforted her, saying, "Grandma, it's not Grandpa's fault. Dad and I went shrimp fishing with Grandpa Bao'an and Uncle, that's why we came back late."

As he spoke, Feng Qifan picked up the small iron bucket he had brought back and said, "Grandma, look, these are all the fish we caught this afternoon."

Seeing the crayfish in her grandson's small metal bucket, the grandmother asked curiously, "You went fishing for these things this afternoon?"

Feng Qifan said, "Yes, I think shrimp fishing is really fun, and there are all sorts of techniques involved."

Seeing her grandson so happy, Grandma stopped blaming Feng Haidong and his father. She simply pulled her grandson inside and said, "Alright, alright, go wash your hands and eat."

While eating, Grandma listened to her grandson recount his shrimp-catching adventures from the afternoon, and she kept laughing and chuckling.

It seems that just listening to her grandson makes the grandmother very happy.

After dinner, although my grandparents have a TV, there are very few channels because there is no cable TV.

Seeing that there were no cartoons he wanted to watch, Feng Qifan simply stopped watching TV and went to his grandfather's desk, where he found paper and pen and started writing.

Seeing that his son was unusually taking the initiative to write, Feng Haidong decided not to bother him.

Carrying chairs from home, Feng Haidong and his father sat down together by the small vegetable garden in the yard.

The bright moonlight shone into the spacious courtyard.

The father and son sat by the small vegetable garden, with two teacups on a stool between them.

Feng Haidong didn't forget to refill his father's cup with water.

Leaning back in his chair and looking up at the moon in the sky, Feng Haidong felt truly at ease at this moment.

However, while feeling comfortable, Feng Haidong was also well aware that this moment of comfort was only temporary, and he would have to face many problems ahead.

Feng Chungu took a sip of tea and spoke first: "Haidong, you talked to your brother Shumin in the village about raising crayfish. Do you really think it's worth raising them?"

When his father asked this question, Feng Haidong thought for a moment and said, "Dad, I think it's possible. Although there aren't many people eating it in the city yet, I think crayfish will gradually become popular. I've noticed it at the night market; recently, some regular customers have started eating it every day."
