Chapter 115 Chinese New Year

Wang Peng left the provincial capital and drove back to Ping'an County.

Return the car to Li Longfei.

Tomorrow is Lunar New Year's Eve.

He opened the money box, took out a bunch of loose change, put it in his bag, and rode his bike to the farmers' market to buy New Year's goods.

Buy some door paintings and couplets, a few cabbages, and ten pounds of pork.

I rode my bike home, pasted the door sticker on the door, put on my headphones, and went to the kitchen to chop dumpling filling.

After struggling for a while until 3 p.m., I finally finished making the dumplings.

After finishing his meal, Wang Peng closed the door and lay on the bed to continue listening to music.

"My cousin got married and now she has her own family and her own life. I'll be all alone now."

Looking at the desolate house, Wang Peng smiled bitterly and simply closed the door to go to sleep.

One CD has finished playing.

His mind was hazy, and he was too lazy to change the disc, so he gradually drifted off to sleep.

I slept until the sun was high in the sky, then got up and continued making dumplings.

In the evening, I stir-fried two simple dishes, opened a bottle of baijiu (Chinese liquor), and celebrated the New Year by myself.

In his previous life, his wife died young, and he had long been used to spending the New Year alone.

After a few drinks, my mind started to fog up again.

"Brother Peng, are you home?"

Suddenly someone shouted in the courtyard.

"Mengjiao?"

"Okay, open the door."

...

Wang Peng got out of bed, put on his shoes, opened the door to the main room, and saw Li Mengjiao wearing a pink down jacket.

She was holding a bowl of dumplings in her left hand and a bag in her right.

"You haven't eaten yet, have you? My mom asked me to bring you some dumplings." Li Mengjiao placed the dumplings on the table.

"I've already eaten," Wang Peng said with a smile, rubbing his stomach. "I really can't eat anymore, you can take it away."

Li Mengjiao took a down jacket out of the bag.

It's blue and looks thick.

"Brother Peng, this is what my dad bought for you. I'm sorry about the video arcade incident."

Li Mengjiao looked apologetic.

The video arcade was doing exceptionally well, but the parents didn't want to continue the partnership and seemed to be abandoning their partner after using it.

"Haha," Wang Peng laughed, "Business matters have nothing to do with you."

The main reason was that his second uncle and aunt were going to work in the provincial capital, and he didn't have anyone he trusted to arrange jobs at the video arcade, so there was no need to continue the partnership.

He originally wanted to withdraw his shares, but Li Longfei took the initiative to bring it up.

"Mengjiao, take your clothes with you. Your dad has already given me a thousand yuan as compensation," Wang Peng said.

"No." Li Mengjiao forcefully ripped off the tag from the clothes and said, "Put it on."

Seeing her serious expression, Wang Peng stopped being polite with her.

Taking off my coat and putting on a down jacket, I immediately felt warm.

"Great, it'll be warmer instantly," Wang Peng said with a smile. "Please tell Uncle Long for me to thank him."

Li Mengjiao smiled and nodded, finally relieved.

She worried that Wang Peng would dislike her because of the unpleasant experience at the video arcade.

"Brother Peng, is this a record player?" Li Mengjiao pointed to the CD player on the desk.

"The CD player has excellent sound quality." Wang Peng opened the player and put in a CD.

"Do you like listening to Teresa Teng?" He waved the headphones in his hand.

"I love it, I especially love her 'Night-Blooming Jasmine'." Li Mengjiao stepped onto the bed, put on her headphones, and asked, "Brother Peng, what songs do you like?"

"I like the moon to represent my heart." Wang Peng pulled up a chair and sat down.

"The moon represents my heart, that's the song." Li Mengjiao took off one of her earphones and handed it to him.

This song is playing on the CD.

Wang Peng listened carefully and nodded with a smile.

After listening to the song, Wang Peng handed her the earphones again and went to the living room to eat dumplings.

An hour later.

Li Mengjiao took off her headphones, casually turned off the CD player, and saw Wang Peng reading a book in the living room.

"Brother Peng, the final exam results are out, and you're in first place again. I'm in second."

"You're so smart. I've tried so hard, but I still can't compare to you."

"What's most infuriating is that you only scored one point more than me."

Li Mengjiao pouted.

"Second place isn't bad either. The school should let us tie for first place," Wang Peng said. "By the way, how much is the scholarship?"

"First place gets 100 yuan, second place gets 60 yuan." Li Mengjiao shook her head. "Next semester's tuition is still 200 yuan. You have the money, right?"

"No, but paying tuition is no problem," Wang Peng said. "You seem to like listening to music, why don't you take the CD player and listen to it for a few days?"

At this point, Wang Peng pulled out his Walkman from his pocket, "I'll listen to this."

“Sell me your Walkman.” Li Mengjiao took out fifty yuan from her pocket.

"I'm not selling it, it's yours." Wang Peng handed her the Walkman.

I've only had this Walkman for a month and I've already listened to it twice.

With a CD player in hand, the Walkman became useless.

“I bought it.” Li Mengjiao put the money on the table and said, “Brother Peng, my family bought another TV. Come to my house to watch the Spring Festival Gala.”

Wang Peng immediately shook his head and got up to take Li Mengjiao home.

When I got home, I took off my clothes, turned off the lights, and fell asleep while listening to music.

The next day was the first day of the Lunar New Year.

Before dawn, Wang Peng got up and set off firecrackers.

Go to the kitchen to cook dumplings, eat and drink your fill, then go back to sleep. When you wake up, lie in bed and read or listen to music.

On the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, Wang Peng went to visit his second uncle.

My second aunt prepared a table full of delicious food, including plenty of fish and meat, as well as two bottles of fine wine.

"Second Uncle, Aunt, I have good news for you. My brother-in-law's father has arranged jobs for you."

"After the Lantern Festival, you should go to the provincial capital to find Uncle Chen. The salary will be at least four hundred yuan."

Upon hearing this, both the second uncle and his wife were stunned.
