Feng Haidong put his arm around his wife and pulled his son along. As they walked, he whispered in his wife's ear, "Don't forget, if you want to compete for the position of section chief, your biggest competitor is Sister Mei. Didn't you notice that Sister Mei's expression was off when we talked about the old section chief's retirement in the car?"
Lu Wanling looked at her husband with suspicion and asked, "Is that so?"
Seeing his wife's expression, Feng Haidong really wanted to say, "Silly wife."
Feng Haidong continued, "Sister Mei has long coveted the position of head of the finance department in your unit, and she is old and experienced enough. However, because of your relationship with Uncle Ding, she sees you as her biggest obstacle, understand?"
Lu Wanling's expression immediately became serious, but she still didn't quite believe that Mei Yaqin would target her.
“Actually, if Sister Mei really wants to be the section chief, and I don’t want to compete with her, then let her be the one. I’m still young, so it’s fine to let Sister Mei be the section chief first.”
Feng Haidong said, "You really are generous. Everyone else is eyeing the section chief position covetously, but you still want to give it up voluntarily."
Lu Wanling said, "It's not like I have to do it."
Feng Haidong asked in a low voice, "Have you thought about why Mei Yaqin insisted on doing it?"
These questions stumped Lu Wanling. A number of reasons came to mind, but she rejected them one by one. She still couldn't believe that Mei Yaqin could be in any bad shape.
Feng Haidong didn't want to upset his wife on his son's birthday.
He hugged his wife tightly and said, "Okay, don't overthink it. As long as we have a clear conscience, that's fine. And we should try our best to fight for what we have the ability to fight for."
Lu Wanling looked up at her husband after hearing this.
Feng Haidong said with a firm look in his eyes, "Let's not think about those things today, let's have a good time."
Just then, their son, Feng Qifan, shouted, "Mom and Dad, there are so many people at the bumper cars!"
Lu Wanling was pulled back to reality by her son's call. She nodded to her husband, then smiled and replied to her son, "It's okay, Mom will go buy the tickets. You and Dad can wait in line."
Feng Haidong led his son in line, watching his wife go to buy tickets, hoping she would understand what he meant.
