Chapter 70 Talking Business

evening.

Li Guixi clapped his hands and said, "Comrades, it's time to go home after work."

The workers packed up their things, some washing their tools, others chatting with Wang Peng.

"Dapeng, I heard that Wang Xia and Wang Zhen have stopped going to school. Do you know where they are?" Wang Daniu asked.

He was the production team leader of Wangcun and had a good relationship with Wang Song.

"Does their family know anything about them?" Wang Peng asked in return.

Wang Daniu nodded. "I already know. Your parents are coming to see them."

"Heh, why would I need to see them?" Wang Peng couldn't help but sneer.

The fact that Wang Xia and Wang Zhen were delivering food at school could not be kept secret from Wang Song and Li Guifen.

Because there are many students from No. 1 Middle School in Wangcun, someone will always leak the news to them.

Aside from asking his two daughters for money, Wang Peng couldn't think of any other reason why his awful parents would come knocking on his door.

The Wang family was already in chaos, and it looks like things will get even more chaotic after he ran away.

"Dapeng," Wang Daniu said softly, "blood ties can't be severed. Once your parents come to their senses, they'll get along with you better."

"No need for that," Wang Peng said. "Brother Da Niu, go home quickly, everyone is waiting for you."

Wang Daniu nodded, rode his bicycle, and went home with his coworkers.

"Second Uncle, you should go home too," Wang Peng said. "Thank you for your hard work these past two days. I'll look after the house from now on."

“Go back to school to sleep.” Li Guixi waved her hand. “Studying is the most important thing. I’ll keep an eye on the house for you, so don’t worry about it.”

"Second Uncle, go home and rest for a couple of days," Wang Peng said. "You can go back with Sister Fang."

Li Guixi turned to look at Li Fang, then pulled Wang Peng outside the courtyard.

"Xiao Fang went to the provincial capital and seems like a different person."

"He's always sitting on the bench in a daze, and he even secretly giggles. What happened?"

Wang Peng was taken aback. He hadn't expected that his second uncle, despite his rough exterior, was actually quite perceptive and had also noticed that his cousin was acting strangely.

She's acting strangely; it's like she's in love.

“The provincial capital is full of skyscrapers, which may have scared her,” Wang Peng casually replied.

"Bullshit!" Li Guixi glared at him. "Do you think I'm an idiot? Tell me, what exactly happened?"

After thinking it over carefully, Wang Peng confessed the whole story to him.

The story begins with those two strands of hair and continues until Chen Qingshu annuls the engagement.

Li Guixi was dumbfounded, her mouth agape, unable to utter a word.

"This..." He shook his head vigorously, "Your homeroom teacher broke off the engagement all because of Xiaofang?"

"No," Wang Peng immediately shook his head. "It has nothing to do with Sister Fang, so why are you taking the blame?"

"Then why is Xiaofang so happy?" Li Guixi suddenly shook her head. "No, I have to talk to Xiaofang about it."

"What are you talking about?" Wang Peng quickly grabbed him.

Turning his head, he saw Fangjie looking this way, so he pulled his second uncle to the grove outside the village.

"Xiaopeng, I think Xiaofang has feelings for Teacher Chen."

“That won’t do. He’s a high school teacher, and his parents both work for state-owned enterprises. They’ve even bought a new house in the provincial capital.”

"How could someone as outstanding as him possibly be interested in Xiaofang?"

"No, no, I have to talk to Xiaofang and tell her to give up this idea as soon as possible."

Before she could finish speaking, Li Guixi took action.

"Second Uncle," Wang Peng grabbed him again and said, "Do you really look down on your own daughter that much?"

“Chen Qingshu is thirty-one years old, while Fang Jie is only eighteen. I still think he is not good enough for Fang Jie,” he added.

"Nonsense." Li Gui liked hearing this and chuckled.

If his daughter could really marry Chen Qingshu, he would be laughing in his sleep.

"Uncle, it's not even close to being done yet."

"I reckon Fang is just overthinking things."

"Given Chen Qingshu's character, he certainly wouldn't start considering a new relationship right after breaking off the engagement."

Old Chen was his cousin-in-law in his previous life. He was very sentimental and wouldn't fall for someone else so quickly.

"Isn't that unrequited love?" Li Guixi shook her head again. "No, no, unrequited love is the most painful."

"Oh dear, my dear uncle," Wang Peng said with a sigh, then laughed, "My cousin is already eighteen, it's time for her to experience love and romance. You shouldn't worry about that."

"That goes without saying, I'm his biological father, of course I have to worry about him."

"It's not even close to being done yet."

...

The father and son argued for a long time in the woods, and Wang Peng finally persuaded Li Guixi not to interfere in Li Fang's private affairs for the time being.

Back home, Wang Peng rode his bicycle to the county to buy groceries, and the three of them ate in the kitchen of the east room.

There are two rooms in the east wing, one of which has been temporarily converted into a bedroom, where Li Fang stays at night.

After finishing her meal, Li Fang went back to her room to sleep.

There was a shack in the yard, where Li Guixi slept and guarded the building materials.

Wang Peng rode his bicycle to Li Longfei's house.

The Li family had just finished dinner, and Li Mengjiao was getting ready to go to evening self-study.

"There are still more than forty minutes left, why go so early?" Wang Peng laughed.

"I have to go sooner or later," Li Mengjiao said.

She stopped her bicycle and followed Wang Peng back to the main room, where she poured tea for Wang Peng and his father.

Li Longfei started talking.

"I visited six video arcades, and they all played Hong Kong movies; very few showed American blockbusters."

"The tickets are all five cents for four hours. At nine o'clock at night, it's five cents for the whole night, and you can stay until eight o'clock the next morning."

"Three video arcades offer hot water, drinks, and fast food, all for a fee, of course."

"Xiaopeng, I suggest we do the same for our video arcade. What do you think?"

Wang Peng nodded and said, "Hygiene and ventilation need to be done well. There must be a lot of people smoking, right? Almost all of them are men, aren't they?"
