Chapter 12 A Period Full of Opportunities

After leaving the newspaper office, Feng Haidong did not return directly to the factory.

There's no work at the factory now. Even if we went back, it would just be a bunch of people chatting idly, or worrying about the factory's future and our own.

Feng Haidong had experienced this once in his previous life, so he didn't want to go back to worrying about the factory again.

Now that I have a second chance, I can't let this opportunity go to waste.

Riding his bicycle, Feng Haidong seemed to be wandering aimlessly around the city, but in reality, he was observing carefully.

The city's development seems to be just beginning. Some of the iconic buildings in the central urban area are still under construction, while others don't even have a basic plan yet.

Even so, there are still all kinds of street vendors in the city's streets and alleys, and in the central urban area.

In a relaxed and free economic environment, everyone has the same opportunities.

Unlike many years later, the market is not now gradually being monopolized and solidified.

Now everyone has the same opportunities, and can even do the same business.

Competition among market participants actually promotes market prosperity.

In the past, Feng Haidong, like most people today, wouldn't have felt anything when he saw changes on the city streets.

Just like in his previous life, he never thought of leaving the factory until it went completely bankrupt.

After the factory went bankrupt and he lost his job, he spent a long time constantly complaining.

Without his past life experiences, Feng Haidong, like most ordinary people, would not have the perspective he has today.

Now, as Feng Haidong observes the prosperity on the city streets, he can see the enormous potential hidden within it.

Perhaps when that great wave arrives in a year or two, it will indeed be a huge shock to everyone.

But similarly, there will be countless new opportunities amidst that great tide.

Having witnessed the city's transformation, Feng Haidong no longer had any complaints about the impending great tide.

It was precisely because of that great wave that the old and rigid systems were completely broken down and more intense market competition was introduced, which enabled the country to catch up with the rest of the world in the following decades.

Of course, Feng Haidong was also aware that he didn't have much capital at the moment.

He knew he couldn't possibly do what the protagonists of some rebirth novels he'd read in his past life did: plan ahead for certain high-end industries or sectors that would lead to instant wealth.

Looking at the street vendors pushing carts, Feng Haidong smiled and muttered to himself, "Although we don't have much capital and can't do any big business right now, let's start with small businesses."

Then Feng Haidong turned his bicycle around and pedaled back to the factory.

Feng Haidong had just pushed his bicycle into the factory when he ran into Factory Director Nian again.

"Director Nian has gone back?"

Seeing Feng Haidong leisurely pushing his bicycle into the factory gate, Nian Pengfei couldn't help but laugh and say, "Feng Haidong, you're quite good at timing yourself. It's almost time to get off work, and you've just made it back?"

As Feng Haidong pushed his cart through the door, he replied, "I rushed back just in time to get back before I left work."

Nian Pengfei was somewhat helpless with Feng Haidong's approach and could only ask, "How's the article coming along? When will it be published?"

Feng Haidong said confidently, "Don't worry, factory director, it should be published in the newspaper in the next day or two."

Upon hearing this, Nian Pengfei was somewhat surprised by Feng Haidong's confident demeanor: "You're quite confident, aren't you? You think it'll be in the paper tomorrow or the day after if you send it in the morning?"

Feng Haidong said, "Of course, the manuscript I submitted today was personally reviewed by the editor-in-chief."

Nian Pengfei immediately became interested: "Editor-in-chief? Is it Fang Yong?"

Feng Haidong nodded and said, "Yes, it's Editor-in-Chief Fang Yong. You also know Director Nian?"

Nian Pengfei said, "Yes, I know him. We used to work together. Later, he was transferred to the newspaper because of his good writing skills. I never expected that he would be the editor-in-chief now."

Feng Haidong added, "Factory Director, your writing is actually quite good, and you also have leadership skills, making you more well-rounded than Editor-in-Chief Fang."

Upon hearing Feng Haidong's flattery, Nian Pengfei burst into laughter: "Hahaha, Haidong, I didn't expect you to have learned this art of bootlicking now?"

Feng Haidong said, "I'm not flattering anyone; I'm just telling the truth."

Nian Pengfei was delighted to hear this and looked Feng Haidong up and down again.

He also vaguely noticed that Feng Haidong was somewhat different today.

Although Feng Haidong was a kind-hearted person in the past, he still had a bit of the pride that comes with being a scholar.

Therefore, Feng Haidong is actually not smooth enough in his dealings with people, especially when facing his superiors.

However, after meeting with Feng Haidong twice today and having two conversations, Nian Pengfei felt that Feng Haidong had become more tactful and his words were more pleasant to hear.

After thinking about it, Nian Pengfei reminded Feng Haidong.

"Haidong, you like literature, you have writing skills, and you've published quite a few articles in newspapers. Have you ever thought about transferring to work at a newspaper?"

Upon hearing the factory director's words, Feng Haidong was momentarily stunned.

His experience across two lifetimes allowed him to sense the hidden meaning in the factory manager's words.

Feng Haidong hesitated for a moment, then said with a smile, "Factory Director, are you kidding me? How could I possibly be transferred to the newspaper right now?"

Nian Pengfei sighed helplessly: "The factory now..."

The rest of the words were left unsaid, but Feng Haidong understood perfectly well what the factory director wanted to say.

Feng Haidong also figured out the meaning behind the factory director's previous words.

The subtext is that they hope Feng Haidong can find a way out for himself in advance.

Feng Haidong's smile faded, and he looked at the factory director with a serious expression, saying, "Director Nian, times have indeed changed. The country needs to accelerate its development. If our factory can't keep up with the pace of development, then the final result may be inevitable. But that inevitable result may not be a bad thing for everyone."

Nian Pengfei was somewhat surprised by Feng Haidong's words.

Nian Pengfei had experienced too much in his life, so he naturally understood the meaning behind Feng Haidong's words and could see that Feng Haidong had foreseen the factory's future fate.

This is why Nian Pengfei felt that Feng Haidong's insight was truly remarkable.

Feng Haidong concluded by saying, "Don't worry, factory director. I'm in the prime of my life now. Even if I don't work at the factory anymore, I'll definitely work hard elsewhere."

Nian Pengfei nodded: "It seems you have a well-planned path for yourself. As the factory manager, I wish you success."

Feng Haidong smiled and said, "Okay, maybe I'll need the factory manager's help in the future."

Nian Pengfei said, "Okay, as long as I can do it and it's not illegal, I'll help you."

Feng Haidong said, "Thank you, factory director."

After saying goodbye to the factory manager at the factory gate, Feng Haidong first parked his bicycle in the bike shed, and then instead of going to his own workshop, he went to the welding workshop in the factory.
