Chapter 231 Beating Niu Qinghui

Garden Road is the longest road in the provincial capital, running east to west, and was once the city center ten years ago.

Shops line both sides of the road, and further to both sides are residential areas. Qinghui Supermarket is located on this street.

A car stopped outside the tractor factory's residential compound, and Wang Peng and Li Mingzhu got out.

“I’ll go ask around to the east, and you go ask around to the west. We’ll meet up here,” Li Mingzhu said softly.

Wang Peng nodded and strode into the family compound, walking up to a few elderly people playing chess.

"Grandpa, are there two old men here, Old Ma and Old Qian? They like to play chess and drink."

Several elderly people accepted Wang Peng's cigarettes, but shook their heads, saying that there was no one with the surname Qian here.

"Young man, don't you know their names? There are too many old people who like to play chess and drink."

"We don't have anyone with the surname Ma here. You can ask at the neighborhood committee."

The elderly people all pointed in the direction of the neighborhood committee.

Wang Peng arrived at the neighborhood committee and quickly confirmed that Lao Qian was not there.

He just wanted to find Old Qian and tell him that ginseng wine was poisonous, capable of blinding people and killing them.

As Wang Peng left the family compound, he wiped the sweat from his forehead and suddenly felt a little foolish.

Why go to so much trouble with a complete stranger, an ordinary customer with whom you've only exchanged a few words?

After a moment, he shook his head. "After all, it's a human life. Anyway, I have nothing else to do, so I'll just treat it as exercise."

Adjusting his mindset, he continued to ask passersby about Lao Qian and Lao Ma, regardless of the outcome, as long as he had a clear conscience.

Knowing that someone is at risk of dying from poisoning, he would feel guilty if he chose to ignore it.

He found out that at the end of Garden Road, further east was Wenming Road. He crossed the road and continued asking around from east to west.

After a long while, I arrived at the tractor factory's residential compound again, stood by the car, and saw Li Mingzhu running all the way.

"Brother, I couldn't find out. What about you?"

"I don't have any either, never mind."

Seeing his wife covered in sweat, he felt a pang of heartache and took out a handkerchief to wipe her sweat.

Just then, an alarm sounded in my ear, and an ambulance from the First People's Hospital passed by.

Li Mingzhu pointed at the ambulance and said urgently, "Brother, let's try our luck and go with it."

Wang Peng opened the car door, started the car, and followed behind the ambulance.

They didn't know where the ambulance was going, nor did they understand why they were following it; they just thought of it as a drive.

I don't know how long we followed, but the ambulance stopped outside a small alley. The vehicle was too wide to fit inside, so the medical staff carried the stretcher out of the ambulance.

At this moment, a group of people emerged from the alley, their faces showing anxiety.

They carried a bed, on which lay a person. Wang Peng recognized Old Ma in the crowd and strode over.

The person on the bed was Old Qian, his eyes were closed and his face was frighteningly pale.

The medical staff began the examination. The doctor checked his pupils, took his pulse, and finally listened to his heartbeat with a stethoscope.

An old woman tearfully recounted, "After he finished playing chess with Lao Ma, he went home, drank a few sips of cheap liquor, and fell asleep in bed."

"More than three hours have passed, and I've been calling him to eat, but I can't wake him up no matter what I do. Doctor, please save him, I beg you to save him..."

The old lady suddenly burst into tears, and the crowd quickly pulled her away to prevent her from delaying the doctors' rescue.

After a long while.

The doctor turned to look at the old woman. "She's gone. The time of death was before 10 a.m. You should report it to the police. I suspect it was related to alcohol."

"Wah..." The old lady cried and wailed.

How could she not be heartbroken after losing her husband who had been with her all her life?

Old Niu recognized Wang Peng and asked eagerly, "Aren't you the owner of Brothers Tobacco and Liquor Store? What brings you here?"

Wang Peng said, "Uncle Niu, I went to the school to have Qinghui Ginseng Wine tested, and it turns out to be industrial alcohol."

"I was worried that Lao Qian would drink that poisoned wine, so I came to Garden Road to find you. I'm so sorry..."

"Oh dear!" Niu Jiefang slapped his thigh. "Lao Qian and I went to the brother's shop yesterday. Boss Wang said there was something wrong with the ginseng wine, but Lao Qian just wouldn't listen..."

A collective gasp rippled through the crowd.

Niu Jiefang said, "Xiao Wang, I didn't expect you to care so much. Don't worry about it, I'll only buy your wine from now on."

After a moment, he added, "Comrades, Brother's tobacco and liquor store is the real conscience store, please patronize it more often."

Wang Peng quickly pulled Li Mingzhu into the car. "Old Niu is brain-dead. How could he advertise in such a situation?"

However, the advertising was very effective; no other merchant would be so attentive to their customers.

"Brother, Lao Qian died before 10 o'clock, but we only found out about the poisoned wine at 11 o'clock."

Li Mingzhu said softly, "He didn't listen to your advice, this has nothing to do with you."

She worried that her lover would feel guilty, since this tragedy had nothing to do with him from beginning to end.

Wang Peng nodded. "The old man who was chatting and laughing with me yesterday is gone today. It's quite poignant."

Li Mingzhu breathed a sigh of relief. Her husband was good in every way, except that he would occasionally create trouble for himself.

She recalled Journey to the West and said with a smile, "Pengpeng, do you still remember the Kingdom of Biqu in Journey to the West?"

Wang Peng glared at her, "You brat, if you had such a good memory in high school, you could have gotten into Tsinghua University too."

“Pengpeng, I’m not going to Tsinghua University. I want to go to the provincial university with you. Wherever you are, I will go.”

She said with a smug look, "If Mengjiao can't do it, then I am your wife."

"Uh!" Wang Peng scratched his head. "Why bring up something that shouldn't be mentioned? Why bring her up at all?"

In the Kingdom of Biqu in Journey to the West, Pigsy complains that Tang Sanzang moved someone else's coffin to his own home to cry, and criticizes Tang Sanzang for always creating trouble for himself.

Even seeing her husband smile, Li Mingzhu was still uneasy, feeling that her husband was holding back a lot of anger and wondering who would be unlucky.
