Chapter 50 Congratulations on your housewarming!

Ping'an Township, Wang Village.

Farmers are busy sowing winter wheat, and are about to finish a year of hard work.

Li Guifen led the ox, while Wang Song held the plow, cultivating their small plot of land.

Suddenly, Wang Song heard someone calling his name. He turned around and saw the village party secretary and the village head.

"Old Wang, stop working and come take a break," the village secretary shouted.

"What's up? Wait until I finish plowing this row," Wang Song said.

A few minutes later, the couple returned to the country path and tied the ox to the jujube tree.

"Old Wang, I have something to tell you." Party Secretary Wang took a document out of his bag. "Take a look."

The village chief chuckled, "Wang Peng bought a small courtyard in the county, and his household registration has been transferred there, you know?"

"What?" Li Guifen stood up abruptly, staring at the village chief. "That unfilial son bought a house in the county? He's now a registered resident with a government-subsidized grain ration?"

The village chief laughed heartily and leisurely lit a cigarette.

“Yesterday morning, the Party Secretary and I went to the county to help him transfer his household registration. This is absolutely true.”

“We went to his house and saw it. It was a yard of half an acre, with three main rooms and two east rooms. He bought it for 10,000 yuan.”

"Dapeng also said that he plans to build a two-story villa and will ask me to build it for him, haha."

By the end, the village chief's eyes were filled with amusement.

That foolish couple actually drove away their family's money tree! Short-sighted fools, they'll regret it later.

"Ten thousand yuan!" Li Guifang's voice cracked. "Is it true? You're not lying to me, are you?"

"What are you talking about? What could we possibly lie to you about?" Secretary Wang's face was very displeased.

"Sister-in-law, Dapeng showed me the contract. It's in black and white, it's ten thousand yuan," the village chief said with a smile.

Li Guifang was struck dumb, collapsing to the ground with a thud, her face as pale as paper.

Ten thousand yuan, ten thousand yuan! That's ten thousand yuan!

How many kilograms of grain can I buy?

How many nice clothes can I buy?

How much large piece of meat can I buy?

"You unfilial son! You damned, heartless wretch!" Li Guifang scrambled to her feet. "Where does he live? I'm going to find him!"

The Party Secretary looked at her hideous features, her greedy mouth, and a flash of disgust in his eyes before turning away and ignoring her.

"What do you want with him?" the village chief sneered. "He studies at No. 1 Middle School. Go ahead and look for him if you want."

Wang Song's face turned as black as the bottom of a pot. He gritted his teeth and glared at the village secretary, "What do you mean? Why are you taking away my homestead?"

“That’s not your homestead, that belongs to Wang Peng,” the Party Secretary said. “Wang Peng’s household registration has been moved away, and he is no longer a person in Wang Village, so of course the village committee has to take away his homestead.”

In rural areas, land plots are allocated to male villagers for them to build houses when they get married.

Wang Song has two sons. Last year, he applied to the village committee for four fen of land in Wang Peng's name as a homestead for Wang Peng to build a house and get married in the future.

"I disagree!" Wang Song sneered. "If that unfilial son leaves, I will give the homestead to Wang Cheng."

“Old Wang, this is unreasonable.” The village secretary said with a stern face, “Wang Cheng’s homestead is your old house, this is a national regulation.”

The village chief laughed and said, "Old Wang, hurry up and sign. This is the village committee's decision. We have to be reasonable, right?"

"No! I absolutely disagree!" Wang Song began to go berserk. "That land is for me, not for Wang Peng."

That plot of land was four-tenths of an acre; it was like a piece of fat meat that had already been eaten, how could he possibly spit it out?

"Wang Song! We're here to inform you, not to discuss things with you," the village secretary said angrily.

The village chief was also angered and sneered, "This is the law. If you don't like it, go to the police station and report us."

The Party Secretary and the Village Chief stormed off, leaving the notice to reclaim the homestead on the ground.

Wang Song collapsed to the ground, having lost not only 10,000 yuan but also the land he was about to live on.

"Master, let's go ask that rebellious son for money!"

"That's ten thousand yuan, we can't let him get it for free."

"Let's go now. If he doesn't pay, we'll take over his house..."

Li Guifen completely lost her temper, shouting and yelling, which attracted the attention of the villagers.

Wang Song stared blankly at his wife, who was throwing a tantrum. She looked more like a ghost than a human.

...

Wang Peng's house, in the courtyard.

"Peng, stop cooking! We can't finish this!" Du Lei shouted into the kitchen.

"Here it is." Wang Peng carried a bowl of egg drop soup out of the kitchen and carefully placed it on the table.

Six dishes and one soup, four meat dishes and two vegetable dishes.

There are four main dishes: roast chicken, beef, braised pork with mustard greens, and steamed sea bass.

Yesterday, Wang Peng received his household registration certificate, and this 340-square-meter courtyard now belongs to him.

To celebrate moving to his new home, he invited his mentors and friends to a drinking party.

Wang Peng poured himself a glass of baijiu (Chinese liquor), and stood up, holding the glass with both hands.

"Teacher Chen, Mengjiao, thank you for tutoring me day and night."

"Brother Lei, Sister Xiao Jing, thank you for taking the time to help my cousin and me deliver takeout."

"Sister Xiaofang, thank you for your unwavering support and for taking such good care of me."

"I'd like to offer you a toast; bottoms up!"

Wang Peng was moved by his own words, raised his glass and drank it all in one gulp, "Cheers, everyone!"

"cheers!"

Everyone stood up. Chen Qingshu and Du Lei drank baijiu (Chinese liquor), while the girls drank Jianlibao (a popular Chinese soft drink). The bottles and cans clinked together.

Foodie Chen Xiaojing started eating, picking up a piece of braised pork with preserved mustard greens and swallowing it in one bite, trying a bite of every dish.

"Um--"

She said in a drawn-out, nasal voice, "Your cooking is so delicious, your future wife is in for a treat."

Ha ha……
